  • How can I BUY a pot like this one?

  • great...ms barbara...spiritpipeman

  • I am so happy to have found this. Just saw a PBS show that led me to Goggle it. Now can you help me find how I might purchase pieces? Many thanks

  • @MsCJG01 So glad you enjoyed our video. please contact me at barbarajallen@gmail.com and I will get you in touch with someone. Where in the planet are you located?

  • I am not sure what sand they used as it was in a bucket but whatever you use, make sure it is fired out first to bisque temp if it comes from the beach. Just put it in a bisque bowl and put it in the kiln. Salt in your claybody will make your work crumble. Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it.

  • I wish I could witness to this amazing art with my eyes. Btw, what type of sand did you use for the pottery? thanks for the video!

  • Just amazing!!!!!

  • That is wonderful! You do not need a wheel or a kiln. The traditional Ghanaian potters do not use a wheel and either mound fire or pit fire. Just go for it. You will find lots of information out there. Keep me informed. I am so happy that you connected with this video.

  • great video, i am just starting out myself, don't own a wheel or kiln, gonna bring this tradition back alive in Jamaica, where i am, after all we are the descendants of Ghana, well some of us anyway. thanks again, great!

  • Actually it is the same pot. I was unable to catch the whole process because I was also teaching at the time. What you are seeing in the beginning is half the pot. They turn it over on its lip when it is leather hard and then coil the, second half in the end it is completely round. It is used to store water. Sorry if I did not make that clear in the video. Thanks so very much for watching.

  • Great video! Very interesting! But I wonder if the rounded globular pot we see at the end of the video is the same as in the beginning, that looks like a hemispherical pot, with a flat bottom? Or if it is two different types of pots. Beautiful pottery. And stupid plastic! : / Thanks for sharing! : )

  • @magicamoon Yes it is the same pot!

  • this is a great video... well, montage of pictures really, but it's great to see a culture still making things by hand as they've done for who knows how many thousands of years. that's admirable that you got to see it first hand, and even participate. haha... yeah, plastic. there's something that pretty much ruins the beauty of hand-made work.

  • Yes you are so right. The other woman is me and I lasted about 10 minutes in that position and then went and pulled out my makeshift banding wheel so that I could continue on. Thanks for commenting.

  • What an amazing process. And it would seem to be very hard on the backs of the Ghanaian women, until you notice that they all are bent at the waist with their back very flat. Every one of them in the same flat-back position. By comparison, look at the difference in position at 4:18 between the Ghanaian woman and the other woman, whose back is completely curved. It would seem that the flat back position must be less stressful or the Ghanaian women wouldn't all be working that way.
