  • You know, I haven't finished watching the movie yet, and even though it is very good until know, I can't stop to think that while this movie earned a Best Foreigh Language Oscar nomination, masterpieces such as Devdas did not. This will certainly sound close-minded, but it makes me beleive that the film was considered do to it's focus in British aspects.

  • @KissKara thats because devdas was a stupid movie that had already been made three times and only focused on a love story, whereas this movie was much bigger than that. Lagaan captured different emotions of human beings very well whereas Devdas did not.

  • @lalitkindia88 Devdas main theme may focus on love, but it is not just some stupid love story. It deals with many topics such as prejudice, alcholism loneliness... it is not stupid at all. In fact, despite being nollywood films, Devdas and Laagan are very, very different and cannot be compared in that way.

  • @KissKara ...and i meant to type Bollywood, not nollywood.

  • @KissKara hmmm, interesting point you make. but you are neglecting the fact that I tried to answer your question of why this movie made it to the nominations whereas devdas didn't. Devdas was just a good love story... but it was very monotonic, the mood of the film never changes. lagaan on the other hand had good variations of mood. at some points it was light yet at some very intense.

  • @KissKara also, lagaan was a complete entertainer which had its funny moments and sad moments. it had love, betrayal, and it was above all, it was inspiring. victory of the underdog.

as per why I called Devdas stupid is because I wasn't fascinated by it and thought it was wayyyyy over the top (aishwarya rai's run in the end for example). Dilip Kumar's devdas was much more believable and subtle.

  • @lalitkindia88 Well, I cannot argue with you about that. After all it's our personal opinion. I really like Devdas and I think that it is visually spectacular. I also found Shahrukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai and Madhuri Dixit's respective roles to be sublime.

  • @lalitkindia88 Also, I don't think it is fair to say that Devdas is a "stupid movie that had already been made three times". That has nothing to do with the quiality of a movie, and a remake can be just as good, or even better, than the original movie. True Grit is a perfect example.

  • amir done gud role in this player

  • Madarchod british, every brit should be gassed including women n children, bastards

  • @powermad81 that's truly a distrubing thought. thinking like that led to the holocaust, and God knows that's the last thing this world needs. by suggesting that this should happen to a certain group of people, you are creating the image that you yourself are the true monster.

  • ...and the BNP want us to get out of Britain. Hell Mofo No.
