No, it doesn't take 3 minutes to kill one NPC. If you look at the bottom of the battle screen you see a purple bar. The objective is to fill up that bar by overkilling enemies. You can clearly see he had it almost full even before a special attack. He could have just stopped there and skip all that animation but Single-Player gaming isn't about speed efficiency, it's about enjoyment.

no but he's just trying to show off the specials he killed the lizard thing with like 5 hits and if you keep hitting the enemy after its energy goes down then you get "sin" which leads in getting good items
