Thanks for all your kind comments regarding the soundtrack. I was promised a label deal with RCA, but it fell through when the movie bit the dust. There have been many requests for a re-issue but so far, the only thing on sale is the soundtrack on CD Baby..
The movie itself wasn't exactly a success in any regards. But nearly everyone who saw it was sort of blown away by this soundtrack. It found an audience all its own over time by anyone who ever heard it. There was just something about it--1950's music with 1980's acoustics One weird-ass hybrid. Like the ultimate cover song. Only this was the original. Never duplicated, never equaled.
@DaneYoussef Thanks so much for your kind observations. Your analysis of what our musical vision was for this soundtrack is spot on. This score was the 3rd one. I was promised a label deal with RCA, but it fell through when the movie bit the dust.
I know and do you think stuff like Beowulf and A Chirstmas Carol by Robert Zemeckis and even Avatar by James Cameron have similar but modern use of rotoscoping animation techniques? James Cameron is a fan of Bakshi and wanted to do similar kind of animation.
@Johnlindsey289 The modernised version (cg overlay, animation based on mapped movements of the actor, etc) are similar in asmuch as it gives a more realistic feel to the character it's used for, and is just as labor intensive. I wouldn't be suprised if directors who want a more realistic feel would use those techniques. If done right, it really adds to the film.
Well Cameron and Zemeckis are geniuses for their modern Bakshi-esque projects since both are fans of the director Bakshi. Cameron has always been into adult animation especially European animation and Japanimation even the all ages stuff like Ghibli. Do you like American Pop?
Now that I hear lord of the rings{Bakshi} is coming to blu-ray, Where the hell is the hey good looking DVD?? It wouldve been a good idea to release the film to DVD when the soundtrack came out.
I absolutely loved this movie.I used to rent it all time at my local video store. The thought of this movie just popped into my head and figured you search it.Now I'm gonna go buy it online. This is one of most classic adult cartoon movies of it's generation besides the imortal "Fritz the Cat" I beleive both movies are made by the same person.
If you like mature audiences animation, you should check out Heavy Metal, Akira, Ghost in The Shell, Princess Mononoke, Wizards, American Pop, Pink Floyd The Wall, Starchaser Legend of Orin, Fantastic Planet, Ninja Scroll, Beowulf, Wicked City, Fire and Ice, Lightyears (Gandahar), Nausicaa of the Valley of the Winds, Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend, Metropolis (2001 animated), Vampire Hunter D 1 & 2, Robot Carnival, etc.

I adore Bakshi. Makes me wish I lived back in the 70s with his gritty animation style. He actually makes rotoscope look GOOD.

Robert Zemeckis did gave us a modern Fire and Ice known as Beowulf and you can tell how similar that movie was to F&I. Do you also like American Pop?

The soundtrack kicks ass, it's a mix of 50s rock n roll with 80s new wave.
