harry was a wonderful man he was always wanting to help people he was going to come to my dads work and play for the children but his flight was canceled and he called my dad personally to apologize and sent someone else and promised to come another time but he passed away a few months later my dad just passed away and in lieu of flowers we asked people to donate to long island cares harry chapin food bank
It's great to see that he's still part of the family. He met Harry and his brothers when they were in a church boy's choir and having a bass who can also sing counter-tenor the way he did on Taxi gave a wider vocal range to some of Harry's best songs...even if it was just a note Harry couldn't reach like in 30, 000 Pounds of Bananas.
I saw Harry and John several times, once was at Delaware Valley College in Doylestown PA. It seems that John's mother lived close by and Harry made it a point to let John's mom watch him strum. Cool of Harry and I'm sure touching to John.
Hey John it was great to find your Last Stand Video..what a great song. I sent you "Living In This Song" This song is dedicated to everyone who was changed by the life and music of Harry Chapin..."Keep The Change"
lol i was just talking to him on the phone. he was known as the horniest drummer in rock and roll. and i beilieve harry wrote a song for him with that name. we are old friends.
You can still see Big John, Steve Chapin, Howie Fields (drummer), Tom Chapin and selected offspring every now and then when they have tribute to Harry Chapin concerts. They are posted on Tom Chapin's website. I saw on in Cleveland a few years back. It was the next best thing.
Love John!!!
