You sidestepped the more fundamental issue: there is more than one "God's Word." Christians have the Bible, Muslims have the Koran, Hindus have the Vedas (and Bghavad-gita), and so on. Unless one wants to be accused of begging the question, one must determine by which criteria one book's claims are deemed valid while the other books' claims are not.

And what if ALL of the so-called holy books are ultimately the "doctrines of men"?

I can't say that I see it as being nearly that cut-and-dried, but you do state your beliefs clearly and directly.

Of course, this just opens up a whole other can of worms: Since people have always had contradictory conceptions of God--and have come to differing conclusions about His will--whose version do we rely upon?

I didn't "blame it all" on Bush, although he's been the worst president in my lifetime (so far).

But again, using that word "evil"--it seems inapt. Evil is a term that should only be applied to the most horrific people. When you use it so loosely, it loses its effect. (It's like when feminists use the word "rape" to describe ANY sexual experience that they later came to regret.)

I don't know where to go from here. I don't think that Obama is an "evil" man. Hitler was evil; Stalin was evil; to call Obama evil is to deprive the word of its intended impact. I thought Bush was a disgrace and an embarrassment, but I wouldn't call him "evil" either.

And I disagree that "by supporting him, you are supporting everything he is doing." Politics is not either/or. I've yet to meet a politician with whom I've agreed on every issue.

(FYI, the Republicans supported NAFTA too.)
