@mrpwase we go back in time and put condoms on the 8 guys' daddy's wangs, and keep them from being born. Because they don't like Rush. it makes the world better.
best rush concert i ever seen was during a blizzard in cleveland in 1977-78 no shit they where use to it and we didnt care either because the whole public hall was filled every seat sold out show, 20 foot snowdrifts and we where partying our asses off listening to rush live smoking some redbud and drinking some wild turkey what great times in cleveland back then then summer time cruising the valley , noke cleveland.
I may be wrong, but to me Ayn Rand's genius was her ability to turn "conventional modern wisdom" on its head. Like what if a government co-opts you into their agenda by telling you that you are just being "selfish" to want to opt out? Selfishness is wrong, right? It is not that simple, and I do not think Rand is correctly represented if we make her complex and multifaceted work into a string of slogans. However, she was very brash and she is partly responsible for the misunderstandings.
Of course we all want to believe in the freedom of the individual to make their own choices and forge their own path in life. The problem is that everything is interdependent, only in sports like golf and tennis or a non productive pursuit like gambling can an individual truly do it by themselves. I think Peart's views changed over the years as he realised the paradox of writing lyrics glorifying individual achievement while the music was created as a team effort between three great musicians.
@Veaseify The point isn't to exclude everyone else. Working with other people is totally okay. The point is to not let others steal from your mind. Don't give sanction to the looters of the world. Have confidence in your own capacity and ability.
An Ode to Libertarianism aka "Individualism" as opposed to "Collectivsm" aka Communism! Long live the liberty, life and dignity of the individual in the whirl and rush of humanity! xD
@TakeMeBackTo1986 Rush! I haven't heard them for years! Thanks for bringing this to my attention. When I was younger I bought my boyfriend tickets to see them. Turns out he was in love with the drummer. Oh well. LOL
Know your place in life is where you want to beDon't let them tell you that you owe it all to me Keep on looking forward...no use in looking 'roundHold your head above the ground and they won't bring you down...Live for yourself...there's no one else
More worth living forBegging hands and bleeding hearts will only cry out for more. i cant tell you how much these lyrics resemble my beliefs

@JudiTheWitch Listen carefully to lyrics of The Trees, it's a short but brilliant celebration of excellence, a statement against the notion of 'equality' and against the organised violence employed by unions in the name of equality.
The influence of objectivism and potentially other libertarian icons on the band is clear in The Trees. Incidently such views are probably why they are snubbed by the RRHOF in place of a bunch of leftist morons.
@Flagman125 True. He (mostly) got over it, though. :) Actually, I'm a serious lefty -- like, anarchist-ish, libertarian socialist. OK, fine. This stuff is totally on the other side of the spectrum. So what? A good song, even though I don't dig the politics. Kind of like how I feel about Tolkien. Again -- so what? I think their Ayn Randiness is what has kept them out of the Hall of Fame. If so, that's really idiotic. Have always loved Rush -- and I read Anthem, too. People need to chill. :)
7 people were attacked by the FBN owl because they were not worthy of the awesomeness that is the leadoff track which introduced us to The Professor's rhythmic and lyrical contributions that has made Rush what they have been for over 40 years. They would not have lasted long without him, and would have been relegated to history as Canada's Led Zeppelin. Let's be very thankful that didn't happen.
Rush should be taught in music classes all over the world. Otherwise we'll end up with more people like............well, let's just leave them nameless.
@BaneOfXistence4 They still are. Well, occasionally. My guitar teacher asks me what music i listen to at the beginning of each term, and when I said Rush, he was ecstatic. Rush was his favorite band, and they are mine. Guess I've got a LOT of rush ahead of me. :D
@HALO3SHIZAL Learn to appreciate music. Shitty old artists? Beethoven was Geddy Lee's great great granddaddy. Without the Fifth Symphony, you wouldn't have Rush. Composers like Mahler, Wagner, Tchaikovsky... you needed that element of power and intensity in music to create what we have today. Blues and classical music are essential to rock and metal. Regardless of how much you like classical, you should understand the roots of rock and metal and appreciate how far music has come.
@BaneOfXistence4 ha this is interesting cuz my old music teacher for digital music theory made us listen to rush all the time. and i didnt really get their music til now.
@PrisonBreakFilms One of the worst bands of all time, imho. When Rush came back from their unfortunate 6 year hiatus, in Conn. before they started a radio dj came out and advertised that Aerosmith was going to perform at the stadium in a week and the entire crowd booed like I never heard a crowd boo. Funny as all hell.
@bearthepoet26 sorry, I misread your comment. I read it as a bieber fan comment, saying anyone who preffers led zep, the beatles or rush is insane. I'm not insane...
Alex Lifeson's tribute to the flag waving power of Zep's "Achilles Last Stand". And Geddy Lee sounds so fucking ferocious. Neil Peart is as dependable as always. I can literally see Nicko McBrain taking notes!
@daemonWithin Actually, this song came out 3 or 4 years before LZ's "Achilles Last Stand". Alex and the boys didn't copy anyone elses sound AFAIK...the closest style back in the early-mid 70's was Black Sabbath.
