it's a tradition that came from "hot" countries, especially in the Middle East and Africa. Where people didn't wash a whole lot, and disease spread faster due to warm conditions. It was originally done to minimize chance of infections, etc.. Nowadays its just a ridiculous tradition.

Male circumcision and female circumcision cannot even be compared in terms of torture and abuse. Male circumcision serves not only for religious reasons but (helps) to prevent disease and infection . It is far less painful done in infancy and the child is not psychologicaly scarred if it is done in this way. Adult men doing it is another story and is not recomended or required by Christianity.

Definitely mutilation of children must be addressed under child protection laws that cover all children in their adopted country. It's that simple.
