okay look travis is a good drummer. but Tony Royster is better in every way. ppl are just blinded by travis' guts and ego. they dont look at the talent. and they prolly dont even play drums.
sorry to all the drummers that keep being compared to every drummer that ever lived. You can't compare drummers to each other they all have quality for the style of drumming that they play. I wouldn't compare anybody to Joey or Travis or Portnoy because they all have their place in their chosen style of music. So to all the haters, shut up and enjoy the music.
@DrumChannelOfficial what do you guys use for the overhead angles is a special type of tripod or a rig you guys made please reply i really want to know
@Aprosperitis Seriously? Who are you to generalize Americans? People like you are the reason there is so much senseless hate in this world. Your the real asshole.
@Aprosperitis Don't worry, not all of us Americans are stupid. Unfortunately only the stupid ones go around on youtube and tell everyone that travis barker is the greatest drummer the worlds ever seen.
@Aprosperitis dude leave jj out of that lol, barker is the guy all about bling and fame, joey just makes tracks for slipknot and does guitars for murder dolls
To get really good- practice failing at something for years, and studying what you don't understand; until you have no more confidence in yourself, until you break your equipment in frustration and want to give up, followed by people telling you you suck ....then start again. Repeat at least twice.
To the guy that said that he is better than travis barker.. obviously you haven't looked at all of travis' solo's and music.. he is a great drummer no doubt but i do not think he is better than travis..
@treypeezy100 Tony can do all of what Travis can do and much more. I don't see Travis busting out various rudiments with extreme accuracy and speed like they're singles like Tony does to be honest. I'm sure 99% of people would agree if you put them both behind their respective kits in the same room for a drum battle, Tony would eat Travis alive. Just saying is all.
@treypeezy100 if you honestly believe that, then you obviously know very little about percussion. travis has absolutely no feel for the drums because he's bred to beat the shit out of the drum, limiting his dynamic range. he also displays ability in what, 2 rudiments? anyone can do a single stroke roll.
@treypeezy100 even tony royster's video from when he was a child is better than travis. You clearly cant compare an awesome jazz drummer like tony royster to what... travis? seriously?
@chilly2829 - A great place to start is with Drum Channel's full curriculum of technique classes on Drum Channel. Takes you through the fundamental all the way to advanced skills. Check it out and keep on practicing!!
@chilly2829 you can get whatever books you want, what ever teachers you want, but the bottom line is PRACTICE and LISTEN. do those as much as you can!!
@chilly2829 Lies. Listen to your favourite music, pick up on rhythms and intricacies. Watch your favourite drummers, watch and listen to their techniques. Always keep practicing, never lose enthusiasm. Be sensible, start small and pick something out, like if there's a rhythm you love but cant get the hang of it, break it down and keep practicing. Lessons, in my view, are so restrictive, once you get the basic techniques down, it's all about growth as a musician.
@chilly2829 here's what you ACTUALLY need to do. buy a metronome, a marching band rudiment book and practice for at least an hour a day. any time you practice anything should be to a metronome with a variety of dynamics. start everything slow and work your speed up gradually, get the sticking perfect. learn the moeller technique and proper stick grip. those are the essential tips for perfect practice. don't forget, tony royster jr IS a prodigy, don't expect to play his shit within a year or two
its nice to remind drummers on the history of playing drums....but seriuos it gets really old really fast....next time you want to school someone dont
Those of you that really think he can't play or think he lacks feel, why is he on here, why does he have dvd's to his credit why does he have an international gig, matter fact why r we even talking about him? yeah i think I've proven my point. If you're talking about Dave Lombardo and Vinnie Paul, they don't even deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as Thomas Lang, let alone be compared to Tony Royster Jr. I respect what those guys do and I'm not trying to discredit them, but they're not even on the same planet as Tony and Thomas.
@CGreenC I believe (or hope) The ChiFlows meant Vinnie Colaiuta and Dave Weckl, which indeed are two monsterdrummers, in case he meant Lombardo and paul, you are right.
