@SmashCOBamberg As I recall I was able to pick it up about a block away. If you look at the screen grid circuit, it appears that it is intentionally limited. Upping the screen voltage on the 6L6 and putting a better antenna on it should make it go pretty far. In fact, it might become illegal :)
Hello! I would like to know if a slightly smaller guage (30 something) can be used for the coils without performance being affected or does it absolutely have to be the specified guage. This is awesome and so simple with large easy to work with components! I can now play my CASSETTE TAPES or cd /records through this and not have to just hear what is on the radio .Thankyou!
@Thermionman1970 With the coils, the inductance is all that matters, so a smaller gauge wire will likely have an effect. However, it should still work just fine, but some experimenting might be necessary. Diameter and number of turns are the most important, especially in the oscillator as this determines the frequency range of the transmitter.
@old64goat Thanks, Bill. I don't know if you remember when we were talking about CRTs and TVs, but I've done some projects with them that you might find interesting. I'm really busy lately so I haven't been keeping up with posting the videos, so I'll try to get going at it again when I find some more time.
@AllAmericanFiveRadio I might get to it someday when I feel like digging out my transistors. They're quite well put away by now in some box! I call your circuit the little transmitter that could! It's so tiny but goes farther than those junk "ipod transmitters" they sell for the car. Could I modify my AM transmitter build to put out several watts? I noticed you hold back the screen voltage quite a bit on the 6L6...
Yep, if you make the 6L6 draw more current and balance the modulation with it, you can get more out of it. The little Transmitter that Could, could broadcast on AM, Shortwave, FM, TV, 2meter Amateur Radio, and more.
@AllAmericanFiveRadio This got me thinking. The 1-transistor transmitter can do amazing things, and I assume puts out more power than this 3-tube one. Would there be a way to make a single-tube transmitter that goes as far as the single transistor one? Maybe use some crazy high-powered audio output tube, or even a KT88 wired as an oscillator?
Tube transmitter would work. A tube FM transmitter would perform very well. The performance of these small transmitters is mostly dependant on the frequency used. Why do I have the feeling I have just created a monster?
@AllAmericanFiveRadio Don't worry, I won't do anything illegal...I think. Is there a way to make a simple tube FM transmitter? I would really like to see you make a video about that. I've given up on the idea of a homebrew FM radio, but I've seen other people that did it.
bello! bello!! :-) complimenti!!!

The transformer provides how many volts?

This is nice and simple how many watts?
websuspect 7 months ago
@websuspect Due to the simplicity, it is only a few watts for in-home use.

man this just looks awesome ;) What's the maximum range of this set?

Sometime play with a Audimax and Volumax before the transmitter. It responds amazingly to various levels and peaks caused by various instruments.

I hope you build the FM Transmitter. You will be surprised what one little transistor can do. Of course with the last MOD.
