When you get this big and have many cities, you can do any thing. When you have like 20 cities for troops, you don't really need more cities for it. I have played where i took over the whole world.

Should have built loads of triremes and skipped Europe altogether, colonize Iceland, then Canada, then the Eastern Seabord, then South America then Australia and Oceania. Build loads of ships and bombard your enemies then send in troops to Africa. Settle all over the globe early on and take control of the best spots before your enemies do. Build loads of markets, banks, stock exchanges and then you can buy what you want. Corruption? Buy courthouses.

@Everything96 you can avoid corruption in an empire any size by educating the youth well, a British example of which is the Studio School (Ted talks). Also you could have a Utopian Empire where robots do all the work and the population is creating and or playing with creativity enhancing games such as legos, or ikea furniture or age of empires 2). In times of elongated peace, when Democracy would be helpful, rushing production of corruption-reducing buildings like police stations and courthouses could be helpful.

Also notable, build the Forbidden Palace and the Secret Police HQ far away from your capital, to get the maximum corruption reduction bonus from the cities.

@SomeUsefulIdiot When creating New Game you have to check random locations thing on the screen were you choose your leader. If that doesn't work, the map has not encoded the starting points, choose another world map then.

BUILD WORKERS

workers > roads & irrigation > fast moving reinforcements and big productive cities

when you feel somewhat confortable in the beggining of the game attack a week neighbour (all cities producing military units) so you have a strong, big territory

democracy is overrated, for small countries, monarchy is good, for big empires, communism is very good (gotta give it time though)

@TheSovereign13 I just got Civ 3 for Vista and it runs fine. Windows 7 is generally more compatible with older software, so you should be able to run it just fine. I don't know what Revolution is or how big it is, but just judging by the screenshots, I'd say it's substantially larger than Civ III. Just a guess.

It really pisses me off when the AI doesn't give any regard to making their empires' contiguous. They just grab whatever land they can get their settlers on to. It's why when I play Earth maps I always play a super aggressive Russia so I don't have to worry about it.

Trust me, Civ 5 is TERRIBLE! The graphics are fantastic, but you can't stack units so they constantly get in eachother's way, this applies to workers as well and they often inform you they can't complete their "route to" mission, diplomacy is simply absurd, you can't ship resources to all your cities, trade route only go to your capital, it takes five turns to train a single unit of infantry, and the list goes on! Stick to Civ 4, SO MUCH BETTER!

@Behemoth2334 yes that's EXACTLY what I mean, you very literally can NOT have more than one military unit on a single tile, you CAN have ONE military unit and ONE worker on the same tile, but that's it! Now I can understand some kind of limit but you'll have this sea of military power and not be able to use it because units can only move like two tiles and not able to move out of the way for other units to move in to attack, it's so irritating!

@Jusmar386 Civ 3 had the "waste" crap and I hated dealing with it, so annoying, also the Trade advisor always wanted more, the Napoleonic Europe campagin allies would CONSTANTLY turn on eachother, you could only stay neutral till you were ready, I prefer Civ 4 over Civ 3 but that's fine if you disagree, everyone has their preferences and stuff.

This would never happen in civ 5, you would be bankrupt after your fifth city and half the world would be empty in 2050.

The only thing I would suggest is playing an older civ like the egyptians or babylonians so that you can get an early golden age and conquer quickly. It's the only way I have been able to win in Deity and honestly, being at war during the game is better than being at peace.

Peacetime is very boring. Although when I play the game always ends the same. Spain unites every other nation with itself. I ask each of them for gold,cities,etc. but when they don't give it to me then I pull out the nukes. Everyone declares war and I nuke them all in 1 turn.Although I play Regicide

Usually I play as germany and play very defensivly and build up a super strong empire and get ahead in science. Once i get panzers and Airplanes I unleash on the world. If i play it right I can usually get panzers by 1780 Ad or so. gives me quite a few turns to conquer :)

I prefer to play as Rome. If the start expansion was good and I get an Iron when discover Iron Working, then I start conquering the continent and developing in parallel, trying to conquer the whole continent before the gunpowder era or at least before the industrial age. One thing that I like in preindustrial warfare is that you don't deal too much damage to the cites and tiles and therefore don't need to clean the mess and redevelop the cities all the way from the stone age

The offense in 2038AD in Africa was really fast. Let me guess, you have used modern armor against weak garrisons with outdated units?

e.g., by bombing or nuking cities to the stone age and then moving in with armies. Or, if you have a looooot of money and you are lucky you can buy em. + in addition to land offense you can attack from the sea with marines. and if the enemy moved a major part of its forces to the frontline, weakening defense of the core cities, you can cut the frontline off the core with bombardment and take some cities with paratroopers...
