  • nate savage , sounds like name sandwich

  • What does he mean by picking the right chords for the key of E - can someone send me a list of each key and their chords (A,b,c...) or explain it to me?

  • options for my major chords? i didnt know there were certain chords that were only allowed to be played in the key of E? cn someone help me?

  • @skaterunknown4ever basically you can only play the notes in the scale of E major if you are playing in that key and the same for all other keys so you can only play the chords that are notes in the scale.

  • @MrLaserprint ah thanks, so if it's in the key of E minor it's all the notes from the minor scale? does that work for the pentatonic too?

  • @skaterunknown4ever yes it does work, it starts to get complicated when you bring modes into the equation but this is pretty easy really ;)

  • theres a lot of common chord progression patterns that u can use in any key. and certain ones create certain types of feel

  • fuck u asshole!

  • great help :) im writing a song for my girlfriend now :)

  • @iJordyGaming howd it go lol ?

  • It was kinda like "Little By Little" by Oasis

  • its a PRS............

  • so thats how you write songs... btw your song sounded good :O

  • the F# and Bb are pink floyds breathe two frets higher, exept the F# would have to be F#m

  • that chorus sounded a lot like a song from Nickelback

  • okk...

  • Oh my God I hate you. I want to learn how to write a song not hear about things I have no idea of. You aren't teaching anything to anyone except for showing them how not to teach.

  • @doneasunder i think this was written in their mind as a guide to people who know the chords already. like i know whats he has said because i've been taking lessons for awhile. but song writing is a personal thing so just experiment and you'll gradually learn and get better

  • the only think that impressed me in this video is his guitar, because i only got one cheap fish guitar

  • random my asss

  • This didn't help at all.

  • For "not" knowing how to write a song at youre pretty good...

  • mind if i steel those chords

  • good basic lesson..but he look like a drunken master

  • hmmmm that was a nice video

  • and Bb diminished

    ;)

  • fuck that was just knocking on heavens doors..

  • cool

  • thanks great video

  • That actually turned out so cool.

  • dude ur awesome i so wanna write a song about my messed up life i just need the chord ideas and everything

  • like the PRS Guitar *thumbs up*

  • damn.. this whole time i thought it was a guessing game

  • @andersentaurean Lmao same here

  • Great! With this indispensable information I am now Beethoven.

  • Hey guys i ve recently made a song on guitar check it out

  • i like the vid but i believe the way to make a song is to be inspired by an idea and from that idea you express yourself and make lyrics and sounds on ur instruments from ur mind and heart to make a song

  • wtf im nt a song writer at all???? how reassuring on a video like this:) lol good vid tho

  • Thanks this actually helped me a lot :)

  • Instead of saying you put that together in a random way, you should probably mention Diatonic Chords to the people that don't know...

  • your using a green screen

  • hmm, pretty good, ive got that part down but now im tryin to learn how to improvise on progressions and make solos and stuff.

    Any advice would be loved

  • @spartacus1125 learn scales man,

  • Paul Reed Smith Guitars <3

  • to hear one of my original songs go to MY CAT SONG "TOMBOY"

  • HEY knoking on the heveans door arent from the guns n roses thats from bob dylan .dylans version is much better then guns n roses version

  • seriously, i found this was the most stupid lesson ever.

i mean, there is just no "right way" to write music. it is something that can come out in many forms. And other thing is: the guy on the video just went and randomed something out there. I DO agree that picking chords from the key scale is something that u should keep in mind but thats just not the way.

    constructive critic, i believe.

  • @wtfwasthatt Kind of confused here... first you state that that was the "most stupid lesson ever" and then go on to say there is no "right way" to write music. Then you said picking chords in the key scale is something you should keep in mind but yet it's "just not the way". Contradicting yourself a little? If you were to pick chords not in the key scale you generally wouldn't have a key to begin with thus meaning you are not "not" picking a chords in the key.

  • @MitchellColvinTpt what i did mean was that you dont need to attach yourself to the main scale, even if thats the most used way. for an instance we have the chinese and indian folk music, wich have 9 notes instead of the main 7 we know. Muisc is infinte and dont have a standard form. music is a way to express your feelings and that will never be the same in 2 diferent persons. =)

  • @wtfwasthatt Of course you don't have to have to pick chords in the main scale every time. There are many different modes that you can choose from as well as modulating from key to key and having secondary dominants and adding more color by adding 7th, 9ths, 11ths, and so on... But the reality is that this video is targeted towards beginners. And you have to understand the basics before you start exploring the infinite possiblities in theory, and that's what this video does.

  • awsome thanks man i needed help to finish my song

  • :) nice job my friend

  • lol pause right at :47

  • doing it this way is an absolutely fantastic way to limit yourself. :D don't listen to this duche bag. :) play what you want to play. listen to my songs. i didn't do that.

  • Cool video. Thanx for this, i really needed it.............

  • that wasn't a song it was a progression

  • Guns n roses lol I hear the three chord similarity

Anyways this is a nice little video

  • that pink floyd sound that was Wish You Were Here :p

  • thats "the dude" song

  • Have a Cigar?

  • @AoSSaint Rocky Patel!

  • can someone tell me the chords for A major scale?

  • @mycahman A maj, D maj, E maj, bmin, c#min, f#min

  • u have good sounding guitar, nice

  • nicee XD

  • he kinda looks like matt from blink :-?

  • @upon2walk you mean mark

  • @AndrewJamesification yeah sorry my bad :D

  • Duude, whatta mistaka to maka!! the piece has to start with the route chord - in this case Emaj! not compulsory but it as to start or end with Emaj to make it easy to tell whick key it's in ;)

  • @musician2themax i thought it just had to end on the route chord

  • "I feel like pink floyd" =L

  • Breathe. Breathe in the air. haha 1:53

  • yea me tooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • cool dude!

  • help me to set up my ampli :D

  • you could see that he was looking at someone who was probably telling him what to say

    nice vid

  • Very helpful lesson!

  • Vote up if you LOL'd at this when he said "I don't know what i'm doing at all"..

  • if you dont know how to do it then dont do it, asshole, and dont be half ginger like to -.-

  • It helps a lot when you know which chords to combine in which key, but mostly I just kinda mess around with random chords on random places on the neck and try to find a good combination.

  • i cant play no barcords :(

  • 2:17 higher by creed !!!!

  • where is your guitar cable? are you really playing? lol

  • How to know that for Emaj that D A B majors are the best choices? Is it from the the scale?

  • Video title says how to write a song and in the video he says his not a song writer ha!

  • yeah totally guns n roses (2:35)

  • sounds like wish you were here, except different key

  • 3:08 POP

  • fail green screen

  • big mistake saying you aren't a song writer at all right at the beginning of the video. the video title is "how to write a song on guitar" one would think the one teaching was a song writer. lol

  • @RockRightful he said it to show that anyone can write a song, so we dont freak out and think its so hard

  • @RockRightful yep stopped watching after that

  • @RockRightful what hes trying to say is how easy it is to write a song on the guitar and you don't have to be a song writer

  • @RockRightful

He was just saying a hypothetical situation..

  • @RockRightful I think you interpretted it wrong. He is not a professional song writer, but perhaps a professional guitarist. You don't have to be a song writer to write a song... if that makes any sense lol. He used a ii-V progression for the verse and a I-V-IV progression for the chorus. Very common progressions.

  • @RockRightful dude he's just trying to emagin himself as if he was you and didnt know what to do

  • Can you tell me what settings you are using on your amp please? thanks mate

  • @AJT1907

Just a Line 6 Pocket POD and a TC Electronic Nova System
