As noted on the package, the kit is not designed to be used on bare metal items and is only to be used to test items/surfaces for lead such as Paint, Water, Dishes, Toys, Soil etc.

Serious question: Is there any other component that can produce the brown reaction?

A vendor in China is rejecting the test results I have given for a metal item on which I used the patented leach test method. She is saying it must be something else in the metal that is changing the test results to brown.
