@thatbigdork Totally agree. It was on the B-Side of "Under Attack", but it should have been the main single. Sadly, they never performed it live- it would have been AWESOME if they had.
I love the kind of ironic undertone in the contrast betveen the funny/funky interpretetation and the mening of the lyrics. Its a very positiv and "look forward" number.
Just ordered their songs in spanish.Had almost all of them, but not on cd.Love how Frida does it...Spanish is close to swedish in pronounciating.Someone shouted spanish being far from that.Try it! Jag kan tala svenska men älska på spanska.
wish that last album would have been released-you owe me one,i am the city, the day before you came, just like that, cassandra-they were progressing into the 80s, and then it came to a close..........
I agree. ABBA's music would have continued to shape the sound of the 80s as it had the 70s. Still, we're very lucky we have "Chess" and the female solo albums.
Hi Parma71 ... I agree with you that Abba should've finished and released that last album. That's why I've dedicated my channel to COMPLETING Abba's 9th album. Give it a look and send in your choice. If B & B won't finish it, maybe we youtubers can. Best Regards, Ivy Smith (Ohio, USA)
Bjorn and Benny were perfectionists and if they weren't happy with a song they ditched it. So maybe they did write some bad songs but they were never released. Also depends what you mean by a 'bad' song. For example 'So Long' never made it onto the charts in Britain so is it a 'bad' song?
As i see it if ABBA did write a bad song then they'd re-write it for instance (Happy Hawaii - Why did it have to be me).I personally prefer their album tracks to their chart hits (maybe because thats what we hear all the time on the radio) i dunno.
One thing about ABBA is that they always wrote songs that you couldn't really categorize---each of their compositions was always highly original and melodic. To say this song is funk or disco or whatever is erroneous, because it's neither. It's unique, as all ABBA songs are. That's what makes ABBA so special and likable to millions.
This actually sounds like some of their music in the 70's (altho I know it came from the 80's) Back when they really sounded like they enjoyed the music so very much.
that is what made ABBA so irresistible for years - their apparent both care for each other and enjoyment that they took from performing - however once either or particularly both of those characteristics ceased the group could not maintain its validity
She wanted to go out and party but her man was strangling her with 'love', she's cut the relationship, and is now saying "you owe me one" for making her miss her big love chances
@harpsicello There's a bit of how each member was feeling about the group as a whole when this song was recorded. Granted, Bjorn wrote it but he had a way, especially at the end, of capturing the feelings of the group and its individual members. As a group this is one of the last songs recorded and they are getting ready to go off into other directions with solo albums (girls), and musicals for the guys.
I was sooooo curious about this song and couldn't find it anywhere! thank u for posting, wow is really different from all the other songs, but it has that catchy melody as usual! love the chorus!
Any song composed by ABBA is great. If this song was put on the radio today out of the blue then everyone would probably say ABBA. I think quite a few people would actually like this song even if they weren't ABBA fans.
It wasn't put on an officially released album, it was a B side to Under Attack in 1981-82? I can't remember, but it's not on any of ABBA's official albums, though it is a bonus track on The Visitors today
@Joeluvsagnetha It was supposed to be on Opus 10(as it is said in their 1st box set), their 9th album, along with The Day Before You Came, Cassandra, Under Attack, Just Like That, and I Am The City but then the group disbanded so the album was never released(how sad). Whenever I think their sad ending, I wish they were still here, playing.
@PokeDigiSingingFan Yes, this is very true. I will add though, that their ninth album was not going to be called "Opus 10", this is just a name that was given to it by reporters.
@Sitkan16Abba That's exactly what I said, it wasn't released on any of the studio albums. It was intended to be on their ninth studio album, which never ended up being created. It was, however the B-Side to Under Attack and was released in the "Thank You For the Music" Box Set, and is now a bonus track on "The Visitors" in CD form.

it sounds like a song for little children...and its very tacky, this one together with "put on my white sombrero" are the worst ABBA songs ever. Everthyng else they did is FLAWLESS!
(for xr8ek) The song "The Day Before You Came", for some people, would indeed need a number of passes before its could be appreciated. Please listen to it a few times more. Listen to the lyrics --it's a modern poetry.
@justanaquita Very true. I didn't care for TDBYC when it was first released in '82 and now I agree with many others that this song is a classic. Nobody has done anything quite like it before or since.
I like how Frida is using her voice in some parts of that song like she used it in the visitors (the song), then i like backing vocals, it's clever, and of course nice oriental feeling at the beginning of the song. GREAT! Sometimes i think that hard core top hit One Night in Bangok is developed by BB partly using some ideas from You Owe Me One.
'You Owe Me One' will also appear on The Visitors Deluxe Edition.

have you taken a good listen to The day Before You Came? Tedious, boring, monotonous and very unlike their normal excellence.

(for jojorodrigues) Yes!. This song reminds me back when I was a grader running in the school yard. But it is nice. This simply proves ABBA's
broad grasp of their art. Not bad --far from being worse...
