Cool point that Julian makes--its not just that wikileaks gets individual stories out to the people, but that in working with the mainstream press, their reporters have been irreversibly educated about the nature of corruption-- then they can't help but take that wisdom with them to inform their own reporting. And that will help, despite the difficulty of then getting those stories published...as long as the press is hyper concentrated and owned by the super-rich.

Assange = actually uncovered to the people of the world the multitude of secrets that the governments - that the people pay for with their taxes - have kept from them.
I don't agree with Assange absolute anti-war anti-violence stance, but that doesn't change the incredible net good he has done for the world.
All other questions and points are worthless irrelevant excrement dredged up by subhuman trolls.
@mphello You are uneducated and should read more. It's the "yap yap yap" that matters, Assange didn't change shit. If you actually read Žižek's books you would understand what he's trying to say. It's hard to understand him because you are not knowledgable enough about what he teaches, it's that simple.
If you actually looked at what Assange DID and the crimes he uncovered, then you'd know he has made the FIRST step in a series of MANY necessary steps to force governments to be held accountable to their taxpaying citizens.
Nothing wrong with being a Marxist. All political philosophies have their pros and cons. But extreme fanatic anti-marxists who refuse to look at the pros while cherrypicking only the cons themselves HAVE no pros. Only cons.
Couldn't Zizek have at least shown up in a tie and jacket, rather than a ratty t-shirt, to at least attempt an APPEARANCE about caring about whatever the heck he's talking about? This is the one and only one time I'd ever judge a book by its jacket, rather than content, because, Zizek, baby, the words just ain't coming out right.
I had to shut Zizek off after 10 seconds. He sounds like he's epileptic or something.
@rorycalhoun27 Ha Ha :) When we take over, it will be so easier to eliminate guys like you. :) Quotes like this will make us think no re-education is posible. :P For me as an anticomunist is very hard to say but: gulag's will rise again :P
It is amazing how some of you cannot see the utter hypocrisy and more importantly falsity, the accusation that Assange has blood on his hands. And coming from some of you, the Pentagon, corporate media, corporate/military complex which has cheered on, aided and abetted or directly killed hundreds of thousands of innocents in Iraq, Afghanistan , Pakistan et al. Oil to them is more precious than mere earthlings(i.e. the majority of us). May you imperialists burn in hell.
@emotionalinvalid I see the hypocrisy and falsity and do my best to shed light on that. Thanks for your comment. It's refreshing to see a sane comment, after some of the delirium and blind hatred this film has attracted.
@NOTAMARKinc I am grateful for people like you who upload videos with interesting, compelling, justice seeking and courageous people in those videos. Thank you and you are very welcome.
But I need some levity too, i can't be serious all the time. Setting aside the blind hatred comments, I did have a few laughs at some of the comments on Zizek's eccentricities.
3rd sept, 15:46 hrs. Wikileaks ( @ twitter) is practically tweeting up stuff im writing on youtube in real time-- using it for their headlines etc . Its really sad; sometimes its a title without a link attached , like he used to do....Hes just sitting at home on his computer in his mansion , thinking "I'll use that ...I'll use that...Dont care if its worthless, or refers to nothing..I'm having that, not Moon" . What a sad little cretin
Assange from what I know about "Manning", resisting psychological pressure by refraining to say "The CIA are after me cos assange hacks my emails and uses my copy in his speech" is not the greatest mark of "high moral character" cos as you well know, he wasnt offered a bribe, a honeypot, a job, or even a compliment to test the high values- instead faux-persecution took place- which may make a person unstable if the persecution was successful- but has nothing to do with changing their morality
a. Assange is the best simulation actor i have ever seen. He can remember thousands of words of script in conjunction with learnt mannerisms , clearly has an unusually photogenic memory, and appears to use a body heuristic formula of some kind – notice he uses his hands and feet to prompt retrieval from his memory as he goes along. (look @ 11.00- 16.00 , for instance: Feet splay in and out like a dance, thumbs are forefingers are ‘ grabbing’ info from cuffs, collars etc from where
b.. theyre stored in his mind map, he even has a standby for interruptions (see the mic interference) which consists of shouting quickly over the top of the interruption as if its not even happening.) I have seen him do this many times in interviews. Whilst genuine thinkers and teachers don’t welcome intrusions, they are still able to break off - changing the subject to acknowledge the interruption and interruptor if need be—and are then able to resume their place in their
c...thought process once the intrusion has subsided. They can also respond plausibly to spontaneous questions that are slightly off the beaten track and yet still connect to the field, without freezing like Assange does- and giving a stock answer that does not reply to the nature of the spontaneous question. But assange cant do any of this—- not even for a second—cos any break to the flow of his heuristic model will cause him to immediately
d....lose his place in his carefully constructed retrieval system. Its more evidence-if any was needed- that assange is just a frontman and an actor - a genius in retrieval may be, especially useful for mimicking and sending up real dissidents perhaps- but hardly the genius in intellectual capacities that he is made out to be. If he was an academic, hed be in education, wouldnt he?
@eclecticfire73 Ok, I checked what you do on your profile and respect to you. However ... what are you expertise in reading people like this? The thing is, if you're that busy watching his legs move when he talks, his hands, his face or the way his nose wiggles, you're not really paying attention to what he is saying. You know why? Coz he really ISN'T that charismatic and on some level that bothers you. A guy like this should inspire awe ... yet he doesn't. That must mean he's a CIA agent.
Suddenly capt vaughan is a co-founder when he thinks mentioning his wife might give him a bit of respectability.
THis idea was copied off the concept of Annabels, anyway.
Its been done.
As if this warlord discusses his Business with his colleagues on an open busy High Street near Paddington Central Station and opposite the Praed Street Sex Clinic for women who work in the sex industry.
@15.30 "I like to go from the small to the large not just by abstraction or analogy but by encompassing all of 'it' together and then trying to abstract through mathematics and statistics to push both of these things at the same time- the individual relationship, plus the state relationship plus the relationship that has to do with civilastion as a whole.."
Assange, i thought you said you had a degree,in a scientific field? Id consider rephrasing 90% of what you say-- you sound silly. How about "I like to do statistical analysis on data so I can draw some sociological conclusions". Sort of A level standard really. I know youre trying to impress the educated MR Zizek, but if he has a PhD in philosophy or science, Im sure he's quite aware of how the methodology of research works...and your point was...? (!!)
Ive got a good question, Why were only US embassy Cables hacked- and no other agencies belonging to any other countrys in the world?
America, fine, by why not any others- if the hacking capacity was so great...why not, Israel, British embassies, Russia, China or France? Just a thought.
And secondly, if he has released about 250,000 so far, and 140,000 this weekend, would that not be the entire archive of say the past ten years or so?
Surely there are not about half a milllion docs written to the state department in a few years?
Even if they were, whats pasting them on the internt supposed to prove-- that nobody can keep anything a secret from America?
Dont think this has helped US-World relations one jot- not even in the way they think it has..
Its terrible to think that the people who call Julia Gillard a C**t & a B**ch on youtube, are probably the very same people writing these wiki cables.
@eclecticfire73 Why do you believe that Assange's organization hacked only US embassy cables? What do you think his MO is? You're comments on this thread are, by the way, interesting - especially your analysis of Assange's behavior. It is a good question, like you said, but I'd like to know what your conclusions are.
@smileyfacemug Assange has worked in the general fields of dissemination and distribution of information, political dissent and subversion through electronic means, and electronic and political activism, since the early 90s. He's more than qualified to be on this stage, and his professional, refined views are relevant to the discussion.
It's sad to see this kind of irreverent and misled hyperbole coming from someone watching this kind of video.
@candorist I like how you can't distinguish the fact between real issues and opinions and then claim that you are smarter than someone else in incoherent sentences. Bravo.
@candorist Oh, and lol at the "If you don't understand the significance of abstract thought and philosophy - just admit it - you're not that guy. But please, by all means, don't act as if you're smarter.".
@candorist Are you kidding me? No, this discussion doesn't rely on opinion. Its obvious what are real issues being presented. For example, Assange mentioned how his cables are changing mainstream journalism, because it reaches the journalist who work for big media outlets and they journalists have to read the cables, changing their view, and ultimately changing how they publish their materials. Zizek then then talks about liberals, jack bower from 24, and then marxists and conservatives.
The problem was, they attempt to traffik women who have no ties but they made a mistake in one case & discovered the victim who had survived had close ties to various people (including family members that they either knew nothing about or had not thought of as counting for much obstacle).A lot with the wikileaks vehicle,
& Julian Assange's speeches, are about "thinking aloud" various of captain69's concerns & dilemmas & solutions so as they are not toppled. I can tell the name of the dissident if anyone is interested.
The bit about the grandma is that captain69 went to every single relative of the "dissident" and threatened them if they provided any support to the "dissident" they would be punished with their life, their home, the lives of remaining children and so on.
. If you listen to Assange properly he's not actually saying anything coherent. He strings unrelated clauses together-- thats about it. he works for a security company who pinch phrases and then string them together , thats why it is not flowing. He also has trouble remembering. The whole schtick was to prove to the upper classes that theyre "dissident" muse is 'not coherent' by saying he is paraphrasing the dissident word for word as well as adding their own "security talk" speak.
@candorist , Assange doesnt know anything- he's just a trapped little twink boy having to perform a few dull scripts for his daddies - a sense of humour requires autonomy for a start . You cant do that when youre giving beejays for a living.
@candorist No, when I say real issues, I mean real things are going on right now. Zizek is just commenting on nonsensical ideas. There is a clear distinction as to what is "real issues". If your looking for something funny and entertaining, I suggest you go watch a comedy show. I don't think this video's purpose is to cure cancer.
@candorist Are you serious? Were you even paying attention to this video or were you too busy scanning for jokes? Whenever the "filosopher" spoke, he goes off on some tangent rant, blithering about trivial ideas, whereas Assange was speaking on real issues. The "filosopher" did not keep any discussion alive, he merely commented on Assange's words. Assange is the only person really talking in this video.
@Flows234 I think you are fundamentally wrong. Interpretation of facts is just as important as facts are, only perhaps a step forward towards a better understanding. I highly enjoyed Zizek's commentaries.
As for the captain Vaughan and dans great wall picture, Youve been getting your artist to do the same wall picture for ten years now...dont you ever get sick of doing the same picture?
@Dupedin2Madness It might not make a difference to you. But for say, an arab, who can read about what's really going on in the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, WikiLeaks is meaningful. I know a politician who admits it's significant, even if they are just leads to the bigger picture. I don't think it's dumb at all, I think if you're too materialistic about the whole thing then you won't see the point.
Wow, man, I can't get over the way the guy on the left, waves his arms around, scratches his face, touches his head, tickles belly, wipes his nose, and picks his ears, all in about 3 seconds !
Then he starts again !
I thought he was doing sign language, at first, then i realised - he's not !
Oh, right. Is he a REGISTERED genius ? Does he have a MENSA pass ? What is his pecialist genius area ? Annoying body movements ? Or disturning people's minds, using only your "whoop, yim yuuuuurp, flupp flupp" ?
Did you study with him, and wash his clothes, and brush his hair, and lick his twitching backsdie ? Is that how you now he's a genius ?
And if he's such a genius, why cant he sit fucking still and speak liek a human, instead of a monkey with too much medicine ?
These really are just bourgeois radicals repeating the same shit they've been repeating for almost three hundred years now. Democracy is an empty game. The choice now is between a true technocracy or the continuation of the neoliberal nightmare, chaos, collapse, and species death.
@MrVoulezvous Zizek would agree to a certain extent, he is very much against a democracy, read some of his more philosophical writings and you will understand.
1.03.00 i wonder if he was saying he has been told he will be killed if he releases thos documents? like they made it quite clear that it WOULD happen if he/wikileaks released them?
I've found it hard to take Zizek seriously since I read a passage by Lacan, arguing that the male penis was equal to the square root of -1. Because you know, the libido is irrational. Or was this some kind of joke? I dunno. Either it's funny, or irritating - I can't decide which.
Žižek is great, although contradictory, and makes some brilliant insights. However, his use of terrorism, and this goes back to his book about Violence and the use of violence, conflates actual violence/terrorism with the harms and wrongs of capitalist societies. If you call all of it violence or terrorism then you do not differentiate between violence/terrorism which gets you killed, and the System which you can (technically) change through nonviolent, political means.
we are anonymous, we are aware of the corruption in the world's governments and their apathy for the human lives because of money.
we are aware of the governments' attempt to cover on the news of the rebellions to keep us as slaves for the current system.
we are anonymous, we declare war on the corrupted system, join the plan to get your freedom and rights back. you are a human being, your life has value. we are anonymous, we are legion, expect us!
@szwedzkiPL I would think he thinks of everyone as an idiot until proven wrong. It comes with the territory of being a brilliant philosopher. He's just honest about it.
i dont get how in this day and age a man can be treated the way hes treated... house arrest on a mickey mouse charge with no evidence??? just goes to show how pissed off people in power are that he let the people know whats really going on....

I don't agree with Assange absolute anti-war anti-violence stance, but that doesn't change the incredible net good he has done for the world.
All other questions and points are worthless irrelevant excrement dredged up by subhuman trolls.
mphello 5 months ago
@mphello You are uneducated and should read more. It's the "yap yap yap" that matters, Assange didn't change shit. If you actually read Žižek's books you would understand what he's trying to say. It's hard to understand him because you are not knowledgable enough about what he teaches, it's that simple.
S0ulForgeD 5 months ago
@S0ulForgeD You are stupid and need to read more.
If you actually looked at what Assange DID and the crimes he uncovered, then you'd know he has made the FIRST step in a series of MANY necessary steps to force governments to be held accountable to their taxpaying citizens.
mphello 5 months ago
@mphello I totally agree that Zizek is all yap yap yap. And even a completely tasteless one.
ididete 4 months ago
Nothing wrong with being a Marxist. All political philosophies have their pros and cons. But extreme fanatic anti-marxists who refuse to look at the pros while cherrypicking only the cons themselves HAVE no pros. Only cons.
mphello 5 months ago
Couldn't Zizek have at least shown up in a tie and jacket, rather than a ratty t-shirt, to at least attempt an APPEARANCE about caring about whatever the heck he's talking about? This is the one and only one time I'd ever judge a book by its jacket, rather than content, because, Zizek, baby, the words just ain't coming out right.
I had to shut Zizek off after 10 seconds. He sounds like he's epileptic or something.

Assange from what I know about "Manning", resisting psychological pressure by refraining to say "The CIA are after me cos assange hacks my emails and uses my copy in his speech" is not the greatest mark of "high moral character" cos as you well know, he wasnt offered a bribe, a honeypot, a job, or even a compliment to test the high values- instead faux-persecution took place- which may make a person unstable if the persecution was successful- but has nothing to do with changing their morality
eclecticfire73 6 months ago

But assange cant do any of this—- not even for a second—cos any break to the flow of his heuristic model will cause him to immediately
eclecticfire73 6 months ago
d....lose his place in his carefully constructed retrieval system. Its more evidence-if any was needed- that assange is just a frontman and an actor - a genius in retrieval may be, especially useful for mimicking and sending up real dissidents perhaps- but hardly the genius in intellectual capacities that he is made out to be. If he was an academic, hed be in education, wouldnt he?
eclecticfire73 6 months ago
@eclecticfire73 Ok, I checked what you do on your profile and respect to you. However ... what are you expertise in reading people like this? The thing is, if you're that busy watching his legs move when he talks, his hands, his face or the way his nose wiggles, you're not really paying attention to what he is saying. You know why? Coz he really ISN'T that charismatic and on some level that bothers you. A guy like this should inspire awe ... yet he doesn't. That must mean he's a CIA agent.

THis idea was copied off the concept of Annabels, anyway.

eclecticfire73 6 months ago

And secondly, if he has released about 250,000 so far, and 140,000 this weekend, would that not be the entire archive of say the past ten years or so?
eclecticfire73 6 months ago
Surely there are not about half a milllion docs written to the state department in a few years?
Even if they were, whats pasting them on the internt supposed to prove-- that nobody can keep anything a secret from America?
Dont think this has helped US-World relations one jot- not even in the way they think it has..
Its terrible to think that the people who call Julia Gillard a C**t & a B**ch on youtube, are probably the very same people writing these wiki cables.
Charming behaviour.
eclecticfire73 6 months ago

Flows234 6 months ago
@candorist Are you kidding me? No, this discussion doesn't rely on opinion. Its obvious what are real issues being presented. For example, Assange mentioned how his cables are changing mainstream journalism, because it reaches the journalist who work for big media outlets and they journalists have to read the cables, changing their view, and ultimately changing how they publish their materials. Zizek then then talks about liberals, jack bower from 24, and then marxists and conservatives.

Maynard0504 6 months ago 3
MoonAharshMistress 6 months ago
@candorist , Assange doesnt know anything- he's just a trapped little twink boy having to perform a few dull scripts for his daddies - a sense of humour requires autonomy for a start . You cant do that when youre giving beejays for a living.
IamBradleyAssange 6 months ago
@candorist No, when I say real issues, I mean real things are going on right now. Zizek is just commenting on nonsensical ideas. There is a clear distinction as to what is "real issues". If your looking for something funny and entertaining, I suggest you go watch a comedy show. I don't think this video's purpose is to cure cancer.
Flows234 6 months ago
@smileyfacemug
Think of it as a dialectic between theory and practice.
logotrix 6 months ago
@candorist Are you serious? Were you even paying attention to this video or were you too busy scanning for jokes? Whenever the "filosopher" spoke, he goes off on some tangent rant, blithering about trivial ideas, whereas Assange was speaking on real issues. The "filosopher" did not keep any discussion alive, he merely commented on Assange's words. Assange is the only person really talking in this video.
Flows234 6 months ago
@Flows234 I think you are fundamentally wrong. Interpretation of facts is just as important as facts are, only perhaps a step forward towards a better understanding. I highly enjoyed Zizek's commentaries.

MoonAharshMistress 6 months ago
@Dupedin2Madness It might not make a difference to you. But for say, an arab, who can read about what's really going on in the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, WikiLeaks is meaningful. I know a politician who admits it's significant, even if they are just leads to the bigger picture. I don't think it's dumb at all, I think if you're too materialistic about the whole thing then you won't see the point.

Also… LOLZ at Assange and Goodman’s reactions to Žižek’s joke at 45:00 !
Rascaduanok 7 months ago
Žižek is great, although contradictory, and makes some brilliant insights. However, his use of terrorism, and this goes back to his book about Violence and the use of violence, conflates actual violence/terrorism with the harms and wrongs of capitalist societies. If you call all of it violence or terrorism then you do not differentiate between violence/terrorism which gets you killed, and the System which you can (technically) change through nonviolent, political means.
