Churches are banned in some Muslim countries... not only just church towers. Again Saudi Arabia has a total ban and Egypt has laws that make it next to impossible to build new churches.

1. The Swiss are not banning mosques, only minarets. Minarets were only added to mosques 80 years after Muhammad died. Therefore a mosques does not need minarets to be a mosque. No?

I agree, even if Switzerland banned mosques, it would still be more tolerant than SA, and one of the great things about Switzerland is how tolerant it is, I assure you that many Muslims recognize and praise this, in fact, that's why many of them were shocked by this ban.

But no, Saudi Arabia is a MUCH more intolerant country by any standards, so the criticism isn't proportional. Plus, the Saudi people don't vote on anything (mostly because it's a rentier state) so it's not even comparable.

Again, even with the minaret ban Switzerland is more tolerant of religious minorities then Egypt is.

Whether minarets are symbols of political Islam is a matter of interpretation and cannot be used to legally defend a ban. Minarets are architectural elements. I could also say that minarets are phallic figures and should therefore be banned because they're indecent. But that's not a legal argument.

Ah yes, yet another Surah 9:5 reference...it's important to analyze historical books (like the Qur'an) in their own historical context. The epoch in which Muhammad lived was one of tribal wars. If you were to analyze that verse in the context of the whole Surah, or at least verses 4 and 5, you would understand that this commandment was about self-defense.
