Ocean City, New Jersey, totally digging this song just before my senior year in high school at Cherry Hill High School East..... Working at Prep's Pizza on the boardwalk. Unforgettable summer................
For being one of their less purchased albums, this one was always the favorite of mine. Even with the more popular first and second releases, this one sticks out as their best effort by far !!! Summer Sun is just so smart, complete, and worthy of their anthem song ! Whoever important that wasn't listening when this was released needs to step up and say they're sorry.
@Ken5244 Thanks, I was afraid I was wrong on that one. I just looked at another comment below that said they were Canadian. Anyways I still think Canada had some hard ass rock bands back then.
Regards to Shooting Star, they are great even though they are American.
I am reading through these comments and laughing. My uncle was in this band and I live in OCNJ now. I was 5 years old when this song came out and living in the Philadelphia area. They were a great band and I am still in touch with the ORIGINAL members. Thanks for the great reading everyone.
Summer 1985, my girlfriend and I finally got a day off together and were driving my Dodge Dart convertible to the beach without a care in the world, and then this song came on the radio. It made one of those perfect memories that stays with you the rest of your life. God bless the members of Shooting Star.

I loved this record. Used to record it onto cassette for the car rides. Great band, great memories with Shooting Star!. Wish I could find another copy of it, but this time on cd.
Great, great band. I had the pleasure of seeing them on this tour in August of 1985 in Arlington, Texas opening for Heart. I can say that their show blew me away more than Heart since i had already seen them once before anyway.
@SuperiorPolitics I wanted to go to that show, but I had family visiting me in Dallas! Saw SS several times in Kansas during high school/college. This was my favorite album by them, then they were gone. Always such good, positive music.
@SuperiorPolitics I saw the same show but at Astroworld in Houston, Shooting Star opened up for Heart!! Both Bands put on a heck of a show as hot and humid as it was!!
Summer 1985. Best summer of my life.... Junior year before senior year in high school.... first time I got drunk and stoned.... Ocean City, NJ.... met my first girlfriend in the fall of 1985...... The best year of my life, never to be repeated.....
I agree that it was underrated and underexposed! Saw them on this tour, right up in the front row:?) For years, this song kicked off my "summer season" by being whipped out of it's sleeve and placed lovingly on the turntable:?) Memories...
Summer of 1985, cruising San Antonio's Westside (the barrio) and the downtown area with my buddies in my 1975 VW Rabbit whose transmission was about to go out!! My rabbit would smoke up a storm if I made a sudden turn or stop!! One time I made a sudden stop at a red light and so much smoke came out of the transmission, that the cars behind me had to slow down to be able to see in front of them!! It seemed like a cloud had come down from the sky!! I was a poor but proud college student!!
@proudhawkeye Cool story ! I remember I got this album right before the space shuttle crash Jan 86.. Just moved back to So, Cal from San Fran. Grew up in the bay area . San Mateo county. on the peninsula . Dang I miss those day's.....
@markinddark, thanks Mark, believe it or not, back in 1985 you and I were multi-millionaires because we had youth and time on our side!! Imagine if we could be tranported back 25 years and this time around we would let the trivial stuff go and really enjoy life to its fullest!! Had we only known that "life is so brief and time is a thief" Keep on Rocking in the Free World!!
This song was a bit obscure here in the UK but I got a copy on 12" and played it to death! Loved Summertime girls by Y&T and Boys of Summer by Don Henley too. Great mid 80's melodic rock for the sunny season.
This was the soul of my senior year in high school..... Summer, 1985 in Ocean City NJ.....fucking unbelievable times..... Thank you, Shooting Star, for those memories.........
This tune evokes so many strong memories for a lot of people and it is so tied to Summer 1985 - my senior year as well. Great songs have that effect on us - like a time machine!
I agree with tomcat, good music back then and this song is one of them. I've always loved this song. It hit the air summer 1985. I am going to see Shooting Star at a local music jam this weekend and was researching who's in the band now. Unfortunately, it's a different lead singer now, Ronnie Platt, which is a bummer because Shooting Star is not the same without the original lead, the guy singing in this video.
I remeber hearing this song on the radio when I was stationed in San Antonio for Air Force Training. What a song!!! Brings back some awesome memories when I was 19.
For me it was Summer '85 in Wildwood, NJ! The chorus of this song makes the hairs on my arms stand up and gives me goose-bumps! Brilliant! And those girls at the Jersey Shore - Wow!
Dude..... 1985 at Ocean City, NJ was phenomenal. I worked at Prep's Pizzeria on the boardwalk, brother!!! "Summer Sun" is forever BURNED IN MY EXPERIENCE THAT SUMMER........
No doubt, brother. The Jersey shore was way cool back in the 80's, when music like this was on the radio and being blasted across the boardwalk and on the beach! Prep's pizza was pretty good too...
Hey old man, (Your words) we are a unique breed here in America, yes. But I would gladly trade places. I'll take the rainy/foggy day for the sweltering Summer Sun of the Arizona valley anytime. You say when and where. It'll be like 'The Holiday'. Let's switch places for a few months, eh?
Great song and accompanying video. I loved the concept of the people becoming younger. Although in a different context, it reminds me of a Twilight Zone episode caled "Kick the Can." Can't find it to watch online, but it's about some old people in a nursing home who sneak outside in the middle of the night to play the game, and are suddenly children again...
OMG - My favorite movie scene of ALL time is the TZ Kick The Can. You are truly a unique soul. Not only do you recall this song, but you remember the precise premise of the TZ Movie scene, being forever young. That is SO awesome, I can't fathom it's depth. You rock! Spent Senior Week in Wildwood, NJ when this song came out. Then my friend bought a 67 Mustang just like the one in the video. Spent a lot of time in OCNJ. Is that pizza place still there?
WOW, thank you soooo much. This brought me right back to 1985. I bought this on cassette when it came out. If I remember correctly it was right after this was released that the law suit kicked in and all their stuff was removed from the shelves. Let's not forget "are you on my side" from Hang on for your life. Another awesome tune.
One of the original members left the group right around the time "silent scream" was released. I think there was a battle over the band's name if i remember correctly. I could be wrong. It was a long time ago.
I love this band's sound. I bought all of the re-released early LP's when they made them available on their website. Great to have them on CD finally !!! Only saw them once live, they opened for Kiss I think, back when Hang On For Your Life came out !!
OMG these guys w/KISS?? Killer!! STP was supposed to be w/KISS in '97 when I saw them but Gene kicked them out, damn. Great hearing this again, gotta grab those remastered discs! Ah, I remember the Triumph, Kansas and Shooting Star days, back in the late 70's - 80's Thanks
Shooting Star truely a great band which has unfair radio success. Assuming they are big in Kansas City which I believe they are from. Last Chance is my all time favorite song. It has everything. Summer Sun came out in 1985, reminds me of Phillips Shoes where I worked.
Can you post the lik for the fan group? As long as everyone is mentioning their fav song, ( on various vids)I really liked Hang on for your life. The whole album was great, but that song still makes me feel 18.
