Women in music in the 1970s and early 1980s were awesome -Linda Ronstadt, Heart, Bonnie Raitt, Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie of Fleetwood Mac, Pat Benatar, Debby Harry, Chrissie Hynde, Joan Jett, Tina Turner, Annie Lennox, even Cher - it was just an amazing period for women in rock.

I don't what happened after that.

Except for Sheryl Crow in the 1990s, & Courtney Love who is bent on self-destruction, there are no standouts when it comes to women singersin the past 20 years.
