i started a new aquarium about 3 weeks ago and my fish have got ich since this is my first. aquarium so i would like to no how to treat it before getting a bigger tank what should i use in my tank i have neons, rummy noses, platties, bristle noses and glowlights. i have no heater since it is a small tank.
You can kill ich with just heat alone. Ich cannot survive temps above 86 but is only susceptible to treatment once it detaches from the fish an is in it's free swimming stage. Anytime I've had to deal with ich, I just turn the heat to around 88 and wait till I see no signs on the fish - then leave the heat up for at least 10 days to ensure all ich is dead. You want to vac the gravel well too. I have treated this way 3 times with success and no fish deaths. I would only use medication if the fis
ok i have cherry shrimps in my 10 gallon community tank but my betta fishe has the ich what is the best treatment to get rid of ichs without harming the shrimps?
88+ Will kill your fish . average is 76-77 . You just turn it up to about 82-84 , and when the water is warmer , the metabolism speed up and crests more waste , so that when water changes come into effect .
I have just gotten a major outbreck of ich, 4 fish dead in one night, 3 with tons of white spots. I havae been giving them medicine, And to make things worse, only my breeding females have gotten sick or died! Most of them were pregnant too! Now I have to get new fish.... and hope for the best
I have six tiger barbs and have done partial water change. Then i put the ich medicine in it,but i don't know how much heat the tiger barbs can take help me please!
i saw another video on youtube from a guy who seemed very experienced, who said medication is better used in a quarataine tank to prevent biological problems in your main system, and to use UV-light in your main system... it's also an idea to treat new fish in a quarataine tank to remove fish deseases (which are not always visible !!) before introducing them into your main tank.
@TheBSideDJ He was probably talking about salt water reef tanks. Reef tanks have live rock nd inverts that are very sensitive to ick medications. Normally in a salt water tank you take all the fish out to a quarantine tank. The ick in your main system then dies because it has no fish host to attach to. Meanwhile the fish can be treated in a quarantine tank.
Just out of curiousity but is it possible the raise in temperature cures the ich better than the chemical additive? Since when using a chemical it's advisable to remove any carbon that may be in the filter system, otherwise the chemical added will get removed.
little tip: when u r treating for any sickness remove the filteration out of the tank or de-activate it because filter will absorb all the meds in to it.
@Ludscher I'm not sure if you have to turn out the lights for it to work or not, but I have always done it while removing ich just to make it less stressful on the fish. If I use salt or medicine I turn the lights off, turn the temp up, check water parameters daily, and do a 25% water change every 24 - 48 hours (depending on how bad the infection is). It has always worked well for me.
how your fishes did? i have the same problem but i'm using a product call nox-ich, i've seen 2 of my parrots died and i got 2 oscars too and they looked very bad, i hope they did good even thoug this video was long time ago

@MegaPlanelover Hello! I mixed my goldfish and my freshwater angelfish. At first, my angelfish cannot eat, because my goldfish is always hungry. So what we did is break the fish flakes into tiny little bit pieces. We somehow managed to make the flakes sink, and my angelfish is done eating already... By the way, My angelfish is so pitiful... It only has one fin =(

If your fish keep getting ich on a regular basis you may want to investigate its cause.
