Nicely avoided, I hate it when cyclists follow too close, it’s the worst thing about club rides, I really don’t see the benefit of drafting that close being worth the risk, it isn’t like they were in a race!
@ponypruhest I guess so... the important thing is to stay calm. Clipping out has never been a problem, but in a stress situation where you're upside down in the water me be different. Maybe I should always carry a air cylinder. ;-)
Btw. I don't have a Flevobike roof because I don't like the looks of it. They may be practical, but I don't mind getting my head wet in the rain.
When I drove my Mango+ home from Groningen to Copenhagen I almost had a head on collision with a road racer because one of those in the rear broke out of the peloton to attack right before we parsed each other. I also escaped into the grass. How much damage to you think a Mango would have sustained if it would have been a direct hit?
@ponypruhest You (the cyclist) would probably be okay (unless he landed right on top of you). The bike...? I don't know. You probably could turn right around back to Groningen for some serious repairs. I've seen pictures of velomobiles that have been run over by cars and trucks and there's a lot of damage, but mostly to the bike... not the rider.
@ponypruhest Both men knew I was wearing a camera (aka, they mentioned it), so I don't see a big problem. We all get along and I'll try to track him down to send him a flower.
i thought he was bleeding but it was just his water bottle that had exploded...panic over ladies and gents!

@TheVexatiousLitigant
They probably need to practice to be able to ride so close in races

I dont think you were going to fast along there in general, but when you saw them approaching on a narrow cycleway I would have slowed down.

Maybe the fish eye lens on the camera makes the path looks slim? try to look at 0:12 + 0:13 when they pass each other before he pulls into the grass.

Ouch..! I would not want to be that guy.

I think your bike and your speeds are not appropriate for CYCLING PATH so narrow. But, it's only my opinion.

What would have happened if you ended up in the canal while clipped in the pedals? Would you be able to escape and survive?
What if you had the cover and/or flevobike roof on it?

I find it awful to watch his crash, maybe because I had my own share of accidents?
