@tnoutdoors9 That's the reason why lead shot is banned in my country.
Too much idiots polluting the countryside and evidently the water supply with lead. (Having leadoxide come out of your tap is not so healthy for your offspring)
Only steel shot is allowed.
Same goes for parking lots and gas stations here. They need a seperate drainage to prevent drinking water contamination.
Highly unlikely bullets and shot polluted the water supply, im thinking industrial sites dumping chemicals do far more damage than i bullets sunk 3" into a tree... Your "government" only banned lead to make ammunition more expensive and hard to get.
@blork5 You know that fear of lead is way overplayed right? Greenies use it as an excuse to shut down ranges, but they found the plant life was less than harmed.
@blork5 It's not poisioning it though. It would literally require them to have many many more times the ammount of lead on the surface being disolved into the water to have much effect at all on the trees.
@blork5 Lead shot has been shot in the millions over hunting grounds and the only ones raising a problem with that are the environmentalists who happen to be anti gun. The issue with steel shot for the humans is if they're shooting at metal targets, or they don't have a ton of money to go lay down on environmeltaly friendly shot. This issue has been a back door attempt by the EPA to effectively raise the cost of shooting a shotgun in attempt to end the practice. It's just simply not harming much
@blork5 Not rediculous at all. Lead ammo is significantly cheaper, and the government loves to do back door regulation. Look at Chicago for proof of that.
@CitrusLizard no its not. The reason why steel shot was more expensive in the beginning in the EU was because it was produced in much lower quantities as Lead. Steelprices per weight are cheaper than Lead. So when production volume took off prices of steel shot dropped below lead shot
1) Lead in paint is banned (banning painting?)
2) Lead as an additive in gasoline is banned (banning cars?)
3) Lead for fishingweights is banned (banning fishing?)
@blork5 In the United States steel shot is still generally more expensive, and you have to be concerned about ricochets. I'm not debating whether or not lead is toxic, it clearly is, but its not soo toxic as to attack someone over using it in a shot gun. People should filter their water, in this day and age there is no reason not to do so. And the environment seems to do well enough despite us using lead for munitions since the musket.
@blork5 Corrosive primers make shit cheaper. I don't know why they would ban non corrosive as the corrosive have iodide salts in them. I'm saying there isn't the environmeltal apocolypse you are trying to paint it to be. It isn't banned here, its not going to be in the near future, so deal with it, it's not your country.
@blork5 People arn't living in shot pellets though. Good for your country in taking the step to protect the environment even if the threat is yet unproven, but don't expect all countries to do so just because you did. Some countries populations don't like giving regulatory controll to the government because they A never give it back, and B usually run an alterior agenda with it. Americans don't trust their government to responsibly ban types of shot. Particularly the EPA.
@CitrusLizard Then make sure public opinion doesn't turn against you because public opinion is what matters in this case, not government. Government only works when people want to be governed.
@blork5 Not in the U.S. it dosn't. I don't know what country you're in but the U.S. government is concerned about public opinion only in the 2 months before their election. We have a very corrupt government here.
@blork5 We had a guy try step 2 and the government killed him, his wife and his dog. The incident is Called Ruby ridge. It's not soo bad of a government as to overthrow it, but it's one that is incredibly irritating and debilitating. Majority of Americans don't care enough to vote, but people will yell when they see someone like our government stepping on something they see as fun. Is it logical, probably not, but nothing with politics is.
@blork5 There is a difference between happy and apathetic. A recent poll had 80% of those asked saying they thought the government was incompetent on financial issues, which is a big voter, but every year about 36% of the population actually votes. People have become indifferent towards the bullshit, they don't like it, but they've resigned to the fact that it isn't going to change. And this government is stupid enough to kill everyone and think things are better.
@blork5 Different culture and a different government. The people in the U.S. are not repressed like the people of the Middle East. We are however not happy. Plus we have a constitution and do not beleive violence is the answer here. It will change, but only when people get fed up enough to vote. The only time revolution is justified by our constitution is when the government becomes tyranical, it's incompetent now, but not tyranical.
@blork5 What they are refering to is a different point. If the government becomes soo tyranical that it must be overthrown then the guns will be useful. However we are not at that point. The government may have bigger guns, but a rebelling people has far more will power, and the American military will never turn on the people. It would be a bloodless revolution in my opinion, but having a gun ensures there is not a blood bath by politicians who can find a fanatical few to pull the trigger.
@celestialobserver I don't remember what I said before, so I'm not sure what your reply means, but I'm just going to say again, nature is a hardy gal.
@CitrusLizard You were referring to the fact that out government hasn't really done anything to warrant armed revolution yet, that they're just incompetent. According to youtube, you said that five months ago. In light of recent events in Washington, I was wondering if that opinion has changed.

What strikes me is that every single piece of legislation that affects hunters and shooters gets interpretted as a move against gun ownership.
If they ban corrosive primers it is to make ammunition more expensive and to take your guns away.
If they ban non-corrosive primers it is to make sure guns rust more easily and to take your guns away.

I am not a greenie but knowingly poisoning your own habitat seems kinda stupid.
Reminds me of yeast eventually poisining itself with the alcohol it produced.
blork5 7 months ago
@blork5 It's not poisioning it though. It would literally require them to have many many more times the ammount of lead on the surface being disolved into the water to have much effect at all on the trees.
CitrusLizard 7 months ago
@CitrusLizard lead oxidizes in the air and water and becomes the very poisenous white lead (leadoxide).
If the lead of thousands of shotguncartridges gets dispersed over a hunting ground you get a real problem.
Steel shot is just as effective without the poisenous side effects.
blork5 7 months ago
@blork5 Lead shot has been shot in the millions over hunting grounds and the only ones raising a problem with that are the environmentalists who happen to be anti gun. CitrusLizard 7 months ago
@CitrusLizard lead is not only in the water it is also in the food chain where you can't filter is out.
And as i said earlier. Some gun owners have this fixed idee that all legislation is trying to take their guns away.:
If they ban corrosive primers it is to make ammunition more expensive and to take your guns away.
If they ban non-corrosive primers it is to make sure guns rust more easily and to take your guns away.
blork5 7 months ago

CitrusLizard 7 months ago
@CitrusLizard The banning of some sort of primers was hypothetical and served as an example of the typical reaction of some gun folks.
Legislation concerning guns always gets interpreted :"they are gonna take our guns away".
Which in case of lead shot is pretty ridiculous as I showed you (lead is banned in a whole lot of other products because of its toxic nature)
blork5 7 months ago
@blork5 People arn't living in shot pellets though. Good for your country in taking the step to protect the environment even if the threat is yet unproven, but don't expect all countries to do so just because you did. @CitrusLizard If you want to get rid of government.
Soft step:
1) Civil disobedience.
Hard steps:
1) Burn your identification and identification you have of others.
2) Burn your tax bill and other government issued documents.
3) Burn all government printed money (this is the hardest step but it wrecks any government in any shape or form).
This only works if a majority wants to get rid of a government.
Guns generally only complicate matters and are only usefull for personal defense.
blork5 7 months ago
@blork5 We had a guy try step 2 and the government killed him, his wife and his dog. The incident is Called Ruby ridge. CitrusLizard 7 months ago
@CitrusLizard if everybody carries out these steps the government has to kill everybody. Which is kinda counterproductive.
"Majority of Americans don't care enough to vote,"
So what's the problem? If people don't care they are content with their government. Simple.
blork5 7 months ago
@blork5 There is a difference between happy and apathetic. @CitrusLizard "Plus we have a constitution and do not beleive violence is the answer here."
One of the many points some gun folks bring up is they need guns to be able to overthrow government with them (seems violent)
I always thought this arguement was pretty silly because the government always has bigger guns
You can only break a government on it's weakest links (the points I gave).
I see guns rather as a personal defense tool in times of disstress, not a primary tool to overthrow government.
blork5 7 months ago
@blork5 What they are refering to is a different point. If the government becomes soo tyranical that it must be overthrown then the guns will be useful. However we are not at that point.
