Damn. I was totally thinking, "I could play this!" until about 32 seconds when you start doing those uber fast rest strokes. How do I get my rest strokes to that speed? Your rest stroke sounds like an fricken tremelo! awesome stuff. Also, I don't have really long nails. . .will that prevent me from quick rest stroke? b/c I know it messes up my tremelos
Thank you "spanish guitar", If I want to listen to Carlos Montoya, I can just buy the CD myself.
You are spamming all youtube with all those videos that you also SELL on your website... but it's just not your compositions lol =) Try to play your own way, collegue, I'm pretty curious about that! Don't just copy others all your life.
@Wario221 Sorry, friend, I never sold a video to anyone in my life. I do compose, and some of it is on youtube, but you can't find it as I don't tag my name to these vids. When I have enough material for an album, I will produce it. But I have another path in life, and I believe in playing other people's music in concerts.
dude you can Listen to a carlos montoya cd but i personally tune in to watch it being played as id love to be able to play these songs as well. Good luck finding a video of Sabicas playing con garbo y salero or any of the masters playing a lot of their material. Grisha is like heaven sent for someone looking for videos of these masterpieces being played as skillfully as they're meant to be played
@Wario221 I guess the same should then be said for all the millions of people that play Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, etc.??? People play other people's music. That's just the nature of it. Is there anything in life that is truly original? Isn't there a quote that says something along the lines of "imitation is the greatest form of flattery"? I one wishes to be the master, one must first start by thinking like the master. This kid is well on his way to being the master. Rock on Mininocurro!!!
Dude, 1st of all, unless you bear some striking namely resemblence to the evil character in the Mario games, you have your user-name based on a computer game, and hey, I aint going to go around knocking computer games, but seriously, pull your head out of your arse and realise that this guy, regardless of the fact that he plays other guitarists songs (FLAWLESSLY I might add) is a genius, post a video of you doing the same and I will be silent, otherwise Fuck back off to Marioland!!!!
In what you are saying you are completely disowning the whole idea of classical music; in which a performing musician takes unto himself to represent and keep alive the works of the greats before him.
I find great humility and respect in trying to perform another musicians work into the greatest detail and expression, and Grisha does this with such seriousness and dignity.
rather than dissing him, admire his humility and musicianship.
@Wario221 I guess anyone who's ever played Beethoven, Bach, Mozart , Paganini, Chopin, Stravinsky, Tchaikovsky, Vivaldi or Handel should just put down their instruments then? Did it ever occur to you that this chap might have a wider repertoire then what you see on you-tube? Hahaha, I suppose you'd say the same thing to Hendrix for playing some of Dylan's music? You moron.
@Wario221 Man,don't speak when you don't know what you're talking about...if you knew what Grisha really does then you wouldn't have said that.Yes,he plays other people's track but yet he innovates them,he give those tracks his own mark.
u guys see this mans face right? now picture him making the same face and head movement without the guitar in his hand and tell me what u think............please comment.
My mistake. I wasn't talking about "videos", but about the CDs. Anyway, it is not my business, but I was just a bit fed up with watching you everywhere playing other people songs...
Otherwise, good job. But I think the way you play is bad for your back, ask a specialist. I know it's how any "paco" play, but you'd better take a sit for your right feet.
Cya
PS : I'm pretty curious to see one of your composition, do you have a link for it?
@Wario221 Thanks for the advise. I now use a guitar support and it's great. Can play both classical and flamenco with it. If my videos irritate you, why watch them? I understand that I can't please everyone. I do not pretend to be the author of the compositions I play; if you wish, you can call me a classical guitarist interpreting compositions by flamenco masters. As for my own music, it's a work in progress. Especially, since I discovered Riqueni. Type in "alegrias falseta take 2" for a taste.
@mininocurro your falseta is ery good, you should play more your own stuff, i know that your technique is great but with some innovation you could become the next great guitarist, better then paco tavarish!
thanks for posting this.I have been an aficion for decades of flamenco and carlos montoya. I must say I am impressed by your skills at recreating carlos's tone and flambouyant technique. I have my own flamenco blog and shall be posting about you soon. Cheers
When i think that 20 years ago i would have sold my whole family to be able to purchase a cheap fuzzy VCR copy of anything played by Grisha,( actually if my family read this, don't worry, it's just a figure of speech, i would have sold only half of you guys). Now we all can witness this incredible talent at will, learn what a perfect tremolo sounds like ( while still wondering how he makes it look so easy) and spend a life time trying to duplicate it . Thanx for sharing your gift with us...
Carlos Montoya was a complete monster player, he had great technique. When you hear him play on a record, it actually sounds like he is smashing his guitar, really violent playing like ive never heard before.
Up till the 30 second mark I was somewhat worried, in that you appeared to be playing a piece that even I could play! Normally (and this case is no exception) you play only the most technically challenging and impressive music.
Carlos would be very proud! Goryachev is more than a classical guitar genius, apparently he is a flamenco genius as well. The trems are especially masterful.
What in the hell is this guy talking about Aces High for? It's a good song but it doesn't belong here.

this doesn't sound like aces high by iron maiden at all. the notes are all wrong and he didn't even sing they lyrics! I suggest this guy keep working at it if he's going to get anywhere.
i cant find this song anywhere!!! is that the real name of the song? Granadina? someone tell me please!!!...by the way, this guy is just out of this world, AMAZING!!!
This man is amazing! What a pleasure to watch him play the piece. I like this song by Carlos, but the rendition by Paco Pena is perfection that this one cannot match.
Paco Pena is expressive but but does not have the technical level that Grisha has (specially in the fast scales department). You may like Paco's aproach better, but his fast lines do not sound as clear and well defined. By the way, both Paco and Grisha are way better guitarists than Carlos Montoya ever was.
some say ... i want to play like my idol, and when you reach that point ....they say you copy someone ..... i say ... you accomplish a dream ... Soon ... some will say that they want to play like Grisha !
The way in which he blends classical and flamenco IS his style, I believe too many people are overlooking this. The romanticism of Russia shines thorough in gifted musicians like Grisha and if he isn't yet on the same level of notoriety with musicians like Rostropovich, he will be in due time.

Notice at about :50 when Carlos' soul envelopes him....and at about 1:20 when he leans into the upper sound hole to hear Carlos "tell him" how to proceed....Grisha, the monster, so willingly succumbs.....that is a true maestro composition when the music itself speaks to the musician during its execution such that they become entranced by the maestro's will and spirit. Just simply brilliant!!!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Oh my, that was a huge amount of fluff.
To begin with, Carlos Montoya is regarded as flamenco's laughing stock. Frequently going out of compas, and just not the same level of mastery as even Ramon Montoya... not even mentioning the obvious monsters that are Paco and others.
If you ask me, the "leaning" and all that... pardon me, but I think it reeks a little of... show offy...ness. Eliot Fisk, anyone? Haha...
WOW this is very good, I wonder how long this guy practices?! he is very good in all his videos. I'd like to know how many hours he spends with his guitar.
The blues is a form of music i've learned to play in my roughly 14 years of playing guitar.but classical flemenco is another form i've only started.I wish like hell i could play stuff like Granadina, like the Blues classical especialy spanish classical flemenco is played from the soul and NOT from a book.Alas..i fear though my mind plays it just like on here,my fingers will prob never play this.
Amazing, the best I have heard it played. I really am impressed with this guy's control and emotions when he plays, he is feeling the music. I can only wish I could play like him.
Even if it weren't for Paco, Tomatito, Seranito etc..if Montoya was alive today he'd easily 'own' Juan Martin's ass..technically and musically..virtousity is at the heart of gypsy/gypsy influenced music styles..
No olvidar que el auténtico maestro y genio fue Ramón Montoya...please, don´t forget that the authentic genius and master was Ramon Montoya, uncle of Carlos...Carlos was a very good pupil...ragards
Anyone who plays like this guy or Montoya has reached mastery regardless of who taught him. Mozarts and Paganinis fathers botht taught them, but they were not on their sons levels in any way.
vale, pero también a veces los hijos de los genios no alcanzan el nivel del padre, como es el caso...ok, but sometimes sons are not on their father levels, and I think that´s the case...Don Ramón Montoya is a Milestone in flamenco guitar...
I don´t know in the States...Montoya´s CDs are easy to find in Spain in music stores...you can try: flamenco-world dot com/tienda/autor/ramon-montoya/235/
Good Job. I wish someone would post the Maestro,Carlos Montoya on you tube. Lets not for get Doyle Dykes while were talking about masters.peace, bobby redondo
Thank you! Glad to see I am not the only one who loves this music. It's different, and it's romantic. Modern flamenco is great and really complicated, but I am still mesmerized by the honest sounds of old flamenco (if you can call that Montoya's personal take on granadinas). Why think in terms of superior and inferior? If it touches your heart it's great. Simplicity definitely has its advantages, and is nice to experience once in a while.
Awesome playing!!

Haha...

Man you shouldn't be talking... your playing is the worst and most mediocre that i have ever heard.

Would love to hear Don Ramon Montoya, I have 2 CDs of Carlos and although he is awesome his father is supposedly way better!
This guy rocks! I actually think he plays it tighter than Carlos himself!
delboy1978uk 4 years ago
Yes, He plays tighter than Carlos himself. In fact he plays the difficult parts basically tighter than anybody else. Grisha is a monster.

Gonmoca 4 years ago
Anyone who plays like this guy or Montoya has reached mastery regardless of who taught him. Mozarts and Paganinis fathers botht taught them, but they were not on their sons levels in any way.
herc122 4 years ago
vale, pero también a veces los hijos de los genios no alcanzan el nivel del padre, como es el caso...ok, but sometimes sons are not on their father levels, and I think that´s the case...Don Ramón Montoya is a Milestone in flamenco guitar...
Gonmoca 4 years ago
Can you find CD's in music stores? Or is it a specialty item you would have to order? I would be very interested in hearing his music.
herc122 4 years ago
I don´t know in the States...Montoya´s CDs are easy to find in Spain in music stores...you can try: flamenco-world dot com/tienda/autor/ramon-montoya/235/
