  • I got to run her. She is a work of art inside and out.

  • It was built in 1941.

  • Do you guy's know that the PM #1225 is a 2-8-4 Steam Locomotive!

  • Does this train run on a mane line?????

  • @pianomanmaestro The engine is owned and run by the Steam Railroading Institute in Owosso, Michigan. I'm not sure if it runs on any mainlines or just the track owned by the Institute and even if it does run, it doesn't go very far! Right now, however, the engine is undergoing its 15 yr inspection and rebuild, so it won't be running again until at least 2012!!!

  • Now this makes me home sick I have fond memories of steam engines back on the 40's. I was told that the parts from the engine in Grand Haven were used to get 1225 up and going.....

  • Sweet Video. Very rare to see footage with the "Polar Express" emblem. They only

had that the first year after filming the movie.

  • How cool! thats so awesome! great video!

  • As an ex CN / S.D and P.C.dept employee I did appreciate that the cars I have worked in as a waiter or steward, did not end in the scrap yard. It remembered me the good time where passenger comfort and service was our main concern.

  • I wish Pere Marquette #1223 is running.

    P.S I'm a boy

  • i live in owosso michigan and yes this is one majestic machine. it is the one and only train for polar express movie. all sounds were recorded between owosso and chesaning for the movie. i listen to the train all week long during warm ups and testing. i live only 2 miles from it. we,re "owosso" hosting train festival usa july 23 thru 26 2009 in owosso, largest train festival in country. if you love trains...

  • what is the song called? I need it on my iPod.

  • Lima works-1941. Known as the Berkshire series. The surviving twin Pere Marquette 1223 is located at the waterfront park in Grand haven Michigan. Only the outer shell exisits on that one. Perhaps some parts were used to get 1225 working. Not sure. 1225 is parked in Owosso Michigan. Lettered special for the "Polar" movie. Book author Chris Van Allsburg is from Grand Rapids, Michigan and THIS is "the" train in the movie.

  • The 1225 is stored and maintained in Owosso, Michigan for sure 100%

  • Only outer shell? WRONG.

True she is not in running condition, but is far more then a shell.

  • Sorry pm, it was my impression it was gutted before the final transfer to the park. At least thats the way I read it on....PM online newsarticle?? Dont remember. So, perhaps its 75% there intact?? Interesting. I get emotional just being around either....

  • Almost nothing is missing. (just a few valves, and some lubricators) and Nothing that could not be obtained.

Most likely some parts of the firebox would need to be replaced, and she would (of course) need new fire tubes, flues, and superheater tubes.

(nothing that a million dollars could not buy you.)

  • got to see her go through ithaca this year

    loved it

  • too bad they let idiots run it. How could they let the fire go out??! Twice!?!

  • Well volunteer and show them just how skilled you are.

  • PM 1225 was build in 1941

  • great job.

this is one of my favorite steamers

    when was this video taped?

I didn't think they put "polar express" back on the tender...

  • This was made two years ago, so things might be different now.

    Thanks for the comment.
