  • Yep. After it idles for about 1 or 2 minutes the idle is in its normal range. It just idles low at first because the engine is running on just compression and there is no heat in the cylinders. After about 2 minutes it builds up heat.

  • I was surprised to hear a chime when you started it up. I thought the Dodge Ram truck still only used a scary buzzer until at least 2000.

  • Of course its going to start in 33 degrees dude thats not even freezing!!! Gets a little cold in northern Idaho... ive had mine start just fine as cold as -20f (thats the coldest ive tried in)

  • I doubt this one would start in -20 F. If I had strong batteries, and if my grid heaters were working 100%, it should be able to without being plugged in. As of right now, I need new batteries and my grid heaters don't work right. So, probably 15F is the coldest temp that it would be able to get going, without having to plug it in.

  • Let me correct myself. I think with strong batteries and working grid heaters, the 12valve would probably start down to about -5F without having to be plugged in. If the temperature goes any lower, the batteries and the starter probably would be able to spin the engine over, and if they could, it wouldn't be fast enough. It would most likely need to be plugged in below -10F.

  • the reason it sounds so different (besides the low idle)..is this truck has the p7100 injection pump and the pump is basicly anohter engine,it has its own cam,and piston,and rods like a real engine...so basicly theres a little engine rattling like your big engine while its supplying fuel....hahahah i think its cool to think of it as your injector pump is like a motor. thats why it rattles differently than most cummins like the 89-93...nice truck man

  • Thanks man. Yea, there is so much you can do with that fuel pump performance wise. It is pretty cool.

  • Who told you the p pump has rods like a real engine? They have a roller tappet that rides on the cam lobe directly and is connected to the plunger assembly. No connecting rods, sorry.

  • isnt it that they have cams and plungers... thats the common system but it may be different in this case i guess....

  • your truck has a surreal sound brockmirabella! different from any cummins ive heard, probubly because the idle is so low. but still, awesome truck nonetheless! keep up the good work!

  • hey, does ur truck die when u have the a/c on like at a stop light or when ur backing up and let off on the gas real quick? my dad has the same truck, and it idles low like that, i was just wondering if u had the same problem.

  • Not when idling at a stop light. It will stall if you give it a lot of throttle and suddenly let off before the turbo has a chance to kick in. The reason is that the cylinders have too much fuel coming in and not enough air to burn the fuel. By adjusting the idle to around 850, which is where the recommended idle for that motor is, you should fix that problem. Tell your dad, to idle it to around 700 while in drive with the A/C on. about 900 in park with the A/C on.

  • @brockmirabella can you explain more why it dies when you let off the throttle quickly? this happened to me the other day but i thought when theres not enough air it makes black smoke? ive never heard of it making the engine cut off

  • the fuel shutoff solenoid goes bad because of the rubber around the plunger goes bad use a little pb blaster or wd40 if that doesnt work i just used a pto cable, it was kinda nice cause i could pull the cable out, shut the truck off and lock it while it was still running

  • Yea, it cost me 500 dollars to have it replaced. The solenoid itself was like 250 and I also had new transmission gaskets installed, and the idle adjusted. The total came to 500. The lift pump repair was also 500, it was around 300 for the pump and about 150 for labor.

  • Your idle is still too low. Should be closer to 750-850rpms.

    Get two 10mm wrenches and do it yourself. Piece of cake.

  • How exactly do you adjust the idle? I have never attempted it before.

  • sound like it is not going to start up and that is bad for it to be 33°f i got a tractor that can start at the temperature and it hard but it dos not sound like it going to die on me
