Why does everyone talk about multicore processing asif its a new thing? Has no-one heard of sunsparc? My dad worked on them 23 years ago, And they were like 256 core'd systems.

Great question. What's new is the arrival of mainstream multicore chips, now being shipped by the hundreds of millions by vendors like Intel and AMD. And their arrival forces millions of mainstream programmers to adjust to multicore, whereas in the past only 0.1 - 1.0% of programmers had to worry about it. For multicore to be adopted broadly, the software tool chain needs an upgrade...

Thanks. But it still stands, Ive heard a lot of people talk about multicore, asif its a new alien technology. I understand that in the past its been mainly for rack servers, and supercomputers, But still. Luckly my new game engine is multicore, And i must say game developers should start using it more.
