  • as an additional note, jambo really doesn't have meaning and is meant for tourists so mambo or hujambo is used, but wherever you are they will probably know if you're a tourist or not anyway

  • @TomHa1 jambo means 'hello'. it's never not had a meaning. it's just that it's rarely used among the kenyans. it's mostly tourists who use it (not really sure why they are taught that and not mambo or habari or sasa)

  • @cutefifsta Habari means have you got news? or "Habari gani".

  • @zonkozonko well they are a form of greeting but yeah the direct translation is 'have you got any news'. they both mean the same thing. 'Habary gani' is the proper form i guess and we shortened it to 'habari'

  • @Fraggle24 kiswahili means swahili language, jambo means 'hello', hujambo is like asking 'is there anything the matter with you', and karibu means welcome or come in (to my house)

  • Jambo also means like hello :P

  • Been looking over the lyrics and translations, trying to make sense of why it's Jambo and not Hujambo..

Shouldn't it be Hujambo, Hujambo Bwana?

  • @Fraggle24 no Jambo means hello.. In Kiswahili

  • @SuperfineTobey Kiswahili.... Well then.. I'm looking in the wrong dictionary then x.x

  • @Fraggle24 why what language did u look?

  • Actually you might want to refer to the English Swahili dictionary..

    Karibu means Welcome

Don't mean to sound snippy, if I do..

  • jambo means welcome
