Flautist is the term used in the US, and i thought most other places for longer as well. It was my impression that James Galway wanted to change that word, and use flutist instead. I figured that if anyone had a right to, it was james Galway.

flautist is right its derived from the italian word flauto and since itlian is the langauge that is mainly used in music aside from the smaller percentage of french and other langauges than flautist is more correct well done

@lifestoryofmusic Not really. Flautist is a term used in the states. I once heard James Galway whine about how we Americans like to make everything sound so sophisticated and important. 'Flutist' has been around waaaay longer, so I figure it would be, you know, the "right" one, so to speak.
