and it's also the sound and feel of the landing gear struts in the rebound/jounce mode....same as shock absorber in car if you were to jump it....the springs/struts dampers unloading to their stops.
That rattle BTW, is the landing gear rotating after lift off, but as the gear is retracted the brakes automatically apply to stop the spinning. This is to prevent any damage to the landing gear bays if say, a tyre was delaminating and say a loose chunk of rubber rotating could destroy the wheel well. Check on youtube, "747 - stowaway view" and watch the rotating tyre stop suddenly just as it the gear starts to move in toward stowage. Enjoy.
What is that rattling sound on take off? Sometime's it spooks me when I hear that rattling sound. It sounds like the plane is going to break up in mid-air! Scarey!
@kb9uwu I thought that aviation regulations state that all aircrafts must maintain 100 percent standard for passenger safety reasons. I don't think even a little rattle is allowed. I don't know I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure when it comes to aircraft safety, those are the regulations.
@Ecka0007 Nope, its not a safety issue. One scuffed tire could cause a slight in-balance. I'm a private pilot, no commercial or ATP, but I know that this isn't a "safety issue" 3 of the 4 little cessna's I've flown have out of balance wheel/tires and right when you lift off the ground they vibrate like crazy until you tap the breaks. No biggie!

@Ecka0007 probably just the tires/wheels. just like your car tires, if theyre out of balance and you go fast, they vibrate.

I just checked the ACARS, and the rego was VH-OJO. The O looks like a D, especially from a distance

you sure the rego was OJD?? They don't use that config aircraft on the SYD-LAX flights
jasonh21 2 years ago
I think it could be VH-OED

You'll be able to tell by the engines. If they are Rolls Royce, it is OJ*, if General Electric, It is an OE*
Nice video by the way mate!
