  • I made this today and it turned out really well! I added some parsley and ground sausage and it turned out like a restaurant quality soup. Love it!

  • Question I thought for slow cooker we are to cook e erything on stove top before like beans, lentils, meats, etc then finish cooking in the slow cooker is this true or all raw foods will cook in the slow cooker?

  • Made this soup today :) gorgeous it was, Hope you had a wonderful New year :)

  • i tryed the soup but came out to thick sob put it in a blender and thined it down will try again

  • @patruick94 Absolutely - feel free to substitute your favorite vegetables ;)

  • That looks very nice... Maybe some cream for indulgence ;)

  • Do the lentils, pearl barley need soaking overnight?

  • @bella4uk No, they'll soak as the cook in the slow cooker ;)

  • Do you find that braising the vegetables in a skillet just for a minute or so speeds up the cook time and/or enhances the flavour? I have tried this kind of recipe by both "pre-braising" and just throwing things in raw and have not found any significant difference. Have you?

  • @Ruth42 I've never noticed much difference. The advantage to slow cooking is the ability to avoid all the extra pre cooking and just chuck everything into one pot ;)

  • @OnePotChefShow Can i ask have you ever made a video on your take of Chicken Noodle soup? I tried searching your Chanel and couldn't find anything except chicken and corn and this.

  • @narutohinataashgaara I haven't made Chicken Noodle Soup yet, but it's on the list ;)

  • I have the exact same spoon as you!

  • I have this in the slow cooker as we speak.... Oh my I can't wait to try it!

  • I have this in the slow cooker as we speak.... Oh my I can't wait to try it!!!!!!

  • David - I made the soup this morning & it is delicious!! I made quite a big batch so I will be delivering to family later today. Looking forward to getting my copy of your cookbook. Take care

  • that looks yummy, with a slice or too of brown buttered bread, Mmmmmmmm

  • I just bought a slow cooker, and was wondering if it is normal for the lid to "have the jitters". It has been about 3 hours into cooking on low and the lid is starting to move a little with a bit of "spitting" of the liquid from heat trying to escape... not much but enough for me to wonder if that is normal or if I should take it back lol. The liquid is only half way up so I know its not from over filling.

  • I should add the FOOD and the liquid together is only half way... I am now wondering if I have added too much liquid though lol

  • I love this recipe and always had it on cold mornings or for dinner , especially good when its raining and damp outdoors.

  • yay! an australian!! using australian ingredients instead of 'a bag of frozen veges', and 'a cup of gravy master', and a 'stick of butter'... how many grams is 'a stick of butter'???

i agree with the others; you are a genius. you are demystifying slow-cooker-use

  • one pot chef...I like your way of thinking. Im a one pot cook myself.

  • being the dunce i'am i thought this would be harder than what i just witnessed.

    ty again. invaluable

  • thank-you for taking the time to help us learn to use our cooking devices and how to cook... I am feeling so much more confident now

  • Thank-you so much for making this video

I feel so much more confident in my kitchen now...

  • Fantastic winter vegetable soup. The smell and the flavour are excellent Thank you very much for your recipe!!!!

  • how many servings?

  • wow nice i will have to get a slow cooler

  • i put rice chicken celery and potatoe. love my slwcooker. i have 2!!

  • Got this going now easy peasy hope its as good and delish as it looks!!

  • This recipe worked really well for me! It's so easy and tastes great. It made more than I expected, so we're going to freeze some for later this winter. More slow cooker recipes, please! :)

  • I have always wanted to get a slow cooker, I think you might have just persuaded me ! How economical are they to use , as opposed to cooking in a pot on top of the stove ? Doesn't the food ever stick if you don't stir it every so often ? This looks really good !

  • @zub1964 Slow Cookers use a fraction of the electricity of an oven or stovetop, making them very economical to use. Food doesn't stick to the pot because the food is cooked at a low temperature (compared to an oven etc) so it's gently simmering away :)

  • @koabarra I find adding cooked chicken (such as left over shredded roast chicken) is easier. Otherwise you could cook a chicken breast and shred it up or chop it up (depending on if you want large chunks or not) ;)

  • @OnePotChefShow when making soups, i found that chicken legs are the best at realeasng the full chicken flavour, and i put it in raw, leave it to cook for 40-65 mins.

  • i thought slow cooker went out 30 years ago

  • @oldbag699 nope! Also great for chilli... im not sure if he has a video of chili but that would be a great idea if he doesnt

  • Looks yummy!

  • You deserve like 100,000,000 subs! people need to know of your genius recipes!

  • Do you need the Garlic? can we do without? ps you're a genius!

  • @ProSkilllz You don't need the garlic, but it adds to the flavor. Leave it out if you don't like garlic ;)

  • I cooked this last week for my brother and mother....omg best i have had in ages!!! thankies ^_^

I agree with you 100% about slow cookers - they're the best ever.

  • 6 hours?! what have you been doing in your time apart from waiting?

  • @marcy300 I got on with the housework - laundry waits for no man!

  • how would it go with vegetable stock?

  • @darkcloud232003 Vegetable Stock would be fine with this soup ;)

  • I made this last night and both my son and hubby LOVED it! Thanks so much for the recipe, I had everything on hand and it was wonderful! Even in the summer, it's a must try!! More slow cooker meals please!! :)

  • wow this looks awesome... gonna try it today. thanks heaps! you're the man...

  • wow. its yummy, today i will try to do

  • So how do you make real stock?

  • @DrSunnz Essentially, you take the left over bones etc from a roast chicken and cover them with water in a pot. Season with salt, pepper and some herbs (rosemary is good) and boil for about 30 minutes.

Once the stock has cooled, remove the bones, skim the fat off the top and strain the stock with a sieve (to remove any smaller bone pieces) Use immediately or freeze for future use ;)

  • @OnePotChefShow

  • Great warming winter soup! Awesome. You've inspired me to drag out the slow cooker now! Thanks!

  • @itsageoffrushthing YAY - I see the slow cooker coming back into fashion after this!

  • Say, how about a summer recipe, you know, for us in Europe? Thank :)

  • @ZivEstVeritas You can eat this anytime you like, I just called it "winter" as I used vegetables that are commonly available in winter ;)

  • Looks very tasty and also, very affordable too! In these hard financial times, my husband and I are always looking for good, wholesome recipes to cut down on the food budget. This is just great! Thanks!

  • @OneFeistyScorpio Getting a slow cooker is a great money saver (and time saver) - you can cook a big batch of something, eat some and freeze the rest for later. Plus there is very little effort - that's a bonus!

  • You've inspired me to drag out my Crock Pot and make this soup. Looks delicious! You make everything look so simple and not daunting, which I really appreciate. Thanks David.

  • @klc1klc1 You're welcome - I'm glad you enjoyed the video :)

  • it reminds me of a stoup more than a soup :) but still looks delicious

  • @johngillies13 It's very much like a "stoup" - it's very thick and chunky. Give it a go ;)

  • my sister has a very similar "device" to that one, plus im all up for soups, so im sure to give it a try, looks YUMMI!

    GJ friend! :)

PS: the "shadowy" beard style looks Amazing. keep it like that!

  • @mazivness I've tried keeping a beard, but my face gets too scratchy!

  • Wow, this is looks really good. This may be a dopey question, but I'm not used to crockpots. If I were to add the cooked chicken, would it be okay to add it at the same time as the other ingredients, or wait until later? Thanks. :)

  • @MrsTillyBattersby You can put cooked chicken (or raw chicken) in at the same time as everything else. The advantage to slow cooking is it's very hard to overcook things ;)

  • looks delicious...will try this even though it is super hot here in Texas! Thanks for sharing. I really enjoy watching your videos. Have a super day!

  • @Sherismiley You have a "souper" day too hehehe

  • @cozzyk I get called the Crock Pot Queen too - but for very different reasons LMAO :P

  • @OnePotChefShow Luv it!

  • That looks wonderful! To bad its 106 degrees Fahrenheit here in Las Vegas, Nevada!
