Nobody can emulate Mayweather's style... NOBODY. You can try to make yourself look & sound like an expert all you want... but you're not. Imitating Mayweather's stance & being able to effectively use that style in a boxing ring are two completely different things. All of you couch experts need to shut the hell up - including the poster of this video.
Is there a difference between Everlast, Title, Reyes etc.? I use everlast gloves since that's the only thing available on the stores here but I'm curious if there is a difference in more than just name :)
@punktheman the difference is quality, each company makes a better one than the other, depending on if you want gloves for sparring (softer), gloves for bag work(better protection over the knuckles) or gloves for competition, never use 1 pair for all three you cant,my favorites are Fighting Sports tri tech for sparring, TITLE gel intense bag gloves for bag work, and for competition i would say Fighting sports or TITLE , Everlast doesnt make quality products anymore
The problem with the Philly Shell is that, every once in awhile, you'll get a shot you can't see or anticipate that will totally catch you by surprise and rock you hard. Watch Mayweather Vs. Mosley in Rd 2. Two great examples of Mosley coming in over the top with beautiful right hands that Mayweather didn't see and almost knocked him down. The best defense, IMO, is one that you do not have to use reactively. Keep both hands by your temples at all times, elbows tucked in, and chin down.
im a southpaw and does this usually work for body shots? i tried this today and it worked but the only problem was i kept getting hit on my arm and it turned all red and pretty bruised up
Floyd's D is actually an adaptation of the Philly Shell. The traditional Philly Shell doesn't protect the body as well as Floyd's stance was. BoxingFitFactory's video is NOT wrong however. It is the same principles. BTW you have a dope Philly Shell as a southpaw. I haven't seen a soutpaw use a Shell well. Judah tries but we all know what happens to him lol
let me just say im a southpaw and its about time someone made a video on Philly Shell Defense from a Southpaw stance. Very Very big well done for uploading this video, i prefer philly shell myself and its good to get tips and advice!
this one is kind of awkward if u do it the first time during a live sparring session in the ring with a good puncher. I feel like my right hand is obsolete in this defense as far as countering is concerned.
@rootiest well thats cause it takes time to learn or maybe its just not your thing. like Mike Tyson bobed and weaved and Mayweather rolls. your at your best with whatever you feel comfortable with. you know?
All i can say is its easier said then done, because the punches come faster, and you cant easily predict it, it takes ALOT of practice and work to get this style on lock
good video. easy to see exactly what you're doing, which isn't in a lot of videos on the philly shell. gonna try it out next time i spar...doubt it will work at first though, my instructor is too quick :P
ive seen floyd do the shoulder roll he of course fights orthodox so his left fist is by his belly button so he blocks right hooks to the bod with his left elbow if he had it tucked in like you do right hooks would get into his left rib cage. You look funny doing it cuz you doing it wrong floyd looks much better and floyd should know cuz he mastered it as you stated Mayweather shoulder roll. You would get with with left hooks to the body all day
@beenz08 by putting your fist by your belly button you will have your elbow hanging out which will leave yourself open to a body shot. It's called the "Philly Shell". You want to create a flat guard not elbows out that create openings. But if it works for you good luck. Thanks.
@BoxingFitFactory The principle you did is good, nothing with it. If somebody wants to hold his hand to his belly button than good for him also. Everybody is different, Everybody moves different, Everybody got different physics, mobility, speed ect. The basics are important..The rest you must find out yourself. So I think this video is GOOD>
@BoxingFitFactory I love the Philly shell style but I have somewhat long neck, so its hard for me to do a shoulder roll sometimes, but I can pull my head back farther thus making up for the slight problem with my shoulder roll.....do you think I should increase my shoulder size with weight lifting or will I be ok with what I am doing now?
it doesn't seem to make a problem with protecting my chin but I always feel like my temple is open to punches from southpaws that's why I am asking 4 help....
@beenz08 Boxing Fit Factory is right. Its what ive always been tought if your arm isnt flat around your weak areas your opponent is gonna find ways around your elbows haha
Gotta be fast. Gatti vs mayweather was a perfect example of who was Quick. Gatti got Raped from rolling with Floyds Right to the head then Right Body, right head, right body. Ouch LOL
@johnsynyster Yes he is and thats why this technique is mainly good against people who are also orthodox and is a 1-2-3 puncher. Mayweather had some trouble using this technique against southpaws in the past. Thats why his fight with manny is a big deal. He could not use that defense against manny cause manny is a BUSY southpaw. I wanna see that fight so bad.
i wana see this dude fight so bad...
