When i started work, long ago,the humour was like this-saucy banter, flirting, nicknaming the supervisor Adolf etc,it created light relief from boring routine. Now,nearing retirement, our place has all the warmth of a cemetary in Bognor Regis, fear of saying anything even remotely un p.c has made the atmosphere deeply unfriendly and suspicious. We act like robots, not humans, political correctness has gone too far! So glad to watch these funny films like On The Buses.
for those who loved this series, like me, ALL 74 episodes are out there to download in one easy to get site online.I got the entire series now(including the 3 movies) just the other day and only took 3 hours."At's a bit of all right and cracky eh".. LOL
Ya know, it was either a strange time in Britain OR was arranged this way for the series.Cause i'm always amazed at the CUTE english birds who seemed to go for and/or chased after the men in the series who ALWAYS seemed to be quite unattractive to downright UGLY .I assumed that it might be that their choices must have been slim pickens cause i always thought WHAT a waste of VERY cute english birds who seemed to actually be satisfied with the men they "bagged".LOL
@MyAdam91 US bomber pilots in WWII took the wire stiffiner out of their hats ( same type that Stan and Jack wore) for the earphones that went over the caps. that is why their caps looked like Jack's cap( he took the stiffner out)
An old mate of mine got drunk once and did a Blakey at all the drivers at Wood Green bus garage. I just remember the drivers starting at him rather than reacting like Butler.
Excellent stuff, never get bored with this! Not many people realise that Stephen Lewis (Blakey) is actually 20 years younger than Reg Varney (Butler) in real life. He was made to look a lot older in this.
This was in the same tradition as Benny Hill and the Carry on movies. All 3 'Buses' movies were box office hits, and survive as regular and popular TV films. Even now, in some places, bus inspectors are known as 'Blakey's'. 'Buses' was good, clean un-PC humour - you know, the kind that made people LAUGH!!!!
Poor man. Poor, poor man. I think a lot of comedians and comedy actors (or at least actors most noted for comic roles) have a dark side - Tony Hancock, Peter Sellers, Spike Milligan...
Good point. It was a very different world back then. It's programmes like this that remind us of how thing used to be before the advent of political correctness.
its really funny seeing Borehamwood in the 70's!! The tower block and flats shown at the beginning are just behind Albert Square. The Flats featured regularly in the background of Grange Hill for many years.
Political Correctness is evil, LONG LIVE GOOD OLD FASHOND COMADY

Agreed. Times were different. Almost like another planet.
Shame on those that allowed it to happen.
