How is it illegal given that Palestine doesn't even exist as an independent country and never has? The West Bank is part of Palestine, which was renamed Israel.

Okay after WWII, the land West of Jordan comprised from the Palestinian Mandate was given to the UN, it was a UN mandate. It was considered to create two independent states, but such was never implemented nor finalized in the UN. It is a rough draft to a law, not a law it self. It has to actually get by the General Assembly to be official. It never did. So officially, Arab Palestine and what you called the cluster of Jewish settlement were never separated from one another.

When the Arabs invaded the Jewish settlement of Kfar Etzion, the Jews responded by issuing independence for their portion of Palestine, which was the only portion of Palestine that consisted of Palestinians, Jews in other words. Arab countries then intervened and took control of the Gaza strip and West Bank.
