okay, i lived in the north for 14 years and now i live in the south. i'm not a yankee or a rebel, i will join sides with whoever is right. i do agree though that most rebels are more polite and are more religous, some yankees are stuck up. but u have to remember that not all people in the north are yankees they r stuck there but they r rebels at heart, my cousin for example. and i agree with all u rebels, nobama!!

I'm not even going to get into the racial implications that are inherent in virtually anything to do with the "confederate rebel" way of life. You can make all the "Heritage not Hate" stickers you want, but the confederate flag stirs negative emotions in every african american heart. A lot of caucasian hearts, too.

There were blacks in the Civil war and they fought mighty damn hard for something that should've happened. My CHEROKEE ancestors, who you forgot were brutally treated and greatly depleted by Jackson's Trail of Tears, fought and they were proud to do it. I don't even know where to start. I know a good deal about how the Indians were treated. Wounded Knee? They performed the Ghost Dance and were slaughtered for it. I fail to see, however, how the Native Americans have anything to do with my comments. They were fighting for their land, not for slavery. As far as the blacks that fought in the civil war, it is my understanding that the confederation only used them as labor, but were afraid to arm them.

I never claimed to be a historian. I said that it was my understanding, not that it was a fact. I would be interested to know your sources for the "facts" that you espouse. I am aware that there were black slave owners, but I fail to see what that has to do with the topic at hand. Anyway, all the research I did indicates that, although there were a few blacks that wanted to fight for the confederacy, they were never allowed by the confederacy. What are your sources?

The simple fact you immediately associate the flag with slavery shows you yourself are ignorant. I am not from the south, born and raised in Pennsylvania and even a ninth grade history class here will teach you that the civil war was fought over a completely different reason. That and Lincoln himself let the south keep there flags, the fact that it has been perverted by racists doesn't mean the flag still isn't a thing off heritage for a lot of southern people. So please respect that.
