Some of the nicest dreads I've ever seen on Youtube. I hope that I can have dreads really close to yours one day. What are your methods when it comes to maintenance? And how did you get em started? Did you back-comb, or did you just let your hair do its thing?

One of the few things I regret was having to take my dreads out, as it was the only time in my life I was happy with my hair...unfortunately the initial seperations weren't done properly and I was given some bad advice on how to maintain them, so my hair ended up turning into one big dread (which looked totally scank!). Am planning to re-dread later this year, after I've done as much research as possible. x
i love dreads and regret cutting mine. it was for a grate job in a grate position. just to get laid off... i am growing my hair back and WILL not cut them off again.
btw i am white. and i dont believe in ANY kind of substance abuse. i dont smoke drink or even take prescription drugs (which btw are the worst kind).

@wwemikoy123 Yep you can. For showering if you dont want them wet every time its better to put em up. But yes you definitely have to wash em (greasy dreads are not good). I wash mine once a week. And you can swim with them too, though its better not to when you just had em put. Unless its (clean) sea water, dreads like salt!

I agree with ryangaston88 no matter what method you use its a long commitment. Im growing my hair out right now, Six months in and just growing my hair out is hard by its self. Even harder when everybody you know is telling you to cut you hair. Me personally I am going use the method that is going to make my dreads look as nice and clean as possible.

I agree with ryangaston88 no matter what method you use its a long commitment. Im growing my hair out right now, Six months in and just growing my hair out is hard by its self. Even harder when everybody you know is telling you to cut you hair. Me personally I am going use the method that is going to make my dreads look as nice and clean as possible.

Dont believe ANY of the stories that try and scare you away from wax. DreadHeadHQ wax is awesome... i never had any problems with it.
just dont use too much of it... thats when it causes problems.

@haymaker510 true mate i had that i did my dreads then got it re done 3 months later.....grew it for 5 to 6 months and every cunt sayin cut it man the ends a re splitting its gay it looks messy which it did cos of lack of maintenence i jus let itself take care......then tho of chopping it......thank god i didn't i got the re done and looked up on maintenance and now i know y mine was lookin crap was usin conditioner never rolled it or loose hair jus let it groww....

How were they created? Did you do them yourself? And what did you do to maintain them that good looking? I'm thinking about getting dreadlocks instead of just cutting my long hair. But I think it's important to look healthy and the dreadlocks needs to be neat.

wow ! dreads have come along way . First they were grown naturally , to chant down social acceptance , mean something to the heart . Now they are they the opposite of that : Vanity . Spiritual to some , trendy to others dreadlocks from a box . Whats next republicans w/dreads . I heard paris hilton is growing dreads , too .Don't remember bob marley for what he looked like , but what he lived like , natural .

fuck your idea of 'dreads in a box'. No dreadlocks are instant.
No matter what meathod people use to create their dreadlocks they are a big commitment that require a lot of hard work, care and maintainence... especially if you want them to look neat and attractive and your caucasian.
It's a hair-style that is 1000s of years old and runs through many cultures.
but its just a hairstyle. It doesnt "mean" anything

respect!! totally agree with u! it takes atleast a couple of hours per day, to keep them nice!!! and, if u do them yourselve as i did, about a 6 months, up til a year, before they are ready!!!

@ryangaston88 actually i got dreads accidentally (no work at all, no maintenance), i didn't brush my hair which was kinda afro and it grew longer as time passed by, so i've got more than 50 natural dreads, thinner or thicker, they're reach the middle of my back and a little more..

@ryangaston88 dreads do have a meaning.the point is to let god comb your hair.never being selfish enough to try to"style"it out yourself for personal satisfaction.people only worry about"fashion and looking good"to attract mates and becouse thats all theyve learned from living in "society" what they call babylon. never brushing nor taking care of you hair is one way to show humbleness towards god and slaping babylon in the face at the same time. now some people wear them to try and look "cool"
