@richard99th actaully, goldfish r fairly healthy for them, but ONLY as a treat once and a wile, and minnows r the same way, but minnows give ur oscar (or any fish) less of a chance of getting hith
@freddietheakita Yeah um ur wrong! I have a 10 gallon goldfish tank with not only Orandas and Lionheads (lionheads coming soon) but regular goldfish,too and they are quite entertaining. Oscars are nice but i find goldfish more entertaining and cute. Don't get me wrong oscars are one of my favorites, but goldfish are just way better!
I did not know they could lift the lid until I found out the hard way. Had an Albino Oscar about 8 inch that must have lifted the lid and flew out....cause he was on the carpet and did not make it....strange!

it happens. that happened to me too, i think it was a guppy; i found it dried up behind my aquarium dead but instinct told me to put it back in d water immediately so i did, a few seconds later it started wrigglin' and voila it's alive again. it died a few hours after thought, i think severe drying caused too much internal damage...
Poor oscar. My black oscar jumped out when he was little. We were about to fall asleep and we heard a splash and a thud. He fell out the back by the filter, smashed his head and hit the floor. He had a inch long white cut over his eyes. He was pretty freaked but he lived. I hope yours is ok. Poor little guy. =(

yeah maybe brain dmg or just needs more time to readjust to water, lack of oxygen damages the brain since it couldn't breathe outside, but i dont know if that goes with fishes =x i'm surprise it still is alive
u need to get some chemical skin fix stuff that will do the trick dont get natural based tho chemical its stronger and will do more harm to the tank but it will keep ur fish alive
when i was buying my oscar, the person that was getting the fish out of the tank, let it jump out of the net. it dropped 3 1/2 feet, hit a step on the ladder, dropped another three feet to the floor, then flopped around. she picked it up by hand and threw it back into the water. she then asked me to pick a different fish out. and i said "no" i want the one that you so carelessly let jump out of the net. i still have that oscar today, and he is healthy.
@cichlidkeeper89 i must say with some fish its hard to keep them in the net, especially oscars. i work at a fish store and own oscars and they thrash around alot. i have had one or two jump out of the net at work. they are so hardy though, so usually they end up fine. just saying....
have you gotten oscar medicine for it ... because i have a red oscar and he is sick so i bought these parasite killers to help the fins, gills,tail, and other stuff to help oscars

@cichlidkeeper89 i must say with some fish its hard to keep them in the net, especially oscars. i work at a fish store and own oscars and they thrash around alot. i have had one or two jump out of the net at work. they are so hardy though, so usually they end up fine. just saying....

have you gotten oscar medicine for it ... because i have a red oscar and he is sick so i bought these parasite killers to help the fins, gills,tail, and other stuff to help oscars

LOl. My red oscar has jumped out twice now. Luckily both times i was there! I think he was a bit too eagar to eat!

Yea almsot full recovery lol. One of her fins are alot shorter then the other idk if it'll grow back or not. I hope so.

@blazian88 most fish depending on how u have taken care of them will actually ight harder ur oscar looked very healthy and what it was going thru was major oxygen depravation as im sure u know all to well sorry to hear about that man i hope shes ok i recently did a change tanks with my two red oscars only one maid it do to the other beating it up under stress and was so saddend by this but use some melafix should help but good luck to u

it will dont worry my oscar got attacked by a fish like ripped half its fin off of corse my oscar faought back and killed it but still it only took a few weeks for it to recover and the baby oscar charlie and lola made loved eaating the dead peru
