@kfootballkid True man. I know the turbo is faster but man oh man the supercharger sounds soo nice. I found a good deal where I live and this dude's selling an SS with stage 3 parts in it for 15,000! I'm about to snatch it for sure haha
@Bchaps860 Haha thats how i feel too i love the supercharger whine. Is it a S/C that you found? even with stage 3 i feel like 15,000 would be way too high for a Supercharged, depending on the miles/condition of the car. There are SS/SC's around here for $8500. A stage 2 kit costs like 700 bucks. probably 1k with installation.
@kfootballkid What really? 8500 is such a good price! The cheapest I can find is 10,000. What website do you use? And I guess it's an 09 cobalt. So I thought it was a decent price. Its in mint condition. But if i can find a cheaper one that'd be good. Lol.
@Bchaps860 09 for 15,000 is a good deal man. A Turbocharged with stage 3 is probably pushing closer to 300hp which is badass. I look on craigslist a lot man. Stealerships overprice their cars like crazy (there is an 07 SS/SC for 15,500 down the street...) i found some guy in indiana selling his Blue 05 SS/SC for $6500 lol
I highly dout your old imberissing se-r thats stock would smoke a ss cobalt cause the new se-r is faster than any old se-r and those get rapped only kids that want something sporty that cant afford boost buy sorry but u fail... stop picking on kids with a ls cobalt and saying u beat a ss lol.
@syderpaintballer Stage 2 supercharged vs a stock (non stage) turbo will be a drivers race. Add GM's stage 1 upgrade to the turbo, it is slightly faster. After tune, boltons, etc, the turbo will be a lot cheaper to make faster than the supercharged.
These and SRT's sit in lots all around when USED, people I think know they have been seriously abused. I test drove a Cobalt SS, that had a slipping clutch @ 38,000 miles. Really rolling the dice buying a used micro tuner.
@roleup Typically a turbo will last a little longer, depending on how hard you beat the thing. The SC produces max power near or at redline, turbo will usually have a flat torque curve isn't required to redline for max power. A SC is going to be abused a little more. In the case of these cars and others such as Neons, they just aren't designed to make massive power without strengthening the engine internals.
@cooksta3276 Thank you for the information..I own a 05 TL always wanted to SC the engine but I think I should leave it stock. Don't have the time to go to a mechanic and tune it till it runs right.
who said anything about a camaro? besides you can't diss the balts big bro. maybe the older v6 versions or slow Iroc's. RottenJeeves doesn't know what he's talkin' about, just leave it at that. a vid is posted, you get haters and fans... that's about it. cool to see my stock ss/tc is stronger than a stage 2 ss/sc.
@silifocus84 I said 'camaro' because Rotten's YT Channel has camaro vids, and because he mentions a 'v-8' in his comment (2+2=4). And yup, your stock tc makes 10 whp more than a Stage 2 sc with no other supporting mods. But turbo lag eats up that advantage at the drag strip, where the 2 cars actually end up running the same ET's. Also, my 07 sc came with a $2,500 Rebate and ended up only costing me 20k even. That's about $5,000 less than the turbo Balts!
i got my turbo balt for 19,500 brand new after rebates...mwahahaha. i've never noticed turbo lag with the balt, then again if I'm really going for it I use the "no-lift" shift option so the boost never falls out by more than 10psi. never brought it to the track yet, but i've seen a couple vids stock tc running 13.6. never seen a stock sc run a 13.6. either way, thanks for clearing up the camaro part.
lol. they arent slow. i have an ss/tc and ive beaten pretty much every v8 out there except newer corvettes, svt cobras, newer camaros, and ls2 gto. ive killed many ls1 cars, countless mustang gt's, and stayed even with an srt-8. with me being STOCK.
@SSickLS1 because ive raced one maybe? you idiot. im stock. and i raced a jeep srt-8 btw and it walked me. and a camaro ss is faster stock vs stock a cobalt ss/tc. learn your shit.
i have one of the first 1000 of the 05 ss/sc my motor dyno'd 229 at the crank i have papers somewhere all i have installed is a injen cold air and magnaflow exhaust
@ltbarkley I know there rated whp. Unless these are the only cars in the world that gain power from crank to wheels. anyway my ss/sc stock was running 221whp with nothing done to it.
@ltbarkley Well in any case they are underrated from the factory. They are all above 205whp from the factory..... So not sure how they came up with the numbers but definitell underrated where as the ss/tc sits around 250whp
this is rettarded the 2007 has 205hp and the 2008 has 260hp so I dont see what these people did to these cars to make one go down so much and the other up. Guess they fucked themselves over by gettin a 55hp less 2007 model so they want to make themselves feel better.
KobeForLife, I'm the owner of the 07 SS/SC, so let me explain. 1st, the video details to the right clearly state that my 07 SS/SC has GMPP Stage 2 installed (raises hp from 205hp to 245hp). 2nd, this test was on a Dynapack hub style dyno. Dynojet roller type dynos reads 8-10 percent more than a Dynapack hub style dyno (see YouTube for "Dynapack and DynoJet head to head comparison"). This test was done to show a same day/same dyno comparo of Stage 2 SS/SC vs. a stock Turbo SS. Understand?
I don't like either SS or SE-R but you sir are retarted to think your SE-R is gonna beat a turbo SS aahhahaha dame Crack Heads......oh by the way I drive a Stage 2 supercharged 08 si I luv my supercharger .
they take crank tq to produce more crank tq for 1. I personally do not like the sound. and compared to turbo's, the option of upgrading is seriously inferior. and i also personally look forward to turbo lag.... its like opening a present. u know u can't wait, and when ya do... YAY!!!! besides, i dont need a car to waste power when im idling or just cruising, such as a sc does. I dont want to be wasting power all the time so that there is no "turbo" lag. if i want it, i dont mind waiting .5 sec
I completly understand where your coming from, to be honest I initially thought you were irrititating shit who did not know dick all about cars. You've proved me wrong, Although I happen to like the sound the supercharger produces. I very much like your opening present analogy :) Well Put!
For example. If you set up a turbo car so that it would bypass the turbo, Filter element>I/C> intake manifold> head> Exhaust Manifold> out, then add the turbo back into it but set the boost at 0 so that that waste gate is open all the time, you'll find that the turbo DOES use some power to run. Grated all other variables are the same. Turbo's are much more efficient that supercharges, but they are not "free" as far as loss of power is concerned.
supercharger takes energy from the crank to make its power. where a turbo recycles wasted exhaust gas to generate power. if a turbo is not boosting it is bypassed and would only lag due to 10' of intake pipe. off boost power would remain the same as the same engine non turbo. by theory
Yes, but its a restriction in the exhaust, so it creates a large amount of exhaust back pressure. If the turbo wasn't making boost, it would be hurting power. The point of either is to make sure that you make more power than you loose by putting it in place.
but if your car is turbo you would want good pressure in the turbo manifold to spool the turbo but still flow. its all about balance of things. tq=hp power=grip .............
ss/sc all the way. basicaly makin the same power with stage 2. and it sounds BOMB. love that whine. but for a factory stock car cant go wrong with the ss/tc. love both the cars.
Right on gilesmathewgiles! The SS Turbo is a really nice car, but I love the sound of my Supercharger. So ... I lose 10whp to the turbo. Oh well. Using the GM Stage 2 Kit means my car is still warrantied by Chevy, and with the rebates I got on my car ... it cost me $4-$5,000 less than the new Balt SS. I'm happy!
nothin beats the sound of a supercharger, your car sounds amazing. real good video man. comparing them back to back. id take the 10hp loss anyday for that sweet supercharger sound, an im sure you can make up that 10hp somehow its really not that hard with those cars.
So, stage 2 or not...your Cobalt (which cost how much again?) will get it's ass handed to it, by a 17 year old car that cost $4k.
Now don't get me wrong...I'm all about people who build their own cars, Cobalt, Civic, whatever...I've seen Cobalts that are fast as shit...but stage two is nothing. Like I said before, I'm making your crank HP at the wheels.
But hey man, you like what you like. And I respect that. Do your thing man.
300zzzzz, I'm all about factory stock/warrantied. Everyone knows a stock 300 Zzzz is slow compared to my car. And cars modded by backyard grease monkey means little/nothing to me. I can find someone who put a big block on a lawn mower that will "mow" your Zeee down like it was standing still. POINT: Anyone can mod anything to go fast. So stop comparing your ancient metal to my car and making silly/pointless arguments. I know you're only 23 ... but grow up kid.
Well unless you're too stupid to do math, I wasn't talking about my Z. I said 17 year old car, and the Z is 25 years old.
And as for your slobalt being faster than a 300ZX...a stock TT will rape you any day. And believe me...so would my SE-R.
There's nothing wrong with liking new cars, and factory warantys etc...I was mostly joking before, just playin' around. But seriously, stage 2 or not...I would still beat you. The SE-R eats Slobalts for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Well, unless your brain has ceased to function ... you're driving a relic dude. Your car is even older than you are!
As far as a stock TeeTee or a 'lil old SE-errr beating a Balt SS ... you have obviously been brainwashed by the import gods.
There's nothing wrong with modding one's older out-of-warranty car. I was mostly joking before. But seriously, you apparently like to amuse yourself with old, slower cars. So why get upset by the more powerful/faster new cars?
My Z is older than me...good insult. You really got me there.
And if you think that I can't outrun a Cobalt in my SE-R, you're seriously mistaken. I've raced Cobalts, and beaten them easily. As for TT 300ZX, I know for a fact that stock TT's will smash a Cobalt ANY day.
I'm not upset at "more powerful/faster new cars." at all. I'm just saying, don't think that your Cobalt is THE fastest thing on Earth.
a TT 0-60 time is 6.2 and a SE-R Spec V 0-60 is 6.7. so you beating a cobalt SS turboed is bull bc 0-60 is 5.5-5.8 seconds and all these times are stock.
@300Z31 The 1992 B13 (SR20DE) - 140 hp @ 6400 rpm and 132 lb·ft of torque @ 4800 rpm. 0 to 60 mph in 7.6 seconds and the quarter-mile in 15.8 seconds. No where NEAR a stock Supercharged OR Turbo SS. Now the SR20DE is an excellent base to mod though, you can get BIG numbers from that engine. But stock it would not stand a CHANCE.
@ltbarkley I never said that the stock '92 Sentra was close to the Cobalt SS. I said MY '92 SE-R, with a stock motor (key word being 'A') rapes SS Cobalts. But it's whatever. To each their own. If the Cobalt SS is what you like, that's awesome. I just happen to be a Nissan fan. :-D
@300Z31 yeah I also happen to own an 85 300zx (see my other vids) that I am currently overhauling in my garage (suspension, drivetrain, interior, etc). Been gathering parts for 3 years now and no where near done. That engine had 270k miles on it and still ran strong (VG30E, Im replacing it with a VG30DETT). Nissan has some nice cars (mixed in with the crap, just like any other manufacturer.). However I think my next car is going to be a 2011 Mustang GT.
@ltbarkley That's pretty awesome bro. Gotta love the Z31's style. I actually had to sell mine. :-( But I got my SE-R play toy. That VG is a great motor. Mine had 170k (give or take) which is pretty low for an 84. Also, that's not a bad choice for a next car. The newest Mustang is pretty looking. I didn't really like the '09 body style...but the '10 is sexy.
to 2007ss you tell me how a car with 260 hp at the crank youve seen multiples dyno 250+ at the wheels- OK bud. and youve seen stock 07 sc's dyno at over 200 when their 205 at the crank.ppl like you are the reason cobalts have no respect your a LIAR. and bullshit about your car to others, how have you seen these results are you a engineer for gm?. and UVE SEEN several dyno over the crank hp rating at the wheels... INTERESTING, ANY PROOF?
I'm the guy with the 07 SC Stage 2 in this vid (ltbarkley graciously edited it for me). Guys, please remember 2 things. #1 This test was done on a Dynapack dyno. DP's run well under what "roller" type dynos put out. #2 Whatever the dyno results, this was BACK-TO-BACK SAME DAY TESTING. No differences in weather, air temp's, etc. This is how ALL comparative testing should be done. Considering drive train loss, my 227whp = the 245 hp GM claims, and the 237whp of the new SS = their claim of 260hp.
I'm with you. Thats not very smart IMO. The clutch doesn't deserve that, it needs at least 500 miles on it. My car seemed to really open up around 4000 miles. I am willing to bet if you were still stock and dynod with more miles you would get more power.(4k miles or more)
I lol'd at that too. Funny. I also think it's funny that people seem to think the S/C SS is stock...it says right there in the video, Stage 2. Factory stock isn't even close to that. And after all that, you'll still get your ass kicked (the Cobalt, not you) by my '92 Sentra.
300z31, a 1992 Nissan Sentra SE-R makes 140hp. How's that gonna beat my 245hp at the crank Stage 2 SC? And if your talking about a modded Sentra, don't forget ... Stage 2 on the Balt SS (if installed by the dealer as was mine) is FULLY WARRANTIED BY CHEVY. I seriously doubt (even when new) that your modded Sentra retained it's warranty. Chevy stands behind what it sells. So as I said before ... the Stage 2 Balt SC is a winner.
245 crank? Shit man...I make 240 (at least) whp. Who said anything about stock. And if you need a warrenty to fix your car, that's probably because Mommy/Daddy bought it for you, and you don't have the know-how to fix it.
I don't need a warenty to fix my car; for two reasons. One, I know how to fix cars. And I know a ton of other people who know how to work on/repair the SR20. and Two: I know that the SR20, when properly built, is strong enough to handle abuse.
? you dont make sence to me. if a cars faster...then its faster...but thats because you built it that way. you gotta admit that stock for stock the ser dosent stand a chance. and why would a warranty be a bad thing? its free auto work...whats wrong with that?
My car has a stock motor in it. ;) But really I never said anything about my car being stock. All I said is my SE-R eats up Cobalts. But like I said, I was just bustin' chops. The Cobalt, for what it is, isn't a bad car. Now, I don't like the S/C version...supercharging 4 Cyl. cars has just always seemed pointless to me. The new turbo one is a vast improvement.
And I never said a warranty was a bad thing. They're just expensive, and I fix my own car. That's all.
Ha ha, well the motor is stock...just not for the Sentra. It's out of a Japan-only car called the Bluebird. Same SR20 platform as the stock Sentra, just turbo. Now it is a little upgraded from there as well. Stock turbo, pushing 14psi, forged pistons and rods, FMIC, greddy BOV. But other than that, the car looks completely stock. (click on my channel to see a video of it.)
Yeah, like I said...warranties are sweet, when you get a new car. I just like fixing my own car.
The motor is 'stock' in the sense that it did come in a Nissan car from the factory...just not a car made in the US. It's out of the Japanese Bluebird. Basically the same as the stock SR20DE in the Sentras, just turbo (SR20DET). Stock turbo, 14psi, forged rods/pistons, Walboro 255 fuel pump, 370cc injectors, front mount intercooler (5", fits right behind the stock bumper). There's a short video on my channel...before I fixed the compressor surge problem.
wait did u just say that the ss is the winner because it has a warranty?? haha, who gives a fuck about that...if his 92 sentra is built properly he wont need a warranty
nascar engines break down dreagsters break down and im sure they are atleast as well built if not better than his car
and just cuz he has friends and can use a set of tools doesnt mean that when his motor pops he wont have to shell out some cash to fix it while the cobalt is completely payed for
way overrated? how so chevy stated the ss/sc was 205hp and that the ss/tc is 260hp thats at the crank not the wheels and the ss/sc was underrated by many accounts
On which one? On my personal 2008 SS I dyno'd at 240whp/256 lb/ft. (this one read 237/258)
However, even if the dyno didnt read correctly it was meant as a same day same dyno comparison. The difference in HP/TQ is still valid, since it would read "wrong" for both - they were back to back.
@KSE828 This is power realized at the wheels, GM is advertising the HP at the crankshaft. Friction and driveline loss suck 10-15% of the power, give or take a little.
its a simple fix though. with the ms3 its as simple as high flow internals for the fuel pump. anyways , cobalt ss/tc= best bang for the buck. brembos, fmic , great power, launch control. wow
oh i apologize. just from what ive heard and experience with my ms3 its hard to get more than 350whp on the stock DI fuel system. anyways i like to sit back and wait for someone else to try LOL , b4 i do anything
i highly doubt 400whp with Direct Injection. u will run into pump problems just like us in out MS3. ms3 will hold maybe 325whp tops with DI. and yes over 300whp and the t/ss tranny starts to slip in the mid range
There is already at least one that is putting 375 to the wheels... on stock fueling. 400 may in fact be possible. We shall see - Im not going to be the one to try ;).
Just wondering. I hear that once you start getting over the 300whp mark, I heard that the transmission or clutch is not able to hold that much power. Other than that how is they reliability? I like the cobalt ss but I want to know if it's actually reliable. The MS3 I know is reliable, it's engine is highly rated as one of the best.
same block, but different head - this is a direct injection LNF engine, the SC engine is a port injection engine. Supposedly the direct injection system is capable of 400+WHP before maxing out the injectors.
4 cyl vehicles arent that good with superchargers, turbos all the way. 8cyl are good with superchargers. this was a good thing for chevy to do i think.
Personal preference. I prefer the sound of a turbo spooling up to a supercharger myself. but thats just me. To each his own, they both have positives and negatives.
"and screw turbo, unless u like lag", you're an idiot. the 2008 cobalt ss t/c is the best in it's class on cost, fuel efficiency, lap-time and it's a coupe, unlike the mazdaspeed3 and 08 wrx wagon.
and still if u dont belive think about this take a 350z tt making 600whp
if u did u ur way which is uncorrect
ud go 600whp/18.8psi=31.9whp per psi
no one in the world has ever gone above
25whp per psi 350z makes 300whp na so if the car is makin 600whp the turbo is adding 300whp devide that by the psi which is 18.8 and u get 16flat what most street cars average!!!!
what NONE of you realize is this motor HAS DI (direct injection) and torque on demand. meaning the stock k04 turbo will boost ANYWHERE from 15 to 22 PSI to keep the desired TQ level of 260. now depending on altitude depend's on how much PSI the turbo will NEED to make that TQ #. and if you think this 2.0 turbo has ANYTHING in common with the other ecotech your right.. the BLOCK N BORE IS THE SAME AS AN LSJ(SS/SC OR IRL).. which is also 2.0 not 2.2(LS LT) or 2.4(SS/NA or SPORT)
the turbo SS didnt even have a chance to be broken in yet so obviously the numbers will be lower...break it in to at least a 1000 miles and go back im sure the numbers wont be that low again...only saying all this because i own a 08 SS Turbo and its well broken in and it has been dynoed STOCK at 265hp so ya you might want a do over!
hmm 265 sounds high - was that corrected or uncorrected? Most of the 08's that have been dyno'd are dynoing around 240whp and 260wtq (uncorrected). If you look at my other videos my personal 08 turbo dyno'd at 240whp when I had 3000 miles on it. I would like to re-dyno it now that I have Hahn's 3" cat back on it (and try resetting the long term fuel trims to see if that makes a difference)
That was my 07 Stage 2 SC. I don't drive it much so condition was great. It had less than 10k on it at the time of the test. Yes, Stage 2 was installed and ECU flashed by a Chevy dealer.
More importantly...what kind of condition was the Stage 2 SS-SC? And was it installed and reprogrammed by GM?
As a side note...the power on the new '08 will go up a bit more as the engine continues to break in. Test it again at it's first oil change and see if it does a bit better.
Used to be able to hear the turbo whistle even in mid-throttle on my old 92 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS Turbo WITH the filter in. Man thats a nice tone. ; )
Interesting.... most of the stock supercharged cobalts are running 212-215 on the dynos while stage 2s are running 250-260 on the dynos. LOTS of vids on youtube showing this as well. Sorry, but I'm gonna have to call bullshit on this one.
That is why it was done on the same day, back to back, on the exact same dyno. It is meant as a comparison on THIS dyno on THIS day - you cannot compare it to other dynos, especially other types of dyno. As a note for you - the person who shot this video is the owner of the STAGE 2 - not the turbo. Why would he intentionally make his car come out lower? This is not meant as a bashing of the Stage 2, just a comparison. It would be a drivers race between the 2 cars.
Thats fine man. I have other add ons beside stage 2 and my car has dynoed at 257. A 10 hp difference between a 2007 SS with stage 2 and nothing else and a stock 08 turbo doesn't sound unreasonable, but im sorry, GM rates the stage 2 as a 41 hp bump, thus making the numbers posted in this video completely off. You can be sure that import owners will be ridiculing those numbers.
I love Cobalts. I think their so sexy. I got an 07 LS hahah. But i'm definitely looking in to buying an SS. If I do should I get an SS Supercharged or should I get the turbo?

I don't care what anyone says, a supercharger enhances the sound of a 4 cylinder.
Sure the turbo makes more power and is quicker, but the blower sounds better.

These and SRT's sit in lots all around when USED, people I think know they have been seriously abused. I test drove a Cobalt SS, that had a slipping clutch @ 38,000 miles. Really rolling the dice buying a used micro tuner.
cooksta3276 1 year ago
that's actually really low for a stage 2 cobalt. i wonder if the intercooler pump was running. those things die at the drop of a hat.

In the long run does turbo cars have less life than a supercharger or non turbo or supercharger engines?
roleup 1 year ago
@roleup Typically a turbo will last a little longer, depending on how hard you beat the thing. The SC produces max power near or at redline, turbo will usually have a flat torque curve isn't required to redline for max power. A SC is going to be abused a little more. In the case of these cars and others such as Neons, they just aren't designed to make massive power without strengthening the engine internals.
cooksta3276 1 year ago
@cooksta3276 Thank you for the information..I own a 05 TL always wanted to SC the engine but I think I should leave it stock. Don't have the time to go to a mechanic and tune it till it runs right.

ChristianFirefighter 1 year ago
i got my turbo balt for 19,500 brand new after rebates...mwahahaha. i've never noticed turbo lag with the balt, then again if I'm really going for it I use the "no-lift" shift option so the boost never falls out by more than 10psi. never brought it to the track yet, but i've seen a couple vids stock tc running 13.6. never seen a stock sc run a 13.6. either way, thanks for clearing up the camaro part.
silfocus84 1 year ago
lol. they arent slow. i have an ss/tc and ive beaten pretty much every v8 out there except newer corvettes, svt cobras, newer camaros, and ls2 gto. ive killed many ls1 cars, countless mustang gt's, and stayed even with an srt-8. with me being STOCK.
Dart00Z 1 year ago
dart how can u beat ls1's and lose to a newer camaro? lolll and lose to an srt8 they are way too fuckin heavy
SSickLS1 1 year ago
@SSickLS1 because ive raced one maybe? you idiot. im stock. and i raced a jeep srt-8 btw and it walked me. and a camaro ss is faster stock vs stock a cobalt ss/tc. learn your shit.
Dart00Z 1 year ago
@Sick The answer is simple. LS1's ran high 13 sec. 1/4's, new Camaro SS's run low 13's. Big difference.
As far as SRT-8's are concerned, they have a lot of power (400+) but they are also heavy. You have to figure in all the factors.
And remember, horsepower alone does not make a car fast. It's a car's power to weight ratio (weight divided by hp) that does the trick.

i have one of the first 1000 of the 05 ss/sc my motor dyno'd 229 at the crank i have papers somewhere all i have installed is a injen cold air and magnaflow exhaust

@Myiq4 how did you dyno just the engine? Or do you actually mean to the wheels?

everyone is getting theres dynoed at 225-230 05-07 i own an 06
ginoSS87 2 years ago
the 09s r rated at the crank 260. the 05-07s r at the wheels n r gettin rated 225-230
ginoSS87 2 years ago
actually they're rated a 205, i own an 07 cobalt ss/sc the turbo's are rated at 265
chevyman151991 2 years ago
@chevyman151991 Actually 05-07 are rated the the wheels 205 but actually underated. SS/TC is rated to the crank 260hp.

@bettermaxim They are rated at the crank. No manufacturer rates at the wheels. But it wasn't SAE rated like the turbo's were.

@ltbarkley I know there rated whp. Unless these are the only cars in the world that gain power from crank to wheels. anyway my ss/sc stock was running 221whp with nothing done to it.
bettermaxim 1 year ago
@ltbarkley Well in any case they are underrated from the factory. They are all above 205whp from the factory..... So not sure how they came up with the numbers but definitell underrated where as the ss/tc sits around 250whp
bettermaxim 1 year ago
alot of coby ss/sc r gettin rated at 220-230 hp stock
ginoSS87 2 years ago
how do you figure that? At the crank they are rated at 205HP.
J30A4V6er 2 years ago
this is rettarded the 2007 has 205hp and the 2008 has 260hp so I dont see what these people did to these cars to make one go down so much and the other up. Guess they fucked themselves over by gettin a 55hp less 2007 model so they want to make themselves feel better.
KobeForLife 2 years ago
Understand?
ChristianFirefighter 2 years ago 3
O I see k thanks now I understand.
KobeForLife 2 years ago
I don't like either SS or SE-R but you sir are retarted to think your SE-R is gonna beat a turbo SS aahhahaha dame Crack Heads......oh by the way I drive a Stage 2 supercharged 08 si I luv my supercharger .
hoodedddrops 2 years ago
stupid superchargers... man i hate those things...
logic2reason 2 years ago
Care to explain in detail, what it is you hate about them?
djpavlovic 2 years ago
they take crank tq to produce more crank tq for 1. I dont want to be wasting power all the time so that there is no "turbo" lag. if i want it, i dont mind waiting .5 sec
logic2reason 2 years ago
I completly understand where your coming from, to be honest I initially thought you were irrititating shit who did not know dick all about cars. You've proved me wrong, Although I happen to like the sound the supercharger produces. I very much like your opening present analogy :) Well Put!
djpavlovic 2 years ago
Turbos waste power too.
Turbo's are much more efficient that supercharges, but they are not "free" as far as loss of power is concerned.
yeliwmots 2 years ago
supercharger takes energy from the crank to make its power. where a turbo recycles wasted exhaust gas to generate power. if a turbo is not boosting it is bypassed and would only lag due to 10' of intake pipe. off boost power would remain the same as the same engine non turbo. by theory
kevinreid 2 years ago
Yes, but its a restriction in the exhaust, so it creates a large amount of exhaust back pressure. If the turbo wasn't making boost, it would be hurting power. The point of either is to make sure that you make more power than you loose by putting it in place.
ltbarkley 2 years ago
but if your car is turbo you would want good pressure in the turbo manifold to spool the turbo but still flow. its all about balance of things. tq=hp power=grip .............
kevinreid 2 years ago
ss/sc all the way. basicaly makin the same power with stage 2. and it sounds BOMB. love that whine. but for a factory stock car cant go wrong with the ss/tc. love both the cars.
gilesmathewgiles 2 years ago
Right on gilesmathewgiles! The SS Turbo is a really nice car, but I love the sound of my Supercharger. So ... I lose 10whp to the turbo. Oh well. Using the GM Stage 2 Kit means my car is still warrantied by Chevy, and with the rebates I got on my car ... it cost me $4-$5,000 less than the new Balt SS. I'm happy!
ChristianFirefighter 2 years ago
nothin beats the sound of a supercharger, your car sounds amazing. real good video man. comparing them back to back. id take the 10hp loss anyday for that sweet supercharger sound, an im sure you can make up that 10hp somehow its really not that hard with those cars.
gilesmathewgiles 2 years ago
Cont'd:
So, stage 2 or not...your Cobalt (which cost how much again?) will get it's ass handed to it, by a 17 year old car that cost $4k.
Now don't get me wrong...I'm all about people who build their own cars, Cobalt, Civic, whatever...I've seen Cobalts that are fast as shit...but stage two is nothing. Like I said before, I'm making your crank HP at the wheels.
But hey man, you like what you like. And I respect that. Do your thing man.
300Z31 2 years ago
300zzzzz, I'm all about factory stock/warrantied. Everyone knows a stock 300 Zzzz is slow compared to my car. And cars modded by backyard grease monkey means little/nothing to me. I can find someone who put a big block on a lawn mower that will "mow" your Zeee down like it was standing still. POINT: Anyone can mod anything to go fast. So stop comparing your ancient metal to my car and making silly/pointless arguments. I know you're only 23 ... but grow up kid.
ChristianFirefighter 2 years ago
Well unless you're too stupid to do math, I wasn't talking about my Z. I said 17 year old car, and the Z is 25 years old.
And as for your slobalt being faster than a 300ZX...a stock TT will rape you any day. And believe me...so would my SE-R.
There's nothing wrong with liking new cars, and factory warantys etc...I was mostly joking before, just playin' around. But seriously, stage 2 or not...I would still beat you. The SE-R eats Slobalts for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
300Z31 2 years ago
Well, unless your brain has ceased to function ... you're driving a relic dude. Your car is even older than you are!
As far as a stock TeeTee or a 'lil old SE-errr beating a Balt SS ... you have obviously been brainwashed by the import gods.
There's nothing wrong with modding one's older out-of-warranty car. I was mostly joking before. But seriously, you apparently like to amuse yourself with old, slower cars. So why get upset by the more powerful/faster new cars?
To each his own I guess ...
ChristianFirefighter 2 years ago
My Z is older than me...good insult. You really got me there.
And if you think that I can't outrun a Cobalt in my SE-R, you're seriously mistaken. I've raced Cobalts, and beaten them easily. As for TT 300ZX, I know for a fact that stock TT's will smash a Cobalt ANY day.
I'm not upset at "more powerful/faster new cars." at all. I'm just saying, don't think that your Cobalt is THE fastest thing on Earth.
300Z31 2 years ago
a TT 0-60 time is 6.2 and a SE-R Spec V 0-60 is 6.7. so you beating a cobalt SS turboed is bull bc 0-60 is 5.5-5.8 seconds and all these times are stock.
mossy561069 2 years ago
Who said anything about Spec V? I'm talking B13, '92 SE-R. And yes, I've beaten turbo SS's on a drag strip. And I've beaten modded S/C SS's.
Oh, and those 0-60 times you're quoting don't mean shit. Those are done by pro drivers, and are averages of numerous attempts.
So no, it's not "bull" it's the truth. The new turbo Colbalt is a vast improvement over the s/c one, I'm just not a Chevy fan.
300Z31 2 years ago
@300Z31 The 1992 B13 (SR20DE) - 140 hp @ 6400 rpm and 132 lb·ft of torque @ 4800 rpm. 0 to 60 mph in 7.6 seconds and the quarter-mile in 15.8 seconds. No where NEAR a stock Supercharged OR Turbo SS. Now the SR20DE is an excellent base to mod though, you can get BIG numbers from that engine. But stock it would not stand a CHANCE.
ltbarkley 1 year ago
@ltbarkley I never said that the stock '92 Sentra was close to the Cobalt SS. I said MY '92 SE-R, with a stock motor (key word being 'A') rapes SS Cobalts. But it's whatever. To each their own. If the Cobalt SS is what you like, that's awesome. I just happen to be a Nissan fan. :-D
300Z31 1 year ago
@300Z31 yeah I also happen to own an 85 300zx (see my other vids) that I am currently overhauling in my garage (suspension, drivetrain, interior, etc). Been gathering parts for 3 years now and no where near done. That engine had 270k miles on it and still ran strong (VG30E, Im replacing it with a VG30DETT). Nissan has some nice cars (mixed in with the crap, just like any other manufacturer.). However I think my next car is going to be a 2011 Mustang GT.
ltbarkley 1 year ago
@ltbarkley That's pretty awesome bro. Gotta love the Z31's style. I actually had to sell mine. :-( But I got my SE-R play toy. That VG is a great motor. Mine had 170k (give or take) which is pretty low for an 84. Also, that's not a bad choice for a next car. The newest Mustang is pretty looking. I didn't really like the '09 body style...but the '10 is sexy.

why are you dynoing cars in like 2nd gear?
demetrios2004 2 years ago
to 2007ss you tell me how a car with 260 hp at the crank youve seen multiples dyno 250+ at the wheels- OK bud. and youve seen stock 07 sc's dyno at over 200 when their 205 at the crank.ppl like you are the reason cobalts have no respect your a LIAR. and bullshit about your car to others, how have you seen these results are you a engineer for gm?. and UVE SEEN several dyno over the crank hp rating at the wheels... INTERESTING, ANY PROOF?
mzdamx3rs 2 years ago
ChristianFirefighter 2 years ago

dynoing a car with 47 miles on it.......lmao
aqmustang18 2 years ago
I'm with you. Thats not very smart IMO. The clutch doesn't deserve that, it needs at least 500 miles on it. My car seemed to really open up around 4000 miles. I am willing to bet if you were still stock and dynod with more miles you would get more power.(4k miles or more)
cotucker 2 years ago
aqmustang18:
I lol'd at that too. Funny. I also think it's funny that people seem to think the S/C SS is stock...it says right there in the video, Stage 2. Factory stock isn't even close to that. And after all that, you'll still get your ass kicked (the Cobalt, not you) by my '92 Sentra.
300Z31 2 years ago
300z31, a 1992 Nissan Sentra SE-R makes 140hp. How's that gonna beat my 245hp at the crank Stage 2 SC? And if your talking about a modded Sentra, don't forget ... Stage 2 on the Balt SS (if installed by the dealer as was mine) is FULLY WARRANTIED BY CHEVY. I seriously doubt (even when new) that your modded Sentra retained it's warranty. Chevy stands behind what it sells. So as I said before ... the Stage 2 Balt SC is a winner.
ChristianFirefighter 2 years ago
To be cont'd.
300Z31 2 years ago
? you dont make sence to me. if a cars faster...then its faster...but thats because you built it that way. you gotta admit that stock for stock the ser dosent stand a chance. and why would a warranty be a bad thing? its free auto work...whats wrong with that?
perdedor3571 2 years ago
My car has a stock motor in it. ;) But really I never said anything about my car being stock. All I said is my SE-R eats up Cobalts. But like I said, I was just bustin' chops. The Cobalt, for what it is, isn't a bad car. Now, I don't like the S/C version...supercharging 4 Cyl. cars has just always seemed pointless to me. The new turbo one is a vast improvement.
And I never said a warranty was a bad thing. They're just expensive, and I fix my own car. That's all.
300Z31 2 years ago
how do you have stock motor? upgrades please! =]
and my car came with a 100k mile waranty =]
perdedor3571 2 years ago
Ha ha, well the motor is stock...just not for the Sentra. It's out of a Japan-only car called the Bluebird. Same SR20 platform as the stock Sentra, just turbo. Now it is a little upgraded from there as well. Stock turbo, pushing 14psi, forged pistons and rods, FMIC, greddy BOV. But other than that, the car looks completely stock. (click on my channel to see a video of it.)
Yeah, like I said...warranties are sweet, when you get a new car. I just like fixing my own car.
300Z31 2 years ago
The motor is 'stock' in the sense that it did come in a Nissan car from the factory...just not a car made in the US. It's out of the Japanese Bluebird. Basically the same as the stock SR20DE in the Sentras, just turbo (SR20DET). Stock turbo, 14psi, forged rods/pistons, Walboro 255 fuel pump, 370cc injectors, front mount intercooler (5", fits right behind the stock bumper). There's a short video on my channel...before I fixed the compressor surge problem.

way overrated? how so chevy stated the ss/sc was 205hp and that the ss/tc is 260hp thats at the crank not the wheels and the ss/sc was underrated by many accounts
NismoZ0598 3 years ago
Ok either the dyno is messed up, or Chevy way overrated the horsepower rating.
KSE828 3 years ago
On which one? On my personal 2008 SS I dyno'd at 240whp/256 lb/ft. (this one read 237/258)
However, even if the dyno didnt read correctly it was meant as a same day same dyno comparison. The difference in HP/TQ is still valid, since it would read "wrong" for both - they were back to back.
ltbarkley 3 years ago
@KSE828 This is power realized at the wheels, GM is advertising the HP at the crankshaft. Friction and driveline loss suck 10-15% of the power, give or take a little.

its a simple fix though. with the ms3 its as simple as high flow internals for the fuel pump. anyways , cobalt ss/tc= best bang for the buck. brembos, fmic , great power, launch control. wow
courtsm3 3 years ago
oh i apologize. just from what ive heard and experience with my ms3 its hard to get more than 350whp on the stock DI fuel system. anyways i like to sit back and wait for someone else to try LOL , b4 i do anything

Exactly.. Let someone else find out where things break, Ill benefit from their experience LOL.
ltbarkley 3 years ago
i highly doubt 400whp with Direct Injection. u will run into pump problems just like us in out MS3. ms3 will hold maybe 325whp tops with DI. and yes over 300whp and the t/ss tranny starts to slip in the mid range
courtsm3 3 years ago
There is already at least one that is putting 375 to the wheels... on stock fueling. 400 may in fact be possible. We shall see - Im not going to be the one to try ;).
ltbarkley 3 years ago
Just wondering. I hear that once you start getting over the 300whp mark, I heard that the transmission or clutch is not able to hold that much power. Other than that how is they reliability? I like the cobalt ss but I want to know if it's actually reliable. The MS3 I know is reliable, it's engine is highly rated as one of the best.
marqedwin 3 years ago
nice vid but I wonder... Is it the same engine in the SC and TC

same block, but different head - this is a direct injection LNF engine, the SC engine is a port injection engine. Supposedly the direct injection system is capable of 400+WHP before maxing out the injectors.

mcromance1 3 years ago
and still if u dont belive think about this take a 350z tt making 600whp
if u did u ur way which is uncorrect
ud go 600whp/18.8psi=31.9whp per psi
no one in the world has ever gone above
25whp per psi 350z makes 300whp na so if the car is makin 600whp the turbo is adding 300whp devide that by the psi which is 18.8 and u get 16flat what most street cars average!!!!
adiosk8erxxx 3 years ago
what NONE of you realize is this motor HAS DI (direct injection) and torque on demand. meaning the stock k04 turbo will boost ANYWHERE from 15 to 22 PSI to keep the desired TQ level of 260. now depending on altitude depend's on how much PSI the turbo will NEED to make that TQ #. and if you think this 2.0 turbo has ANYTHING in common with the other ecotech your right.. the BLOCK N BORE IS THE SAME AS AN LSJ(SS/SC OR IRL).. which is also 2.0 not 2.2(LS LT) or 2.4(SS/NA or SPORT)
thedubsack85 3 years ago
The 350Z doesn't have 300whp. It is 306flywheel hp. Big difference...

the turbo SS didnt even have a chance to be broken in yet so obviously the numbers will be lower...break it in to at least a 1000 miles and go back im sure the numbers wont be that low again...only saying all this because i own a 08 SS Turbo and its well broken in and it has been dynoed STOCK at 265hp so ya you might want a do over!
StepMeUpRob 3 years ago
hmm 265 sounds high - was that corrected or uncorrected? Most of the 08's that have been dyno'd are dynoing around 240whp and 260wtq (uncorrected). If you look at my other videos my personal 08 turbo dyno'd at 240whp when I had 3000 miles on it. I would like to re-dyno it now that I have Hahn's 3" cat back on it (and try resetting the long term fuel trims to see if that makes a difference)
ltbarkley 3 years ago
That was my 07 Stage 2 SC. I don't drive it much so condition was great. It had less than 10k on it at the time of the test. Yes, Stage 2 was installed and ECU flashed by a Chevy dealer.
I'm quite happy being within 7whp of an 08 SS/T!
ChristianFirefighter 3 years ago
More importantly...what kind of condition was the Stage 2 SS-SC? And was it installed and reprogrammed by GM?
As a side note...the power on the new '08 will go up a bit more as the engine continues to break in. Test it again at it's first oil change and see if it does a bit better.
danscudder 3 years ago
Yes, the stage 2 was a GM installed stg 2 kit. As for the condition, I cannot say, but the owner is not hard on his cars.
I dyno'd my personal '08 on another video - and got almost the exact same numbers (240whp), and my car had 3500 miles on it when I dyno'd.

Interesting.... most of the stock supercharged cobalts are running 212-215 on the dynos while stage 2s are running 250-260 on the dynos. LOTS of vids on youtube showing this as well. Sorry, but I'm gonna have to call bullshit on this one.
mdb25 3 years ago
That is why it was done on the same day, back to back, on the exact same dyno. It is meant as a comparison on THIS dyno on THIS day - you cannot compare it to other dynos, especially other types of dyno. As a note for you - the person who shot this video is the owner of the STAGE 2 - not the turbo. Why would he intentionally make his car come out lower? This is not meant as a bashing of the Stage 2, just a comparison. It would be a drivers race between the 2 cars.
ltbarkley 3 years ago
Thats fine man. I have other add ons beside stage 2 and my car has dynoed at 257. A 10 hp difference between a 2007 SS with stage 2 and nothing else and a stock 08 turbo doesn't sound unreasonable, but im sorry, GM rates the stage 2 as a 41 hp bump, thus making the numbers posted in this video completely off. You can be sure that import owners will be ridiculing those numbers.
