I heard yesterday that another one of our brothers has been brought home to the Mansions of the Lord. Richard Winters of Easy Co, 506th Parachute Infantry passed recently. A truly amazing and humble hero who led the heroes of the Band of Brothers. May God Bless his family and his men. RIP Sir.

I would like to see Americans raise their children with respect for our leaders (whether we like them or not). When I hear this beautiful hymn of sorrow and hope, I recall going through the World War I National Monument in Kansas City, Missouri. At the monument, there is huge mural carved in stone showing a resolve to fight oppression, the sorrows and sacrifice it brings, and the healing and hope for the future those who have endured the horrors of war strive for. He loved the Army, he loved Germany. He does not ever regret one minute of his service and he'd do it all over again if he could. My grandfather was a US Navy captain during WWII, and my grandmother a US Army 1st sgt. I love our veterans!!

Bob, Yes, Major Winter's passing has been all over the net. Facebook had HUNDREDS of condolence messages about his death.
At a time when America could use more men like Dick Winters, we're losing so many of them.
From all accounts of those with whom he served, he was a real man and an outstanding leader.

When I hear this beautiful hymn of sorrow and hope, I recall going through the World War I National Monument in Kansas City, Missouri. At the monument, there is huge mural carved in stone showing a resolve to fight oppression, the sorrows and sacrifice it brings, and the healing and hope for the future those who have endured the horrors of war strive for. @chalicechiq sorry Iv been busy , yes i am a Vet , I retired after 21 years in the US ARMY , 1966 to 1987 . and when I look at the men and woman serving today it give me hope for the future of our country , from a old war horse to all the young war horses out there , Thank You .

@truck87654321 :hugs you: My fiance also served in the Army, he was a combat engineer, and he served during the Cold War - 3 years in Germany, just 30 kilometers out from the Czech border. He loved the Army, he loved Germany. He does not ever regret one minute of his service and he'd do it all over again if he could. My grandfather was a US Navy captain during WWII, and my grandmother a US Army 1st sgt. I love our veterans!!

@chalicechiq Well I thank you for the hug I served at a time when Military men and woman didnt get a hug or a thank you , shake the hand of your soon to be husband and tell him I said thank , I served a little time in Germany too I was in the 503rd combat aviation , we use to patrol the fulda gap . I had a great time in Germany myself , Munich and octoberfest just one of many memories , and despite what written here I liked the German people very much . my father was a ww2 vet also takecare

Just to inject some facts into the discussion, as a naval officer and seafarer I have been to something like 70 countries around the world, and I currently live in East Asia, which has been home for 13 years. Maybe you all should remember that it was European foreign policy that gave us 2 world wars and the genius ideas of Fascism, Nazism and Communism. Do you call standing idle while Yugoslavia went to pieces a foreign policy? You guys cant even handle stuff in your own back yard.

Yes, I weep nearly every time I hear this wonderful music. It represents the sacrifices made for what we may soon lose here. God willing, we will fight back and keep what those who died for what we have. As Captain Miller whispered to Pvt. Ryan, we, too, must "earn this."

I viewed Ronald Reagan's funeral again last night on YouTube in order to remember him in lieu of these current dire times. It's nearly impossible not to cry as "The Mansions of the Lord" played. God Bless our troops, our vets, MIAs & POWs, Ronald Reagan, and AMERICA! This is a song that can make a grown man cry... it's truly beautiful.

I served my country in the Vietnam War. 40 years later, and I still walk with a heavy heart for all those who never made it home to their families. My heart may be broken, but my spirit is not. May the memories of the fallen be remembered and cherished. We are truely fortunate to have such brave men who are willing to give it all for a cause and country that they believed in. One can only hope for the honor and respect that these men have no doubt won. Whatever your political ideals, one cannot have pride and gratitude for these men. as1... since you don't know, ponder this. i've never heard a military person say he was serving his countrys politicians, but rather was serving his country. if you think the military's the problem ask yourself how long you'll even be able to ponder and think without them. take away the military and within days i believe there's someone in the world who will take away almost every right you take for granted. militarys don't create war. but they do serve to keep you free.

I can hate the war, but I could never hate the soldier. A long slow salute to ALL men & women & their families who wait to see if their loved ones are going to return alive. My son gave 12 years of his life to the U.S. Army. He did not return to me alive. I am not bitter. I am a proud American who honors all our soldiers.
