  • all of them sing very well in this video. Love it.

  • why does Scott tell Dane to throw the harp away?

  • All their voices are just perfect, the music moves me. Oh, love the whole damned thing! Probably my favorite video of theirs.

  • I need to see them when they come to iowa

  • Ridiculously good.

  • That song rocks!

  • I'm bothered by someone not liking them. Makes me worry about the validity of their soul, or if they had a large piece of concrete dropped on their head.

  • These guys are awesome but I still cant figure out the Asian guy. I think he really wants to help out in the singing dept. but it probably just doesnt work. It makes it interesting though.

  • guh, love.

  • I love the style of the Avett Brothers .. His songs are very good!

  • why is everyone so obviously bothered by someone not liking the same music as they do? it doesn't matter at all honestly. even if no one else on earth liked the avett brothers i would still love them just as much.

  • @dharpify1: we're not bothered by someone disliking TAB, it's the fact he's trolling and insists on making rude and pointless comments.

  • @Lane1518 If this is gay...I don't wanna be straight!

  • Perfection.

  • Everything they do is beautiful! I have yet to find an Avett Brothers song that I don't love

  • lane1518s comment does not matter as he simply does not understand the concept of music and should keep watching Xfactor with all the other sheep numbhead shitbrain excuses for human beings like all the panel that sits on that show together with the inventor of that show that got handed his job by his father and his only claim to fame being sineeta!!! keep real honest music alive!!! keep the parasites out! they are not producers, they are shitbags of the highest order

  • Hey everyone we shouldn't watch this video because @lane1518 thinks it's gay!

just go to sleep, go to sleep my man.

  • Here's an idea @Lane1518: don't watch it!

  • @Lane1518 so is charging $5 for handjobs behind the 7-11, but that doesn't seem to bother you.

  • @Lane1518 - this is actually the opposite of gay. Its like having sex with Miranda Kerr, as far from gay as one can be.

  • luv u bob

  • This is the Biz!

  • At 0:48 I thought Scott was getting a text.

  • @DrewRyalsByrnes hahahahaha! so true

  • Awesome..love the Avett Brothers & David Childers... Will be playing with David Childers this coming Dec 30th ..can't wait !

  • Do you remember what we talked about?

  • "throw that harp away.." noo, sign it and give it to me. thanks.

  • Never.

  • This never fucking gets old.

  • my heart just skipped a beat <3

  • throw that harp away dane,...cause we just killed it,.. ;) yeah scott :)

  • Wow, just saw that there are 3 dislikes to this video. Just cannot understand how someone could dislike such beauty and perfection? TAB, I've been a avid fan for 6 years now. This is absolutely beautiful. Great work on the harmonica Scott!

  • It's not possible for me to like a song anymore than I like this one.

  • This is perfect, it just rolls

  • The banjo gets me so wet.

  • Sang this in Greensboro last night -- highlight of the show

  • New favorite song

  • 9 shades of awesome

  • Oh my god,, how can I express how much I am loving this!

  • Oh my god, Can how can I express how much I am loving this!

  • Those are 4 happy pieces of wood =)

  • Hail J. Kwon! This cover is perfect. Love Childers, but this brings it to another level

  • Love the little smile on Seths face when they sing "Although some say he's a little bit too reserved"

  • What does Scott say there at the end? And was that planned? It sounds like "throw that mark away Dave".

  • @mmp1439 Can't say whether it was planned or not, but I can tell you that Scott says, "Throw that harp away, Dane." As in that harmonica.

  • @mmp1439 He said, "Throw that harp away, Dane." That is their tour manager and I guess the harmonica didn't sound good enough to Scott.

  • @Giarc26 He might've been talking about another one that he tried earlier but decided this one was better.

  • @Bwadify Ahh, good point.

  • Absolutely stunning video and cover of a great song. Comes close, very close, to the boys' performances of this song at Red Rocks, CO and Salt Lake City, UT this July.

  • This may be my favorite Avett's song! I think crackerfarm has the best job ever

  • Please, please, please record this so I can buy it!

  • Props to Childers for writing a beautiful song. Cheers to the Brothers for making life-changing music. Can't wait for a new album! Throw us some more teasers!

  • Awesome. What's the name of the man playing the contrabass?? I love his voice!!

  • @Claire198792 Bob Crawford

  • @Claire198792

Bob has his own band on the side. He tours and writes.Look for some of his youtube vid solos.

  • I gotta go see these guys. This is a great tune & they have some great harmony going on.

  • i love when bob sings

  • summer reading essay? Nah...

    i choose crackerfarm

  • 49,000 of the plays are definitely from me :|

  • I just had an eargasm

  • Beautiful.

  • 1 person was glad they weren't in Oakland last week.

  • 1 dislike? WTF!!

  • 1 person would make good to put their tail between their legs if they came to NC

  • The Avetts cover a song like nobody else! Great job, as always, guys, and great job Crackerfarm! Keep those videos coming, Mike!

  • <3

  • how can anyone dislike this?

  • I can't quit listening to this! Wish this & "For Today" were on a record so I could listen to it in my car! Wonderful harmony.

  • BOB!!! Seriously, is there any harmony these gents can't make work?

  • Well yeehaw that just made my day!

  • 0:00 - 0:03 what do ya'll think Seth and Bob were talkin about? "you start it, no seth you start it, ok bob here we go!" ???

  • next time you need to throw a harp away let me know, ill take it!

  • they opened with this at the show i went to.... one of the best ones they sang that night.

  • i would jizz my pants if the avetts putt out a cover album with all the covers they do on here plus some others. i would double jizz my pants if they would put out their own new album. i don't mean to rush them or anything but i just can't get enough of these guys. the music is so good, the voices so simple, and the lyrics so sincere. they're fantastic. plain and simple

  • @TylerCampbell2 Although I don't agree with your language I do agree that that might would be the greatest thing ever if they put out an album of a lot of the covers they do. That would be a long time from now though, because they are very very busy. When they are not touring they are in Asheville working on their new album. Then once that is released I am sure they will begin working on their next album. I really hope their new album comes out soon though. This waiting is killing me.

  • Bahahahaha I LOVE Jacob at the end... WOW, dude, hand off the crotch when the camera's rollin'.

  • What a terrific song! Childers' original takes are all good, but this Avett version is somehow better. Hard to explain why. My family from Florida to Hawaii all agree!

  • Man these guys are great. I'dd like a louder cello tho

  • I just cannot get over how perfect this is....

  • Everything was beautiful and nothing hurt.

  • What a treat to see Bob get down! Yeeeeah! :)

  • They played this last night at Shepherds Bush... Amazing!!

  • Yay Bob!

  • This made my Crackerfarm Hall of Fame upon first listen. Thanks for this fellas.

  • I cant stop watching this! I've gotten nothing accomplished for days because all I do is watch crackerfarm videos.

  • Love, love, love it!!!

  • Now I want another video! It's been a couple weeks, I'm getting Avett-hungry.

  • I love the cello on this!

  • Gastonia!!

  • There so needs to be a crackerfarm DVD.

  • Anyone have the lyrics to this?

  • @shrxfn68

It was a New Year's Day at the seaside bar; there was a special on PBR.

The ocean roared outside the door.

    No one but us and some hardcore drinkers, lost in the stormy day;

How blue were the blue of your eyes against the sky of gray?

    Chorus:

Do you remember what we talked about?

    I just remember your face;

The prettiest thing that I had ever seen.

  • @SL04 Ty so much:)

  • @shrxfn68 Well it must've been a wrong turn we took in Cedar Falls, or maybe Kansas City, I don't know. We just kept on rollin', it was too late to turn around; We ran out of road in Arizona. Repeat Chorus Well you left me in that deep hole (depot?) in Gastonia with your mother, and what you still had left of self-respect. Ah at least you tried to tell me, but that's when I was drinkin', and I could not find the words to win you back. Repeat chorus.
  • @shrxfn68

Well you changed your mind about me; I sure understand.

Years of miles are not what you deserved.

I heard that you got married, and he's a decent man,

although some say he's a little bit too reserved.

    Repeat chorus.

  • You lucky ducks in Houston. Grrrrrrr. I wish they would have done this at Jazzfest. Hope they come next year again. I would love to hear this live!

  • Is it pronounced Childers? Or is it Childers?

  • Whatever it is that these guys do makes my ears very happy. I'm glad they are making a living out of music.

  • Thank you so much for your music! You bring hope, joy and positive feelings with every song.

  • Man I wish they had this on an album along with "For Today"

  • @youTOOL1976 "For Today" is a Jessica Lea Mayfeild remake,, she tours witht them sometimes,,, shes pretty awesome too

  • David Childers will be performing at the Evening Muse on 6/15/11. It's a "Storytellers" kind of night called Off the Record mixing music and on-stage interviews. He'll be asked about The Avetts covering his song in addition to acoustic performances.

  • you can get david's version here at davidchilders(dot)com.

and be sure to check out the video of him singing it. there's a link to it in the right margin usually. tremendous song.

  • Does anyone know where I can get David's version of this track? I have the "burning in hell" album, but I don't think it's on that one. Love that the Avetts are spreading David's music around

  • @rlove3 The original by David is on the CD: Room #23 by David Childers and the Modern Don Juans. You can buy it at running-timedotcom

  • Ahhh. The haircuts. The harmonies. The musicianship.

    Couldn't be more perfect.

  • reminds me of early Eagles

  • Scott looks so cool

  • This is fantastic.......Keep on playing........Thumbs up !!!

  • My GOD I love Crackerfarm videos!!! oh and not to mention The Avett Brothers!!!

  • Great cover!

  • gotta love these guys for taking the time to make these videos!

  • I meant what did Scott say to Dane?

    "Throw that harp away, Dane"??

  • @westbylc yes thats thats what he said

  • what did Scott say to Jacom @ the end??

  • Dying of aurally-induced joy is definitely possible.

  • I wanna hear Joe sing.

  • @iloveartimus It would be awesome to hear a solo in Korean!

  • crackerfarm feeds my soul

  • nothing short of FANTASTIC..........as usual of course. Not only do these guys contiune to produce the best possible music to listen to, play, or whatever, you can be assured of finding other great artists through their musical aquantences.

  • avett brothers never fail!

  • Amazing

  • Song written by one of my faves, DAVID CHILDERS! Seek him out...he is the real deal!

  • seriously cracker farm is the shit

does anyone know where one could find the chords to this song?

  • @hayser20 your ears

  • @hayser20 man it's the avett brothers they only use like 4

  • woo gastonia!

  • I've never disliked a crackerfarm video... and this is why.

  • Crackerfarm has done it again.

  • The line is I know you tried to tell me but that's when I was a drinking and I can't find the words to win you back, good version of this classic.

  • wow. that is the first time i hear the bassist sing. he is not bad at all!

  • They performed this @ the Houston show. It was so beautiful!!! I can't wait to see them in red rocks!!!

  • Does anybody know the lyrics to the 3rd verse? Seths verse. I can't hear the second line.

  • @humdinger77 here's what i could get from that verse:

well you left me in that depot

    in gastonia with your mother

what you still had left of self-respect

ah ??? you tried to tell me but that's when i was drinking

and i could not find the words to win you back

  • @emurtagh1011

I hear "At least you tired to tell me, but thats when I was drinking.. I will shoot David an email to get the full lyric.

  • @kmgreensman ooh, you're probably right! thanks!

  • @emurtagh1011 Thanks! plain as day now haha.

  • @emurtagh1011 Here it is from the songwriter...

You left me in that deep hole

    in Gastonia with your mother

and what I still had left of self-respect.

    At least you tried to tell me;

    but that's when I was drinking;

and I could not find the words

    to win you back.

  • @kmgreensman awesome! thanks for researching that! i can't get enough of this video :)

  • 100% agreed on the Bob singing more option!! **LOVE** these guys, and love this folkier-style thang!! See y'all in Indy soon!

  • 100% agreed on the Bob singing more option!!

  • They played this just tonight in Columbus! AWESOME CONCERT, THEY KILLED IT AS USUAL!

  • lol @ Jacob :)

  • David Childers is an NC treasure. I been showing off DC's songs for years, I hope the Avetts bring him some much deserved attention.

  • Love hearing Bob sing a tune. If you haven’t seen the Bruce Springsteen cover they did, it’s definitely worth a listen. Bob gets down with the get down on that one! Keep em common’ fellas, you inspire me to be a more creative songwriter. Thank you for that!

  • Loved this song before. Love it now. Can't go wrong.

  • Nothing but perfect!

  • I agree with Curtis - glad to see other enjoying David Childers' music.

  • David Childers is one of the best songwriters in America!!! I am glad that people are hearing him! He also kicks ass singing it!! Go get them David!!!

    Curtis

  • @kmgreensman I totally agree with you - and everyone who wants to know more about David Childers and his music should check the overmountainmen homepage (or have a look at my playlists ;-)
