I love Elfman's music for "Spider-Man 1 & 2", his music played the heart of the characters, and also the heart of NYC. Whenever I go into the city and I play the score I feel a connection with the films. Elfman's music just worked!!!
u know? its not until i see ur video that i realize that....maybe they did this on purpose? the responsibility theme (which is my absolute favorite song of the movies) seems to mainly play at a point where peter is being conflicted with, of course, responsibility. in spiderman 3 peter was being really irresponsible the whole movie pretty much up until the part that they actually played it for the 1st time.
I thought that the 3rd movie was perfect. I never read the comics because it was before my time and never got the chance. I loved spiderman 3 and who ever doesn't is an Ass-Hole.
So about 4-5 times "Responsibility Theme", okay I can hear that, but why play it twice in the 2nd Movie, after its already been played, but in a "diffrent-way". I liked and loved all 3 movies, but some could changes could've made, but doesn't meant I won't continue to stop watching it! I'm just not going to see the "Fake Spider-Man" that's coming-out in 2012!
Where I agree that Chris Young didnt produce the goods half as well as Danny Elfman, I will say that the bit where you DO hear the theme near the end of Spiderman 3 really works for me
To be quite frank i understand where you're coming from since you're a spiderman fan.
As a film composer myself you have to understand that as a composer your main goal is to have your OWN identity. complaining about how chris young didn't completely rip off danny and try to sound exactly like him is an ignorant attitude to have, no one likes a composer who doesn't have they're own sound. the point of the score was to break away from what had already been previously done. chris isn't danny.
Thank you for the upload, you're a true Spider-Man fan. You understand that the story of Spider-Man isn't about cool action scenes or punches and kicks, it's about always doing the right thing no matter what and to stay patient and strong through the tough times like Peter. I hope to God that "The Amazing Spider-Man" uses this theme as well. I think it should be used in all Spider-Man films that will ever be made, because it shows what Spider-Man is all about (:
...balance with himself that the theme came back again as the true peter.. so we all should ask us a wery importand question... is it right to use this theme when we dont have the true peter, but a bad version of himself that are out of balance.. or is it right to use this theme when he finally understands thing correctely.. all in all, this theme is only used on our peter not the emotional peter or the peter that are in tough times... (sry for my bad english, its my second language(dyslexia)
i agree with you so much! but you are forgetting one wery important thing.. this theme was used when we passed wery important emotional points in the movie.. such as when peter finaly ended Mr. Osbourne.. but in the third movie.. peters character took a step back from who he really was, and became this emo version of himself... by then he also took a step away from responsibility.. it wasn't before in the end when he came to rescue Mary Jane, that the true peter finally came back, in balance
Christopher Young did an amazing job considering what he was given to work with. He did his best to do the film justice with his music and that is what's most important <3
I just had a thought there, maybe he had dropped the theme because Peter was getting a little careless and big headed with the whole superhero thing, and maybe it came back at the end because he remembered why he started doing it in the first place.
@jayd4ever I'm sorry..but iron man 1, blows spider man COMPLETELY out of the water. Captain america anyone? Thor! Lets look at some older ones. Batman begins, X-men 1, OR 2! Here is one most wont remember, DARKMAN! Same guy, MANY times better.
If a guy desides to put his hair a bit differently and to wear black, that doesnt freakin mean he's EMO. You obviously dont know what you are talking about. Emos are sad-oh, how about cut myself-kinda people. They see EVERYTHING black. Its NOT cause someone desides to wear BLACK that the person is EMO. That word is used too often in wrong situations. DONT BE THE VICTIM OF YOUR OWN SHALLOW BEHAVIOUR! I dont feel bad for emos, I just dont like it when people are called something they are not!
I think this vid was great but very unnecessary! The third film was all about darkness. The fact that this wonderful theme was played only so close to the ending of the movie, made it 3 times more powerful! That moment was epic. So I disagree that it wasnt used enough. I believe they played the theme on the best moment available. But anyway nice vid.
it is a great theme and was lacking in the 3rd one but it did make sense it was missing in most bits mainly because the 3rd film involves peter going against his responsibility (not by choice under the black suit influence) so he is not using his responsibility until the scene where he goes back to the old ways and pulls his normal spider man suit out of the case which is why i feel it is slightly better because the return of the theme at this point gives it more emotion and responsibility
You hit the nail on the head. Perfect assessment. I wish they would release an extended version of the responsibility theme. It is addictive. I too could not stop thinking of it or humming it after seeing Spider-Man 2. Would it be possible to compile just that music into a video? Thanks!
Maybe Chris waited until the ending to put in the responsibility theme because he wanted to show that Peter forgot all about responsibility untill that part when he saw the violence on T.V.
While I agree that it should have been used more, be happy it was used at all. Be happy the themes were used at all, and especially for the ending. He came up with new songs (which were all good) but he stayed with all the old ones too. As for the emo thing, lol. No. There is no eyeliner aside from anything that any actor has to wear (just look at the close up of his eye in the mansion fight) and the hair didn't mean he was emo. Emos don't dance around and act like badasses.

hi there I really liked your talk and your passion which has infected me I watch a film every night and I am aware of the film score but just let the music do its work and carry me without thinking about it - I thought that I was more interested by the processes and dynamics of the storyline but I get what you are saying and t your enthusiasm has given me pause for thought

I don't know why people are so bothered by Sandman in Spider-Man 3, I loved the Sandman character. He's my favorite villian in the comics. Thomas Haden Church played him excellent. I think Venom is wut ruined Spider-Man 3. I love Elfman's score & Young' score. Both created the emotion and completed the film all together.
You didnt have to express yourself that exaggeratedly (moving with your hand while talking about a theme and change your facial expression so intensively ) you didnt have to do it but you did. Thats why I want to stomp your balls into puree.
Examples:
You facial expression after hearing a sample of the first theme...its like you enter and exit your own little world.
When I was watching SM3 in theaters and Young skipped through a huge chunk of the original opening music, my jaw literally dropped. That really got me upset, but still sort of injoyed the rest of it.
Yeah, I noticed it missing the first time I saw Spider-Man 3 in theaters. It was also annoying how they skipped the music that was between 6:16 and 6:17.
It sounds like it was a decision based on the buildup of the movie. Doing it too soon in the movie would have added too much sympathy, and the beginning of the movie is all about Peter trying to change himself. they needed a more sinister sound to fit the occasion. Not saying it couldn't have used it in the ending, but it makes sense with the flow of this sequel.
I think the one with the train is when Peter is being carried by a bunch of people after stopping the train before it fell. But besides that I thought something was missing just didn't know what it was. Thxs for sharing that with us.
