Thanks for the tutorial, I just finished a hair style that looks great. Only problem is when I rotate the head the hair detaches from the skull cap and moves too far ahead. Any idea why that would happen?
I guess I didn't really cover that part. The hair is attached to the scalp (or skull cap as you referred it as). That means if the scalp moves, the hair moves. You can have the hair attached to the head, but I find it easier to manage in my opinion. If you put the hair follicles on multiple objects, it can be a mess. If all of the follicles are attached to the scalp, just do a wrap deformer from the scalp to the head and your hair should move with it.
Thanks for the comment. I hope the video has been of use to you. I forgot to mention the script I wrote for the follicle simulation method quick toggle. I posted in a link in the description.
You may have missed it since the youtube compression when i uploaded the videos, but this is talked about in section 4a at about 3:25. View that to see it done in real time.
To modify a curve, you have to modify the start curve. To view the start curve, go do Hair > Display > Start Curves.
Now that you can modify the start curves, you can select and modify the curves. This is where you put deformers like lattices. To select the CVs, just go to subObject mode. ...
... to get to subObject mode, you can click and hold the right mouse button over the object you want (in this case, a curve) and select Control Vertex. This will turn the curve blue (by default) and purple-ish dots will appear on the curve (the CVs). Now you can manipulate the curve with fine detail.
