  • Never approach the ponies. Some bite and kick. If you see one that needs help, let the authorities know.

The government would not only like to see the ponies gone but the people gone too. They'll tell you thats not the case but what they want to happen, shuttle only to the beach, will drive people away. Please cast your vote for Plan B, the best plan for both people and wildlife.

  • did he get back to his heard after?

  • Pretty soon you may not see any horses there. I have heard credible statements from locals and read things that the government would like to see the horses gone. They say that they are feral, having been left by man, so they do not belong. Legend says they came from a Spanish shipwreck. If that's the case they are there by an act of God. Fish and Wildlife is refusing any archaeology work on this shipwreck buried on the refuge. Keep the secret and et rid of the horses. It's your government.

  • this is a very rough environment and I had a client that had a pony from their sales after they are swum across the water...she was half Arab, apparently they had put a few Arabs out with the ponies a few years ago to open the gene pool and they all died out there but one...it's not for domesticated horses, they should have put a real BLM mustang stallion out instead of a domesticated ARAB!

  • @foundationdressage The arabs have very few genetic problems though so I can understand why they would've gone that route. Even if they only got one crop of foals from them they would've opened up the gene pool and made for healthier animals.

  • Do they have any natural predators or the island?

  • i wanna go to see these horseys

  • the reason why god put that pony there is because there is something wrong with it so some times u just got to let nature take its course

  • @curtgowdysharkhunter God mite have put itt there for a reason but i quess he didnt or wouldnt of made the guy help the horse!!!!So think b4 yhu say anything!!!!!!

  • @curtgowdysharkhunter people destroy the environment so no this guy should have let nature take its corse if the pony makes it out alive its fine, if it drowns its for a certain reason and god has been taking care of the planet for millions of years without our help so why do we have the right to interfeere.

  • @curtgowdysharkhunter Chincoteague ponies aren't native to the island, so they're not there because of "nature." It was a very nice gesture to have helped a horse in distress, especially since he was probably in the water in the first place because of a round-up instead of "nature taking its course."

  • @Akuinnen24 u no chincoteague is asseteage right. The ponies swim naturally back and forth across the bay

  • @curtgowdysharkhunter Yes, he could have been there by choosing to swim across the bay, and he probably would have survived anyway. But letting something drown for as lofty of reasons as not having "the right to interfere" with "god taking care of the planet" doesn't make any sense, especially since it wouldn't help evolution since Chincoteage ponies are decedents from feral horses and aren't a natural part of their environment. It's like saying you shouldn't save a drowning dog.

  • @Akuinnen24 the bottom line is only the strongest will survive and if u save a weak animal that was ment to die, and he goes and breeds with other horses it can screw up the whole ecosystem

  • @curtgowdysharkhunter I can agree with that if it was something like an alligator eating the weakest gazelle in the water. But in this case, the ponies AREN'T a natural part of their ecosystem. They're descended from domestic horses introduced to the area by humans. They have no natural predators and the only thing keeping their numbers in check is human involvement. It's illogical and heartless not to help one.

  • @Akuinnen24 Lets look at this from a different angle, Animals are built to adapt to their serounding inviroment, I have been to asseteage and i have seen them eat rotting pizza, salsa, burritos, ect. I have horses and i no how fragile their intestines are. If horses were to eat something so measly as bad hay they will colick and possibly die. But the asseteage island ponies adapted to there surroundings and ate food from the garbage.

  • @Akuinnen24 [sorry ran out of space] Anyway if the ponies can adapt to eat abnormal foods then they will adapt to overcome the obsticals in their surroundings [rivers, streams, mountains, ect, by the way i no there are no mountains on the island it was just an example] I agree if it was a baby that got caught in rough water then anyone in their right mind would save it. But i do not agree with saving a weaker adult animal when the other horses can easily cross the river without question.

  • @curtgowdysharkhunter I agree with your point to an extent, but in this situation I don't think survival of the fittest system really applies much to Chincoteague ponies, since it's often the fitter ponies that get adopted and are taken out of the gene pool.

  • @Akuinnen24 i just wouldent have saved it unles i were to some how adopt it, but i think it could have gotten out by its self

  • @Akuinnen24 also he didnt hardly help it at all, but he never should have touched it because asseteage has a 500plus dollar fine for touching the ponies

  • @curtgowdysharkhunter Maybe God put the horse there so that someone could get the chance to save it and show that people are still capable of compassion if their given the chance? God has a reason for everything that happens, it just isn't necessarily what you would think.

  • where my pony care stands, is sometimes a cow in the water xD

  • Awww. That made me so happy to watch. Interesting how he didn't really trust the ground when he finally reached it. Nerve-wracking to watch though! I hope it was all right afterwards... Just brings to mind how many horses die that way without us knowing it, though

  • awwww so glad he made it out tho with a little coaxing. :)

  • This is the best animal rescue I've ever seen. Very moving.

  • aww pour guy!!!

  • omg thats so sad y would someone just leave the poor little thing there

  • poor horsey

  • Water pony!

  • that buckskin paint pony at :43 is so pretty!!!

  • @vinzfoolingaround hahahaha

  • Woohooo = ) Happy video!

  • poor pony!!!

  • this was an awsome movie

  • when he looks back he is saying "Thank You I owe you one"

  • i love the herd stallion ! hes grouse !

  • If I were there, I take off my long dress, put on swim suite, put a short rope around the horse mouth, jump into the water, holding the rope at the mouth to take him along with me to the safe shore. I have done that several times in the past. The horses may not die, but the chance is, however, fifty fifty. It needs actually a close guidance steps by steps on the path to safety, and sometimes some physical support to its head or the upper part of its body. My toes were stepped on some times.

  • Ok yeah instead of giving the poor terrified pony a small snack for the extra energy it needed, we will just let it sit and suffer and die of starvation or lost in the current. I like your idea

    [/sarcasm]

  • thats a really nice viedo :)

  • a horse ate my pizza while I was sleeping on that island!

  • @flyfish102 Great comment! Thank god there aren't bears on Assateague. For more on the pony rescue see assateagueponyrescue.blogspot.com/2010/05/assateague-island-pony-rescue-underway.html

  • @flyfish102 one ate my PBJ once and then walked into people and the life guard told them not to touch the horse. Easy not to touch him in a life chair he isn't walking over your towel, lol they are funny little horses.

  • @flyfish102 thats adorable!!

  • I love these wild horses so very much. Good job. What a wonderful video to share with the world. I love it...Sandy

  • THANK GOD!

  • why

  • You' re SO rite

  • why?

  • Because they get used to people feeding them and then they won't fend for themselves. They are wild ponies, WILD, they don't need people to feed them

  • @Jwsdoublet and also theres also a $500 fine if caught feeding the ponies

  • @Jwsdoublet so, you know, just let the pony die instead.

    Idiot.

  • @Jwsdoublet No, just let it fucking die. Stupid bitch.

  • i went kayaking there

  • poor horse! so nice of you to help him out!

  • SWEET!!!!!

  • This my favorite place on earth. I have live in MD. my whole life and spend a lot of time here. Sharing the beach with these guys is amazing. It is funny to watch them follow people with coolers. They learned real fast what is in them. Often when I need a day to myself I will drive the Two hours to Assateague Island with my apples an spent the day with the ponies if I can find them. They love apples.

  • Beautiful!

  • So sweet!

  • Thank You for being so wonderful.

  • It is so sweet!

  • This is the sweetest thing I've ever seen. :)

  • Amen.

  • Well done!. the poor horse must have been freezing cold in that water. Well done for getting it out.
