  • Guys, the 500 is not a sports car, is just a small stylish car to waft around town. If you want a sport car with this shape, wait for the Abarth EsseEsse version, almost 200 HP in less than 2000 lb. Its looks are a modern version of the original 1957 car, and I think the desing is pretty awesome compared to other ultra obvious retro shapes as Camaro and Beetle.

  • You are correct about asking who is this car for? The Civic gets better MPG to satisfy the Eco-drivers as well as the entry-level tuners. And the Accord V6 w/stick would blow the doors off the CRZ on the track. So I don't really get this car. Honda had a great compact sports car: the S2000, and they killed it. The CRZ is no replacement.

  • it'll be decades before Americans understand that 30-35 mpg is nothing compared to the mpg's they make in europe.....over 50mpg has become the average norm over there.....they just don't understand....if you want a sporty eco car, buy a diesel BMW 320d M sport.

  • I've been looking at this car and the thing I want to know is how bad are the blind spots?

    Are they something you can adapt to or do you feel like you are driving a piano :P

  • @koolskater5 - The biggest visibility issue is actually the split rear glass. The seam/support between the upper and lower hatch glass takes some real getting used to and does block a clear shot at cars behind you - but it's the most direct carry over from the CRX. We recommend taking one for a test drive and you'll know pretty quick if it's something you could adapt to and accept.

  • Bisimoto tuned one of these to 500hp.

  • @halflifemasta - We've talked about this before in our FAQ and elsewhere, but will respond with a longer explanation on our facebook page so people better understand the reality of our productions. But know that we have a tiny staff and such a small budget that we actually lose money (spend our own money) to make the show. We'd love to put a video out every week, but refuse to slap something together just to be fast. Quality takes either time or $, so right now we are slow... we apologize.

  • MIni = Too gimmicky (ie PiTy cruiser)

    500 = Too much body roll (lame considering all the electronic stability tech in it)

    CRZ = Lil' too slow, and too many dumb americans think 'hybrid' makes you a pussy.

    My choice = My '87 CRX Si! 34mpg combined on a 24 year old car that's in 'project' condition.

  • @nogunri Yea the CRZ needs more power to make sure the American nationalists driving in their supped up Sunfires and Cobalt SS from cutting you off on the highway needlessly to show you their supposedly dominant cars when all of us are just driving on the highway to get to work. Its not a race track.... Still nice to have some extra power on hand just in case those nationalists in their American cars try to cut off Hondas because they hate Hondas that much.

  • @KeepingModern I don't know if I'd go that far... Cobalts are about as fast off the line as golf carts and sunfires, well, you know... sunfires. FWIW I really like the CRZ, but it needs an Si model. Or enough space to cram a good header, CAI and aftermarket TB in there - really like the rear location battery though!

  • The Honda looks like the most modern design. Honda's from the 80's compared to other cars always stands out to look more modern in design too.

  • I was in the market last month and the biggest problem with this car is the price. You have to upgrade for bluetooth, which should be standard on every car by now, and for the money, i'd rather pay more for a better car (which i did).

  • uhhh... whatever- it's wrong. I read it already. Mid-engine aluminum super car has nothing to do with a craptastic hybrid front engine, front drive, steel car.

  • Why not just wait for the 2012 skyactiv Mazda 3? It will get up to 40 mpg, cost less, actually be fun to drive, be faster and more engaging, offer a manual as well, have three more seats, twice the practicality, and it won't have the annoying stigma of being a hybrid. This car is poorly executed and kind of pointless to me.

  • They both are going to pick the mini cooper out of the 3. The End.

  • Only 2 seats is what makes this a small nitch car. I can't see that selling. Americans only like 2 seaters when they breathe fire like the Vette.

  • IMHO they should offer the "hype-brid" powertrain as an option. They should use a K20 or something and make an Si model. No saying I'd buy it, but it would be more true to the CRXs of old.

    Oh and I say "hype-brid" because back when I drove a stock '97 Honda Civic 4-door automatic, I got about 35 mpg, mixed city/highway. 14 years later and we can't get that with a smaller, lighter "hype-brid", somethings wrong here.

  • @DaBomb31290 Your right, im not a honda fan at all but an Si model i think would do really well. And hype-brids as you put them are just a marketing gimmic to make money. They dont do anything better, except make the repair shops 3x more money when they break

  • I would say that it is a great all around car, for just everyday use. Especially if you really never have more than two people in your car.

  • Imagine what this car would have been like without the electric hybrid system. Yes, it increases efficiency, but it weighs a lot, which worsens all aspects of the car. All Honda needed to do to make this car successful was to put the Civic Si motor in to make a sporty, two door hatchback, and THAT would have been a worthy successor to the CR-X. If they wanted, they still could have used this system as an alternative powertrain, almost a successor to the CR-X HF with the former as the CR-X Si.

  • I'm thinking that the CR-Z is something like the NSX was back in the day- comfort with performance. No one would mash the two together, but Honda did and the NSX was a sucess. The CR-Z though, I dunno really. I suppose there will always be some car enthusiast who doesn't have enough money to feed a Rotary engine or something.

  • @bdub232 I'm thinking it's similar to the NSX in the sense that they bring 2 concepts together that no one thought of doing. In the NSX's case it was blending comfort with performance. And the CR-Z blends economy with sport. Learn to read the entire comment before you claim it's stupid, stupid.

  • I've always loved your reviews but I just wish they'd give you guys the keys to some proper, shouty sports cars. I'd love to see Gran Turismo S vs XKR; 911 GTS Cab vs R8 Spyder; and yes, maybe a little Ferrari y Lamborghini as well. It's time they gave the proper cars to the proper journalists instead of those clowns at Motortrend and R&T.

  • I've driven Fiat 500 and Mini Cooper (base), and am a CR-Z owner. The Fait 500 definitely has a big soul. It gives me a very nice engine sound and I love rev-ing it. The Mini's handling is well and it makes me feel confident to take it to the limit. The CR-Z has a lively setup. It is not as well planted on the road as Mini but it is more fun.
