  • I'd not heard of Lorenzo Tucker until this week. Really interesting and sad to read about how black performers of the past were treated.

  • Bee Freeman is so right. Blacks were always portrayed as ugly in Hollywood films. Micheaux used the best looking blacks in his films, Dorothy Van Engle, Ethel Moses, Bee Freeman, Catherine Noisette, Grace Smith, Eunice Brooks, Eunice Wilson, Hazel Diaz, Willor Lee Guilford, Ethel Smith, Edna Mae Harris, Carman Newsome, Andrew Bishop, Carl Mahon, Lorenzo Tucker, Clarence Brooks, Alfred Slick Chester, Larry Seymour, Sol Johnson, these were beautiful black people that Hollywood would never use.

  • My cousin Carmen Newsome was the Black Cary Grant and he traveled with Micheaux to sell films

  • Tucker looked much darker in this clip then he did in his films.

  • @picposter67 You know in black and white films, especially in the race films, blacks who were light would look even lighter, and in race films it seems blacks were lighten. Now that I see Lorenzo in color, he doesn't look as white as was said.

  • Lorenzo Tucker was so HANDSOME in his prime! Billed as the Black Valentino. Thanks for posting the interview.

  • @dellculookin Lorenzo had to be the best looking man in movies ever. I don't even see no one now that can top his looks. He was considered white looking but both of his parents were dark.

  • Thanks for interviews from two African American Screen legends!
