  • I don't know what you're saying because this is VERY HARD to learn. Well also depends on who you're talking to. I never had piano lessons before. I just learn songs with youtube-tutorials. For starters like me, "Comptime d'un autre ete" was a little challenging, but learnable. "The heart asks pleasure first", however, is completely in another league. And this video shows how difficult the song is to play... sometimes it seems like he keys more than you can actually hear

  • @VSfan88 i never took any lessons either, i learnt by youtube haha, and i was still able to learn this song. Btw ive been playing piano since a few months ago haha

  • @VSfan88 ad i cant even read music :P

  • So simple...so complex.

  • This has been a favorite ever since I first heard it. It's so sweeping and wonderful. I only regret that it's short. I wish I could play this. I'd be doing it all the time, that's for sure!

  • why does he make this look so easy...

  • My friend can play this with his eyes closed.

He learnt it just by listening to it once :D wish i had his incredible piano skills.

  • @kiwi4evapeace by listening to it once?? yeah right!! :P hed be a genius if he could haha

  • I only disliked because there is a end........

  • Just a message to all you out there. I am I pianist who has spent a long time uploading a large selection of HD videos with direct audio for really high quality sound. I aim to make all of my videos to the best standard possible in the hope that I’ll collect a few followers. I’m genuinely struggling for views and/or subscribers so clicking on my name and having a quick look at my channel would mean the world to me, honestly. It won't take a minute and I'm sure you'll be glad you did. Thanks You.

  • Love it <3

  • MAGNIFIQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE !

  • @EnlightenCarly I’m pretty close to telling my piano teacher to stick it.

  • My insane piano teacher wants me to learn this...

    I’m fucked.

  • @psychedelikk64 You can do it ... the left hand is actually insanely easy, and once you get the flow of your right... it comes together so beautifully. Piano is my second study (taught myself mostly) and I had this down in less than a day with a bit of effort :) xxFAxx

  • @WoWMsFannyAdams Aha thanks, it can’t be to hard :)

  • @psychedelikk64 It is not difficult! It needs speed! You ll be fine ;))

  • @psychedelikk64 it's not that hard..

  • @psychedelikk64 Lucky you! I want the piano sheets...can you upload them? I really want to play this

  • @Hakuo91 There's a site called "Take a Piano Sheet Music Break," and in its "Free Popular" section you'll find the sheets under Nyman's name. :)

  • @psychedelikk64 be glad, you do have such teacher. :-)

  • @psychedelikk64 it is much easier than you think it is;)

  • @blsaint922 The notes are fine, it’s just the speed

  • @psychedelikk64 yeah i know, it is hard in the beginning, but the more u practice, the better u'll get :)

  • @psychedelikk64 it's not that tough and learning it appropriately will open a lot of possibilities for you

  • @psychedelikk64: It's not that hard to learn actually..

  • @7Anubisss I’ve only been learning for about 5 months...

  • @psychedelikk64 it's not so hard to play..

  • @psychedelikk64 my teacher taught me jinglebells then threw the entire well tempered clavier book at me, youll do fine.

  • @TekranoXx hahahaha idem!

  • @psychedelikk64 You're so lucky, I would've loved to have my piano teacher ask me to learn something so cool... and easy!

  • @psychedelikk64 no not at all..it comes from your heart 1st...it is beautifuly rythmic

  • @psychedelikk64 That's one of the most fascinating tunes i've heard. Do your best!

  • @psychedelikk64 it's not as hard as it looks....i can play it and i never even had a piano teacher....u see it's like magic tricks...they seem complicated till u learn how to do them :P

  • @psychedelikk64 how'd it go? this was the first song i ever played on the piano. still remember it by heart.

  • @PeterS768 I simplified it because i'm too lazy to learn the whole thing :P It was pretty easy though

  • @psychedelikk64 mine to!! she plays it beautifully and I feel like a complete fool trying to do the same >.<.

(sorry if my english isn't so good)

  • @psychedelikk64 yeah...me too...

  • I'm learning this right now in my piano class, it's the hardest song I've ever playen!! haha, but so beautiful it really makes it worth all the practising knowing that someday it will sound somewhat like this! :D

  • I'm playing this for my Grade 5 Piano For Leisure AMEB exam. For some reason, the AMEB version misses out a section at the start, and then there's this whole other page after the end which is almost all in quintuplets which I haven't been able to find on any "official" recordings. I'm not sure whether it was added in a later arrangement or just not played here. Either way it doesn't end as suddenly with the extra section.

  • Hermoso ...es muy lindo el piano ..tiene una melodia hermosa ..^^

  • 240p......we meet again...

  • @asrraa I don't know why but I found that fucking hilarious, lmao!

  • @asrraa ...what does this mean? :/

  • @MIFSjolly he means the video quality :o it's 240p, it says on the video bar, or what's it in english...

but it's not even his comment, he stole it from someone else...

  • @asrraa is that like a thing?

  • I always liked to play this song but i just wish it had a better end, it sounds so unfinished.

  • after watching the movie i was hooked!!! I bought the album and the sheet music however it is not as easy to play as you would think!!! absolutely brilliant the man is a genius!!

  • 23 people are idiots!

    This is so beautiful :')

  • this...is....amazing.... :')

  • That abrupt ending almost startled me. Ruined my whole damn listening experience.

  • @Shining4Dawn Yeh I woulda liked to hear the bassier section again at the end, im no expert tho :-)

  • 23 idiots

  • Is he pushing black keys in first part of the piece? It is only G# once but nothing more in the scores...

  • @dziedzic1205 It's played in Aminor but sometimes there is G#.

  • @Pianistos but in original music sheet this piece is in C major

  • @Pianistos

weird.. I don'y hear any difference between my interpretation (with the sheet music) and the video... I don't undrstand.. There is only one G# too.

  • this is based on an old scottish tune.. lovely

  • Such an incredible piece. I have loved this music since I first saw The Piano back in the 90's.

  • why is the end cut short?

  • Great performance.... Honestly, I have been looking on how to transfer the fingerstyle guitar to the keyboard piano. Michael Nyman piano style took it to another level. I apologize to the listeners who felt offended comparing fingerstyle guitar to the level of Michael Hyman piano music.

However, I still want to learn how to transfer the fingerstyle to piano. thanks..ed

  • Im 13 and i got the sheet music for it today and ive got the first 2 pages done its not as hard as i thought, just getting it up to this tempo is the biggest challenge. I <3 Piano I dont care what anyone tells me!!!!

  • People who dislike this are mentally ill.

  • it reminds me of when my father left for war...

gosh this gets to me by a whole new level

  • This song sounds like the wind.

  • 21 dislikes? Omg haters really gonna hate.

  • esta cancion es mi inspiracion, decir que solo es muy buena es quedarme corto

  • i only like his music and not he!

  • Nyan'm?

  • @SpiritOfSolace was this footage from the actual Piano soundtrack session recording, do u know? or just another live performance.ty

  • Why don't they show the intro?

Its the part at 0:34 its written in the book

  • I want play like him too

  • Music at its most beautiful

  • Anybody who knows how to play piano I definitely recommend it. Its not that hard I'm 12 and nearly finished once you get the rhythm your in so give it a go!

  • Comment removed

  • this is the original studio recording on the original soundtrack album, not a live version at all.

  • @UKpiano

But on the original soundtrack album, there's strings playing, around 0:36 they start... and they don't here? Actually I was also wondering why all those people with violins and stuff in the background aren't playing lol.

  • goosebumps

  • I reckon the video was cut off too early! there should be a pause and the sound of the silence when he finishes. I bet the audience were stunned.

  • Is it jus me or does he go wrong at the end in his left hand a little bit? : o

  • @Omfgwhtavid just you I think. Can't see it myself and i'm learning the end of this atm.

  • Sadly, 20 people watching this were born without ears.

Please give ten pounds a month, or whatever you can, to help people born without ears.

  • woooow, this is wonderful!

Piano is one of the most beautiful instruments for sure.

  • This is easily one of the most hauntingly beautiful pieces I've ever heard. I've headed back to this for years during times of both turmoil and peace. Kudos to Nyman.

  • Switch on the 1911 setting :)

  • 19 people are not music fans.

  • I believe if I try to play this piece in this speed my arm will ache so much... such a lovely and hard piece =)

  • he so reminds me of larry david.

awesome awesome piece too. but dont bother with belladonna remix, as suggested above.

    no.

  • amazing amazing amazing

  • Is it possible to have Stendhal's Syndrome for a piece of music? It's just so incredibly beautiful and powerful... it makes me wanna cry all my tears ç_ç

  • Its a nice and powerful song, with more broad and faster transitions than Glass' minimalism, though virtually no modulation, just one accidental. And I must say I hated the movie, it almost made me lost the taste for the song...

  • his fingers must be well long

  • Wonderful music and performance!!

  • you have nice music, i listen to these many time. thanks

  • Is he playing with # notes ?? Or he's just hitting them ? They are not in my sheet music, I don't understand...

  • This is SO beautiful!!! My elder brother has played this song several years ago and I think it's the most beautiful song he has ever played... Thanks for posting it! (pity that it isn't the whole song). I normally hate comments who say: '17 people are stupid' but I must say that I found it a miracle that people don't like this song. Everyone has their one taste of music, I think....

  • @DesiKroep11111111111 Miracle is definately the wrong term :P

  • @chillomaniac You are totally right! :D . My poor bad English! But I hope you all understood my meanings... Well spotted.

  • I wish it lasted longer

  • @onta1988 That's what she said.

  • che meraviglia.......

    e suonarla regala dei brividi.....

    è una composizione incredibile <3

  • if you love this, you MUST watch the video of "Let There Be Light "!!... it's a song by rock noir band BELLADONNA and MICHAEL NYMAN and it's based on this music from "The Piano". Michael Nyman himself plays piano on it... search for "belladonna nyman" here on youtube and you'll find it!! :-)

  • @astridxxy haver you posted this on EVERY Michael Nyman song lol? Hate to break it to you but her singing ruined his type song. Piano this lovely should not be spoiled with lyrics.

  • @astridxxy I agree with comment below. thanks for link - and i looked at it, but anything else with this piece just detracts from it. imo, anyway.

  • I love how he's listening to Justin Bieber on his iPod while playing this.

  • @AudiTy01 cool, time travelling ipods!

  • Ill put shubert over chopin any day...i fully disagree with "cheap repetitive patterns". It's quite obvious that you have missed the whole minimalist movement. However, i fully agree that whatever makes people count. That simplicity is so hard to achieve to be harshly put down by comparaison to the complicated and technically difficult Chopin. But hey, that's just an opinion! Cheers!

  • Cette chanson est tout simplement magnifique!

  • Merveilleuse chanson... l'Une des plus belles que je dejà entendu dans ma vie.

  • EPIIIIIC!

  • I'm in love with this song ♥

  • it's very good

  • Lovely old Scottish Strathspey tune from the eighteenth century, popularised by Niel Gow in 1800, and used for Robert Tannahill's "Gloomy Winter's Noo Awa'"

  • this reminds me at Ludovico Einaudi's "Quel che resta" from albun "i giorni"

  • *_________________________________*

  • so beautiful. it makes me want to cry

  • i totally don't get it, whats with people not playing the fifth page from leisure 5th grade? maybe it doesn't sound good, or more like everyone who's put a video on youtube has downloaded the sheet somewhere which doesn't include it. This is unfortunate because the actual piano for leisure 5th grade recording is too harsh. Any ideas anyone?

  • Beautiful

  • I´ll cry...

  • 13 people are most likely to do be deaf chavster heads

  • This song is amazing. :D

  • Yesterday, I had the pleasure to listen to the live premieres of works by Michael Nyman, "Chopin-Milton Songs". Łódź Poland 19.11.2010. Such feelings have been patiently waiting, the work of master of the genre

  • Why is he reading the music? He wrote the thing!! I love this though - far harder to play than it sounds...I guess this is probably true of a lot of his music.

  • @arripay this is a great one. you would be surprised actually, i have written a couple of compositions and written them out, and i still need the music to play them. so even if you wrote the piece, doesnt mean you automatically memorise it.

  • This song makes me die, painlessly.

  • I am thinking of trying to play this song. Maybe i will do it, but i wll never play it as good as Michael himself. I will give it a try, wish me luck ;)

  • @maatizz Try it, it's really easy to learn each hand separately. Just memorize the hands separately and then put it together slowly and speed it up as you get more comfortable, you can do it!

  • @maatizz Yeah, just give it a go. I found it hard at first but once you put it together slowly it becomes second nature. Then you can start trying to sound like Michael Nyman (Which I never will might I add)

  • is this Michael Nyman itself?

  • Piękne...<3

  • there's music, good music, and then there's things like this that are just in a league of their own, easily one of the most amazing pieces I've heard. it's beautiful

  • @crotful en verdad esta musica es bella

  • I love how there are no negative comments on this, its good we can all agree how awesome this beautiful the song is.

  • @zeroman186 I'll say I thoroughly disagree, since you bring it up. To me it sounds like it could have been written by a computer, and not a complex one. The "melody" sounds very random and the piece is based on cheap repetitive patterns. I did learn it in a couple days to impress this one chick who likes the song - and it worked :) but really, I would put chopin or Thelonious Monk in "a league of their own" sooner than this.

But whatever makes people feel things... that's what it comes down to.

  • @zeroman186 Sadly there are dislikes, I bet you $10 that the 23 people that disliked this have never seen the movie.

  • @zeroman186 eventually someone will come along and say he never leaves the key except to go to the relative major and it's not as good as bach.

  • @CheekyVimto08 yeah... and Tchaikovsky is vulgar, and lacks structure. Lol.

  • C'est magnifique <3

  • j'adore

  • Oleotectoide, this music is good. if you want to hear more music like his you should try searching Yiruma on youtube you won't regret it.

  • Actually, I can't describe what this music make me feel...so I won't try to say how great is Michael Nyman :3

  • @Oleotectoide this song is pretty nice. I thought it was very different. I don't know if you've heard of a composer named Yiruma. you should try searching up his piece "Kiss the Rain" you won't regret it.

  • @1Sedicar You should have suggested River Flows in You!

Anyway: I'm so glad I stumbled upon this piece of art. It's absolutely beautiful.

  • @XDXDXDXDXD0 its alot different from Yiruma's style

that's why I really like it, it's really something different.

  • I LOVE YOU

  • cette musique est si belle !!!

  • I love this song so much. <3

  • Perhaps I will try to practice this.

  • Just amazing !!!!!

  • Is this not an eighteenth century (or even older) Scottish folk tune, first written down in 1800 by Niel Gow, then called "Lord Balgonie's Delight"?

  • @Baudolino59 yes. Also used as the tune for a beautiful song by Robert Tannahill called Gloomy Winter's noo awa'. So it's over 200 years old, but this is a very nice arrangement.

  • I found the way he played wasnt fit to his sheet?

  • why its so short?;(

  • THIS is real music...

  • beautiful piece

  • FANTASTIC!!!!!!!

  • Love the glasses :P

  • oh god thank you for somwone like him

  • How can 12 people NOT like this MASTERPIECE?!

  • please send me it's music sheet!!!!

    please, please,please,please,please

  • Hard ? This is easy and my music teacher gave me the sheets not too long ago

  • @7thHackeR

I daresay he either gave you the pussy sheet music or you have been learning for 5ish years? This is a 5th Grade standard song putting it on par with... for example, Fur Elise. That doesn't mean it's hard or particularly easy, probably about average.

  • this song is brilliant, but its so hard to play...i feel so disgruntled!!! help! :S

  • @MDkid1 its not that hard if you take it apart. the song is actually 3 separate parts - the left hand harmony (bass clef), right hand harmony (trebel clef, notes pointing down), and right hand melody (trebel clef, notes pointing up). first, play only the LH and RH melody (notes pointing up) together and practice until you can play it fast. when you've mastered that, play just the right hand melody and harmony, no left hand. then put it all together slowly and you will be able to play it! :)

  • love it.....

    BUT...

First... you say this is the whole thing..then why is the ensemble standing there doing nothing?? and if you're going to say they're for another piece then what about the mp3 version i have of this which is about 3 mins......in the mp3 at the middle he he repeats the thing but with the strings ensemble in the backgroound

Second... at 0:51 the right hand sounds different that what he's doing.....is it just me?? just focus on the thing before you reply :)

  • @moomen2009 i have the sheet music and he is playing what it sounds like. the harmony with the left hand chords as well as the main melody is played with the right hand so it is doing a lot more than it looks like. wicked fun to play though :)

  • @x4yuf4nx well...the sheets i have are for this (watch?v=0Su8LXNS16A&feature=related)....and don't tell me this vid and that sound the same....

i looked everywhere and i found only one version of the sheets which are for this link,,,,if you have something else i'd be thankful if u give it to me :D

  • la verdad excelente tema y como toca el piano

  • @SpiritOfSolace

for this not being recorded in a recording studio it sounds A LOT like the original

  • coolest jew ever.

  • ive also got the dvd..he's in some church in spain..

  • Love it(L)!

  • This gives me shivers :D
