Even big commercial farms don't need 900 even 600 can doe the job and and can last just as long,

@MariusWytzeVanBelle that's true, for towing what you really want is loads and loads of torque. 900hp isn't necessary at all. They have have made it that powerful for novelty reasons, or it may just weigh an absolute fuck load and actually require that much hp to make it to 40mph lol

@davev8app Actually you don't understand how gearing works. Most eighteen wheelers don't produce that much hp. Most of the torque comes from the gearing. Having more tires means you don't have all the pull at four points. It takes more hp with four wheels than it does with eight. Plus you get more traction sort of the way a dozer works. It never went into production due to the economy being crap and people not needing that big a tractor.

It's the Detroit Diesel denomination; a 8V54 is a V8 cylinders with 54 cubic inches of displacement per cylinder (about 7liters in total). A Detroit Diesel 16V91 powers this tractor (16X91 /61 will give you the approximate displacement in liters). Google or search Youtube for Detroits, big and small :-)

About the "16 valve" reference, in fact Detroits were 2 strokers with exhaust valves only.
