He literally put money in the pockets of voters. He could have started a war with anyone, and still got reelected. Passing tax cuts is not a hard sell. It was bad policy but good politics and that's how Republicans roll. Democrats are always trying to do what's right, which is not as enticing as free money.

In 2000 when Al Gore was running for the White House, one of his top priorities was a "lock-box" that would protect the surplus. When Bush was in office that surplus disappeared. The left needs to realize that the tax cuts help employee more people thus more jobs. While I do amit that the CEOs do use a portion of the money for themselves it also helps out the people need jobs. Without the tax cuts you'll have CEO's cutting the fat; meaning, they will fire people who they don't need and/or replacing them with people who will accept lower pay.
The right needs to realize that tax cuts does in no way shape or form translate to job growth, especially not in the US where it's much cheaper to send jobs offshore and pocket the savings.
There once was a time when the US was experiencing an economic boom, it was during the 50s, and the highest income bracket was taxed at just over 90%.
Tax cuts are the popular chant because on the surface no one likes to pay taxes. However, it's one of the most stupid things to do continually. We are sooooo far past "cutting the fat" that we're now talking about how much more bone we should whittle down. What happens when we've cut so much that we can't honestly support schools fire departments, prisons or police? Who's at fault? Compared to my parents & grandparents, we've become a compulsively self centered and greedy generation.
Would it be beneficial to have them pay the taxes (maybe even a little bit more) while putting that money into grants for mom and pop stores to open up and employee people that way?

Keep in mind, the top tax rate in the 1950`s was 91%, and 35% during Bush term. The taxes received by Govt in 1950`s was 17.3% of GDP, and 17.4% 2001- 2007. Thinking, assuming that cutting taxes reduces revenue is silly, and untrue. Raising them changes behavior, and capital, income hides.

@gibblets17 (i) Social Security had a surplus. If you look at the money coming in compared to the money going out there should be a surplus. In 2000 when Al Gore was running for the White House, one of his top priorities was a "lock-box" that would protect the surplus. When Bush was in office that surplus disappeared. Wonder what he spent it on?

And from what I remember reading, the House bill may be the more benign out of the two, but the Senate bill is very shitty - no public option, etc - and if Obama's weakness is any indication of how things will play out, then more likely than not, the final choice will be between the senate bill as is or no reform at all. That's how things look to me anyway.

Like I said before, forget Liberals and Republicans, voting with the rich is a lot safer, and you're gonna get more politicians of both parties, than voting for something that puts campaign contributions in peril.
So I refrain from calling the Republicans "strong." If you put people in a room, one side will get you benefits and contributions and possibly a cushy retirement, and one side is a regulatory position that will make rich people hate you, I wouldn't call it "strength" to get the first.

The left needs to realize that the tax cuts help employee more people thus more jobs. While I do amit that the CEOs do use a portion of the money for themselves it also helps out the people need jobs. Without the tax cuts you'll have CEO's cutting the fat; meaning, they will fire people who they don't need and/or replacing them with people who will accept lower pay.

The right needs to realize that tax cuts does in no way shape or form translate to job growth, especially not in the US where it's much cheaper to send jobs offshore and pocket the savings.
There once was a time when the US was experiencing an economic boom, it was during the 50s, and the highest income bracket was taxed at just over 90%.

Tax cuts are the popular chant because on the surface no one likes to pay taxes. However, it's one of the most stupid things to do continually. We are sooooo far past "cutting the fat" that we're now talking about how much more bone we should whittle down. What happens when we've cut so much that we can't honestly support schools fire departments, prisons or police? Who's at fault?
