SUPER EASY! Its obvious. You just gotta play close attention to the phrasing, like most riddles, as xKennyPLx said. Carl said "Let me take my shoes off before I jump over them". When he said "THEM" he meant the shoes! ar jumped over the shoes, not the chairs!!

This one was stupid. By no means is jumping over shoes magnificent, unless your an ant or an elephant. The only way this riddle makes sense is that the setting up of the chairs was the jump, as in 'I bet you can't make this jump', not the actual jump itself. When he set up the chairs, he made a magnificent 'jump', yet couldn't jump over them.

It could so happen that carl jumped over each of the chairs, and collectively referred to the chairs as "them". "he didn't make it over the chairs" later referred to them as a whole.
