Personally this would destroy my knees. I'm not sayin its dangerous for everyone, but some people (like myself) have knees that are more susceptible to injury IMO. I think probably because I'm on the lankier side.
@dp1569 For non advanced trainees thats true- but for someone as skilled and practiced as Pat he is able to load tension onto the legs, hips very quickly and do this safely. Its also practice for the clean.
@ThleTruth nah it dont hurt at all well i mean not at all in the bones etc of course it does in the muscles but this guy has super strong joints bones etc so no this dont hurt him at all and it's actually completely safe
tank! everytime I watch this guy squat he moves so fast I feel like his knees are going to explode on the negative. Makes me scared just watching it. Such a bloody beast!
For those who can squat 600pounds x5 so easily, in all probability they know what they are doing. So the comments on how dangerous this is, needs to stop. I'm sure he knows what his stuff.
i feel like such a bitch right now i can only squat 600lbs parallel. this guy can squat 600 pounds 5 times ass to grass. this is what i call good shit.
I will explain the noise he is making. When he reaches bottom squat position he makes a "pooo" sound with his mouth when he starts exhaling (very slightly).
That sound is definitely not him slamming onto a rack, or even tapping the rack. I'm tall, but I have to squat outside the rack because I can achieve pretty good depth. When I use a quarter of this weight, and it taps the rack, it makes a very fucking loud sound.
What you are hearing is that he is slamming the bar on the racks, if you look closely there are bars that his squat bar is landing on. I admire his strength but to me this very dangerous on the knees being he coming down very fast and slamming the bar on the rack. I would probably be more impressed if he did this without the supports being he needs them to slam the weight for a bounce to come back up!
The sound is the guy in the video exhaling isn't it? It sounds like a clacking sound just because the mike on the camera is picking it up oddly, same as camera mikes do with wind sometimes.
@Hulk31483 It's him breathing and exploding you dumb ass. How about you don't comment on this until you can squat anything around 500. Thank you and have a nice life =D
@Hulk31483 Thats the air coming out of his lips... Wow some people are so blind... If he was bouncing on a rack (If there was one there) It would make a much louder bang than that my friend.
@Hulk31483 That slamming noise you are hearing is coming from his mouth buddy. As he inhales... holds his breath and then drives pushing through his exhale it causes pressure in the mouth, through the lips causing a popping noise. It's just a habit I'm assuming in his case.
What was that 1,220lb "squat" I saw on youtube? The form was terrible, depth like a teaspoon. There's a faction that should change their ways and squat like this 601 x 5. Form 1st, bigger bar 2nd, full range strength not partials. Also seen is absence of tight shorts that "help" to handle more weight. All hail the new Ken Patera!
@LHSHarmon nobody needs a spot with bumper plates. NO reason to try to protect the bar or floor. If you miss, you dump it. Using spotters takes a chance to hurt them if the weight falls on them and can hurt the lifter if everyone lifts it up unevenly. I have seen both, but have never seen someone get hurt from dumping the bar.
@iloveblumpkin honestly my opinion and many others, belts give a false illusion. If your squat for is bad, the belt isnt gonna do squat(no pun intended lol)
we do mostly singles, dubs and trips - but occasionally we bust out a max rep set around 90% or so just to have little bets between us. Pat did 250x8 and I did 200x12 just goofing around
If we miss an attempt, we just drop it. No need for spotters or cage. That's what the bumpers are made for. We have a penalty if you dump - you have to unload, re rack and reload by yourself so the next lifter squatting with you doesn't get tired cause you were slacking.
i am reluctant to give advice to someone whose lifts are higher than mine...however sr19 makes a good point...i used to squat exactly the same way..no sweats fast and bouncing...after about 4 years i developed severe tendonitis of the knees...it went away when i started wearing knee bands sweats and went down in a more controlled fashion..when you are young you never think you will have such problems...i only hope he will consider this advice from one who has been there
i am in no way questioning you because you are a monster. but i cant help thinking that that looks really hard on your knees. im just asking, do you get any trouble in your knees? or does it strengthen them?
Are your lifters competing this year? I'd love to see some vids of competitions, crazy strength, I wish there was an oly gym/coach like you are doing there where I live.

Do the strong guys at the gym all squat with normal OL weightlifting bars? They seem as limp as a noodle loaded to 300kg or thereabouts.

@thesku11s That's what happens with normal OL bars. look at the bar oscillation on Rezazadeh's 263kg C&J. The bars bend pretty bad at 250.
