@MrReddog595 Hey Edgar, it's going well. i've got some great kids in my band this year, so it should be a wonderful year for me. Hope all is well with you too!
great job...i enjoyed your other videos as well...you also have very good posture while playing, which i envy. is there any chance i can get your arrangement of pachabel canon?
I hope that all went well for you at the state competition. The big trick on this piece is to edit the articulation marks carefully. Don't feel the need to stay married to the articulation marks that are printed on the page. Also, shape the phrases nicely: let them rise and fall with crescendos and decrescendos (diminuendos). Take care!
When I was younger, I used a Schilke 14a4a mouthpiece for lead trumpet work and piccolo trumpet work only. Some years ago (maybe about 8-10 years ago--I forget exactly how long ago), I switched to the Parduba 4 & 1/2 for piccolo trumpet and lead playing because I liked its fatter, richer sound, sounding almost like a big mouthpiece, yet it is very easy to play on for a long time without getting tired. Check out the article links to my Blog site for my articles about mouthpieces for more info.
Wow, beautiful and artistic sound. Hello my name is Joe and I have a Question for you? What is a better mouthpiece schilke 14a4a or a the Parduba 4 & 1/2 .
Thanks, Joe! Mouthpieces are always a matter of personal taste (& depending upon the application also), but here, on the Bb trumpet, I am using a custom Bach 10 & 3/4 CW mouthpiece with a #25 throat & #24 backbore. I use this for almost everything I play on the Bb and C trumpets. I do use a Parduba 4 & 1/2 (with a Bach 10 & 3/4 rim) for playing piccolo trumpet and for extended extreme upper register lead trumpet playing on the Bb trumpet.
I use this particular arrangement as wedding processional music--usually for the entrance of either the bridesmaids or the mothers. For this reason, I have edited the piece to make it easier to either repeat (as necessary) or stop and end quickly but resolutely at the end of the entrance. I wanted to keep this version happy and elegant throughout, making sure that it would never end in a minor key, regardless of the entrance time. This is why I cut the minor development section out.
Oh what a pitty. Again, they skipped the variation. Unfortunatelly, MOST performers of this song SKIP the most beautiful part of it, I don't know if it is lasiness of learning or fear of producing mistakes as this beautiful part has a few more musical accidents.
Please see my reply to your other comment. This arrangement is written more for ceremonies rather than for concerts, but is beautiful nevertheless. Plus, it has the added benefit of being easily expandable or contractable, as is necessitated for each use.
i play clarinet and play this song all the time but really like this variation better than the one i have i would like it if you would send me a copy of the sheet music please message me back at my youtube account if u can you also are the best trumpet i ever herd
Thank you very much for the nice compliments! I am so happy that you enjoyed it. I have been working on getting this arrangement published, and when it finally happens, I will let you know. It would sound beautiful on the clarinet, for sure!
Thank you so much. Glad that you like my arrangements. I am seriously hoping to publish these arrangement soon (currently working on editing them and on getting my web store up and running), and will let you know when they become available. Take care!
Air on a G String (also by Bach) is also a really nice piece. One day, if I can find the time, maybe I'll post a video of that piece here also! Cheers!
I haven't seen Sergei Nakariakov play this piece, but he is an outstanding trumpet and flugelhorn player--one of my favorites. Not only does he have excellent techical skill, but he also plays very musically and so beautifully.
Thank you for the wonderful compliment! When playing the trumpet (especially something lyrical like this), my goal is to sound like a singer. So yours is the ultimate compliment.
this is so beautiful!! i just got totally carried away... i've been singing this piece but i like it must better when it is just played, and this is really one of the best performances.
Thanks, I'm glad that you like my vibrato. I think that's what really makes a piece like this. I've been using vibrato for so long that I don't really think about how I produce it and am only concerned with what it sounds like. But I think that I use mostly lip and jaw vibrato. Occasionally I'll also use a little bit of hand vibrato or diaphram vibrato, depending on the piece and how the spirit moves me.
Great job! Your tone and phrasing are really nice. I have played this on trumpet at several weddings and hope it came out half as well. I have not heard a recording of any of them, but I was happy with them at the time.
Thank you for the wonderful compliments! I am glad that you enjoyed my video. The oboe is a beautiful instrument too, so I'm sure that this piece sounds great on the oboe as well. The real trick to making it sound nice is to shape the phrases nicely: In general, crescendo at the beginnings of the phrases, and descrescendo (dimenuendo) at the ends of the phrases. Best wishes to you, and keep playing the oboe! (The world can never have enough beautiful music.) :-)
That is such a nice compliment. Thank you very much. At this time, I am still a man. However, mabe if I am really good, one day I might be promoted to Angel. (If I am, I hope to still be playing the trumpet, though.)
Thank you very the kind compliment about my tone quality. Keep on practicing the trumpet every day, use plenty of air, and listen to lots of recordings of good trumpet players with beautiful sounds that you like and one day soon, you will sound like this too. Best wishes to you!
It's gorgeous! I'm a highschool student and I'm playing first trumpet at my school band and I've been asked to play a wedding recessional for my principal's wedding... Great music!
You're welcome, and thank you for the kind compliments! If you have hired a professional trumpet player to play with either a pianist or organist for your wedding, then I am sure that your wedding music will be absolutely beautiful and will make your special day even more beautiful and memorable. Best wishes to you, and may you live happily ever after!
This is absolutely beautiful. I am getting married in just under 2 months. My mom insisted on having a trumpet and piano player. I'll admit I was a little worried, but getting to hear how a trumpet would sound with all of the songs I have chosen has really put me at ease. You are very talented, and I thank you for sharing.
Hey, thanks. I'm glad that you noticed and appreciated that. Most people are unaware of exactly how difficult it is to musically and softly ease in and out of those phrases in the upper register on the trumpet.
Sure thing! well most non musical people have no idea, they also don't know that the notes you play are made by your lips- not already in place pitch wise like a piano, and that you just blow air thru the trumpet and wiggle the valves to get all the notes!
People overlook that you only have THREE valves, so it's not the valves making the pitches its your lips, and the pitch for each note has to be spot-on perfect or it sounds flat or sharp- thats the tough part.
"Danger, Danger, Will Robinson! Hater in close proximity who has no videos of his own musical performances on YouTube." (These are always the most critical kinds of people. Those who can't do it themselves criticize others who can. lol)
I'm hoping to publish this arrangement soon, if you like this one. When that happens, I'll send e-mail notifications to you and the others who have asked about it. Best wishes to you!
Thanks, I'm glad that you like my arrangement. This arrangement and some of my other arrangements for trumpet and organ or trumpet and piano will soon be available on the Shop page of my website. I am currently finalizing the final edits to this sheet music and am also working on putting a shopping cart on my site, and these arrangements should be available by the end of this weekend, I'm hoping. I let you know when they are ready. :)
I generally use jaw and lip vibrato, but sometimes I use a little bit of hand vibrato also (too much watching the great Doc Severinsen at a young, impressionable age!) Some people use air vibrato (like most flute players do.) The important thing is to get the sound you want by listening to and imitating those players whose vibrato you really like.
I play flute, clarinet, oboe, sax, French horn, and tinwhistle and use the same vibrato: chest (air) it gives the most consistent and in-tune vibrato across all registers. I find that lip and jaw cause large pitch fluctuations (hand is impossible on most of my instruments).
Thanks. You know, a lot of classical trumpet and brass players seem to shy away from using vibrato these days, but I think that it really adds warmth and expressiveness to the music, especially when playing most solo or melodic lines. My favorite trumpet artists (who influenced my playing) use similar vibrato.
Because many people have asked me about my instruments and mouthpieces (and other trumpet questions) I have started a new Trumpet Blog that answers these questions. Please visit the Blog page on my website to follow links to my new Trumpet Blog postings. My website address is at the end of my videos and also on my YouTube Channel page.
I found the sixth-grade band book version where they tried to write it in 4/4 difficult. We've played a version of this in band, but trumpets got the harmony.
That's right, most arrangers won't give any of the triplet melody part to the trumpet, which is so wrong! That's why I decided to write my own arrangement of this piece for trumpet and organ. This arrangement makes the trumpet and organ seem more like equal partners in the musical endeavor, rather than the trumpet just merely being the "icing" on the cake.
Good to hear you play Randy! Robin sent me a link. These videos are a great idea!
