Question I thought for slow cooker we are to cook e erything on stove top before like beans, lentils, meats, etc then finish cooking in the slow cooker is this true or all raw foods will cook in the slow cooker?
Do you find that braising the vegetables in a skillet just for a minute or so speeds up the cook time and/or enhances the flavour? I have tried this kind of recipe by both "pre-braising" and just throwing things in raw and have not found any significant difference. Have you?
@Ruth42 I've never noticed much difference. The advantage to slow cooking is the ability to avoid all the extra pre cooking and just chuck everything into one pot ;)
@OnePotChefShow Can i ask have you ever made a video on your take of Chicken Noodle soup? I tried searching your Chanel and couldn't find anything except chicken and corn and this.
David - I made the soup this morning & it is delicious!! I made quite a big batch so I will be delivering to family later today. Looking forward to getting my copy of your cookbook. Take care
I just bought a slow cooker, and was wondering if it is normal for the lid to "have the jitters". It has been about 3 hours into cooking on low and the lid is starting to move a little with a bit of "spitting" of the liquid from heat trying to escape... not much but enough for me to wonder if that is normal or if I should take it back lol. The liquid is only half way up so I know its not from over filling.
yay! an australian!! using australian ingredients instead of 'a bag of frozen veges', and 'a cup of gravy master', and a 'stick of butter'... how many grams is 'a stick of butter'???
i agree with the others; you are a genius. you are demystifying slow-cooker-use
This recipe worked really well for me! It's so easy and tastes great. It made more than I expected, so we're going to freeze some for later this winter. More slow cooker recipes, please! :)

I have always wanted to get a slow cooker, I think you might have just persuaded me ! How economical are they to use , as opposed to cooking in a pot on top of the stove ? Doesn't the food ever stick if you don't stir it every so often ? This looks really good !
@zub1964 Slow Cookers use a fraction of the electricity of an oven or stovetop, making them very economical to use. Food doesn't stick to the pot because the food is cooked at a low temperature (compared to an oven etc) so it's gently simmering away :)
@koabarra I find adding cooked chicken (such as left over shredded roast chicken) is easier. Otherwise you could cook a chicken breast and shred it up or chop it up (depending on if you want large chunks or not) ;)
@OnePotChefShow when making soups, i found that chicken legs are the best at realeasng the full chicken flavour, and i put it in raw, leave it to cook for 40-65 mins.
I made this last night and both my son and hubby LOVED it! Thanks so much for the recipe, I had everything on hand and it was wonderful! Even in the summer, it's a must try!! More slow cooker meals please!! :)
Made this soup this arvo, really good mate. I made this dish especially for some people who came over tonight and loved it. It was a but thick so I might add water next time. Moar slow cooker recipes!
@DrSunnz Essentially, you take the left over bones etc from a roast chicken and cover them with water in a pot. Season with salt, pepper and some herbs (rosemary is good) and boil for about 30 minutes.
Once the stock has cooled, remove the bones, skim the fat off the top and strain the stock with a sieve (to remove any smaller bone pieces) Use immediately or freeze for future use ;)

Looks very tasty and also, very affordable too! In these hard financial times, my husband and I are always looking for good, wholesome recipes to cut down on the food budget. This is just great! Thanks!
@OneFeistyScorpio Getting a slow cooker is a great money saver (and time saver) - you can cook a big batch of something, eat some and freeze the rest for later. Plus there is very little effort - that's a bonus!
You've inspired me to drag out my Crock Pot and make this soup. Looks delicious! You make everything look so simple and not daunting, which I really appreciate. Thanks David.
Wow, this is looks really good. This may be a dopey question, but I'm not used to crockpots. If I were to add the cooked chicken, would it be okay to add it at the same time as the other ingredients, or wait until later? Thanks. :)

Maybe you could make your intros after you cook the meal and show us the result in the intro.
