  • i wonder if he still has that guitar.

  • they had no idea....

  • @bryanthcin Lol that is what the other guy said on the other video

  • @NoobTubre great minds think alike

  • @bryanthcin Guess so :)

  • the best ever

  • @BJZnRPZ if you think he is annoying DONT WATCH HIS VIDEOS!! stop hating. music today has nothing and will never have anything on dmb. he is a musical genius and they're probably the only band that sounds better live than in studio. so if you find such talent 'annoying' than why don't you go watch a lady gaga video instead

  • @BJZnRPZ ouch. stop watching his videos

  • @BJZnRPZ How is he annoying? I think you need to shut the hell up and grow up and how bout you yourself consider stop being a little bitch?

  • what guitar is that?

  • Wow! so YOUNG!!! fun stuff

  • one of my favorite songs!

  • Circa the 1992 Van Ryper Festival he was using an Ovation Celebrity Deluxe 6 (among other things, but this is seen in the video), but by UTTAD he had started using the Chet. It was, however, heavily modified (almost completely reworked with electronics and some woodwork) - probably to achieve the sound that Dave and even more so Steve wanted. The Chet is in the Ants vid. Just after BTCS he experimented some and now has the Taylors and Veillette Gryphon High D 12. See IA for old equipment lists.

  • Is that the same shirt and necklace he wears on the inside cover behind the CD of Under the Table and Dreaming?

  • i love bozzye hood chicks

  • this reminds me of my first Dave bootleg from a show at a frat party (DKE, can't remember what school) back in my smokey/boozey fuzzy/vague highschool/college days haha.. i gotta go play my guitar before I get too emotional

  • DKE baby! Friends from the heart forever! Tau Lambda(Tulane) right here. we love dave. see y'all at jazz fest!

  • Does anyone know what kind of guitar Dave used when making the studio recording for Crash? The sound of that thing almost brings tears to my eyes, just need to know. Thanks in advance!

  • so what kind of Taylor, there are so many :P

  • probably one of his 914ce's. If Dave is using a taylor, chances are thats what he's using. It could also be a Martin HD-28V or his signature model (if he had that at the time of the recording). Then again, it could also be the black godin he uses occasionally.

  • i dont think he started using his taylor 914c until like 2000. he used an Ovation for under the table and dreaming. but i dont know about crash

  • @Longhairedrockr The black guitar your mistaking for a Godin is a Chet Atkins SST model

  • He was playing martins and gibsons back then - he didn't start playing taylors until around 2000-2001...

  • Wrong, he did not have Martins OR Taylors by then. He used LAKEWOOD Guitars. He does use a Jumbo Gibson in the studio as seen in videos for BTCS's sessions, but I do not know if he had one during the Crash sessions. He could have still been using his old Yahmaha. There is speculation that he used a Chet at times, but it is highly doubtful knowing Lillywhite's sound perfection. His first Martin HD-28V was used eventually in 1998, the 814ce and 12 String Taylor in 2000, and 914ce in 2001.

  • he used to play a chet atkins alot back in the 90s man, it cut through the music really well.

  • Yes, he played the Chet Atkins SST LIVE. He played the Chet from 1991-1999 live, not studio.

  • i didnt know we were talking studio, and i know the name of the guitar, thanks.

  • wooow you truly are a DMB fan knowing his guitars like that

  • its a gibson...he usually plays taylor but..i guess he just had the gibson at the time..

  • yeah...you're right, it is a gibson.

  • @thestiltz Defintely not a Taylor. It was a Lakewood M-32 on most songs. Dave didn't start using Taylor's untill well after Crash.

  • dave matthews forever! fuck john mayer!

    R.I.P. LeRoi

  • Hes unbelievable whether alone or with the band. You can say that about too many people.

  • fucking amazing!

  • thanks dave.

  • "...dave is really only looked up to by people who don't understand music..."

Why are people so concerned with putting down other peoples music preferences? Furthermore, how many records do you have to sell before someone will say your a good musician?

  • its not a quantitative factor that decides how good a musician is. it's a matter of opinion rather.

  • @Nwidmann I think the better question is, how many records do you have to sell before you can call someone who has sold as many as Dave has a "designed not for the fellow musician." The answer is many, many more than redkierkant will ever sell in his/her life.

  • he looks really skinny in this video.

  • He looks like Forrest Gump.

  • haha- agreed.

  • he looks like Stefan too

  • lol classic...

  • dave is the greatest musician of this generation. hes also a great showsman, has a natural talent infront of people

  • Wow, you just made yourself sound like a complete moron. Dave Matthews is an incredibly talented guitar player/songwriter, and I guarantee you that anyone who "understands music" looks up to him. In fact only people who "understand music" realize how amazing of a musician he is. You don't have to like him, but I guarantee you couldn't write/play even close to as good as him

  • have you ever even been to millers. god i hate ppl that just start arguments cause they have nothing better to do

  • Hmmm... Not sure why you're accusing me of starting an argument. If you were replying to redkierkant then nevermind, but it showed up as a reply to my comment on my email.

  • this guy is a pretty big d-bag.

  • dude your opinion needs to be re-evaluated because redklerkant....YOU dont understand the music...since the ONLY thing you see in sat. is a girl looking up and dancing....SHOWS HOW MUCH YOU UNDERSTAND......btw anyone who understands music probably feels like smacking some sense into you...R.I.P LeRoi Moore

  • tennie bobber? get the word fuckin right first off....and all sorts of people come out to listen to dave. and yes dave matthews band puts on prob the greatest live perfomances. thats all opinion but a dominated opinion for sure. his music is def. directed for a more mature crowd and for those wanting to truly here good music. not the shit on the radio these days..funny how you let a little girl change your opinion about great music..what a fan you really were...dumbest shit ive heard

  • something about this song that had /has a profound affect on my life... It never gets old

  • Classic Dave!? He's wearing shorts? Soooo cute! Also, loved the acknowledgement of having his 'brother' there for support. It's probably why their relationship is sooo special. Carter's support starting way back when. Go Davey, one of your healthiest hairlines I've seen.

  • @filmtress His "Brother" there was carter. (off camera to the left). This was a blockbuster music at poplar and highland in memphis, TN. I shot this video. :)

  • i went to my first dmb concert in sept 8 2007 here in atlanta piedmont park, wow the best concert i been, passing u2, green day , and my fab rock band queen with paul rodgers, way to go dmb the best live band ever cant waitt to go to another of their concerts!

  • two step...two step

    haha

  • just to clear it up.. thats no chet atkins sst, or a chet at all... definatly a gibson... prolly a j-150

  • Ilmlin stfu.DaveIs the shit.

  • Funny though that yours is not based on fact and rather interpretation (and a wrong one) of what I said. Let's analyze this further. "Dave and HIS trusty Chet Atkins". Mmm. HIS Chet Atkins. Shall I repeat that again for you chap? HIS. His implying the model that HE used. I can't see it any clearer. Hence one is able to deduce the one that HE used as being the SST. Which is not the one he used.

  • can we just enjoy the music. i mean at least we can agree dave is pure genious.

  • Are you seriously arguing over a guitar. Dave plays lots of guitars. What ever. I can see why were all arguing...Go talk politics or something!

  • Yeah I was referring to the SST, the one he used...

  • Don't worry about the fact that it's not a Chet Atkins. The Chet Atkins is a solidbody...with no florentine cutaway. So basically, completely not that one.

  • actually, the chet atkins country gentleman was a hollowbody electric, but this is a chet atkins sst.. and dave did play that

  • sorry bro, this is def NOT an SST Chet Atkins. I own one and the guitar he's playing here and the one I currently own are entirely different.....the only similarity is that they're both guitars.

  • Dave and his trusty Chet Atkins back in 94, this is excellent! Thanks buddy!

  • Awesome, Awesome, Awesome. Thanks for sharin the video.

  • That classic Dave.Hes one short ass hair cut!!
